Project Runway

How the heck did Michael and Marguerite make me start to actually like Claire? I just watched the most recent episode, and I spent most of the time wanting to punch them. She's not cheating, she's not copying you, shut up. Please.

Re: Project Runway

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
They definitely are playing it up for the drama but idk, if she actually went and copied the measurement of the pants she was wearing, I'd say this might count as cheating, but at the very least it's a sign that she lacks some skills she should have to be on that show.

It was extremely unprofessional and poor Claire looked so clueless. Amy Bonds was on Afterbuzz and talked a bit about it. (It's further in the critique portion of the runway.) The gist being because every one was talking about it in confessions and in the workroom, production knew, the contestants knew that production knew, but production wasn't going to step in until someone used their words like ADULTS and said something.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr9GIcUaXd4

And next week it gets worse. I'm of the opinion footage or it didn't happen.

Thank Goodness for the classiness of Tim Gunn in Claire's critique! Just Margrita got so focused on being validated that Claire was copying her that I don't think anything would have satisfied her. Then her hypocritical behavior from Model off Duty where she lied and threw her own model under the bus and then going "Oh, I wasn't raised that way" this week! The girl had immunity this week! I swear, it was the cash prize. Money changes people.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I mean, maybe she was "cheating" or whatever, idek what the issue is, but why the fuck didn't they go up to her face at any point instead of just bitching behind her back the entire time and waiting until she won to walk off? Even if Claire is shown to be in the wrong, I still think less of them for how it was handled.

I'm still not okay with that character in the prequel series I headcanoned as either gay or asexual, being confirmed as the biological father to the main series' protagonist. (Don't tell me he could have been bi: I saw him just not attracted to women at all.)
And more than that, I'm really really not okay with that cold, manipulative asshole of a character being sincerely in love at all in the first place and it doesn't matter if it was with a woman or not.
By the way, the protagonist's mother deserved much better than to fall in love with him.

Re: Fandom Rants

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Does the canon say he was in love with the character's biological mother? Or is the fact that he is the character's father all that's known. Love and attraction aren't necessary components to sex.

As to the first part, if canon hadn't said anything about his sexuality yet, your headcanon was just a headcanon. They aren't doing anything wrong by going a different route.

I agree with the second part, though. There are some jerk characters that then get portrayed in a romantic relationship, and I don't buy it, and it isn't fare to whoever they are partnered with.

Kidding. It does sort of fit, though.

Angela Thirkell

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Has anyone read Angela Thirkell's books? Any thoughts on them? I've been reading them all weekend and I'm having a hard time deciding how much I like them.

LastMan

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
My newest most favourite fandom finally got an English dub and an American release, yay!!
But almost nobody cares about it, uh.
And the only person involved enough to do weekly summaries/reports on the episodes keeps mixing up the characters' names and doesn't seem to grasp what happens on screen. Don't them actually pay attention to what they're watching? Bah!!
I'm so disappointed.

Killing Stalking

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
So, season 2 was kind of a let down. There was one really exciting and disturbing arc, but it lost a lot of momentum at the end and it felt like nothing really happened, largely because the protagonist, Bum, did fuck nothing the entire time.

But heaven forbid to criticize a lame duck protagonist like Yoon Bum to the fandom for making the story drag because he's not doing anything. Apparently that's offensive because this is such a "realistic" story of a mentally ill, sexually abused person being kidnapped by an abusive individual.

Like, it may be realistic. But stories absolutely have to have momentum, and that momentum absolutely has to come at least in part by the protagonist. If your protagonist spends the season finale doing absolutely nothing of note besides being scared and disturbed, then you don't really have a story. And Sangwoo, who at his best is a larger-than-life sociopath who is at least exciting to watch, can't even make up for that in terms of entertainment.

But Killing Stalking fans seem to still insist on treating this as a treatise on mental illness instead of an actual piece of fiction that is first and foremost storytelling.

I'm not in the fandom but I know people get a huge amount of shit for liking Killing Stalking. I can't help wondering if they're pushing that mental illness angle so it will look more "OK" to be enjoying sometimes that has important themes than to be enjoying a dark twisted piece of fiction. (Although there isn't a damn thing wrong with the latter in my opinion.) Of course you're in the fandom so you have a much better idea what's going on than I do.

Wonder Woman

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
This is petty, but I was annoyed by last night's Saturday Night Live Wonder Woman sketch with Gal Gadot that claimed none of the Amazons, including Diana, are lesbians.

I know it's just a comedy sketch, but it still feels like some kind of statement on canon, especially since Gal Gadot herself was saying those lines.

Re: Wonder Woman

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
But Diana's not a lesbian, that's canon. Did it say they're all straight, or just "not lesbians"?

Buahahaha. I'd peg some as bisexual, if we're gonna get picky. And maybe it was just me but I thought one of the amazons was at least in a relationship with Diana's teacher.

(Spoilers: The one that screamed her name and then ran when she was dying/dead. You know, the one).

Eh, it wasn't a great sketch, and all the performances were surprisingly dull and wooden. But I saw the sketch as mocking gay subtext and gaybaiting in superhero cinema. It's certainly a far cry to say that an SNL sketch mocking a movie is "some kind of statement on canon."

EDIT: Especially since Gadot is on the record as saying it's a reasonable interpretation that she's willing to perform if it's developed in future screenplays.

All I want is my favorite Lezhin yaoi comic to get an official English translation so I can buy it and read it legally. I feel so guilty about reading a fantranslation, that I even bought the Korean version of the comic to show my support. But I know the author has complained about her work being pirated (which is fair enough). The pirating wouldn't stop if it got translated, I'm sure the official translation would just end up on more sites, but I'd buy it again if I could support it! I'm just worried that she isn't motivated to let it be translated for this reason.
