It always ends up coming out wrong when I say "You know what? Slash doesn't do anything for me". Someone ALWAYS takes it the wrong way, thinks I'm being "close-minded" or "homophobic" or whatever, but NO. It's not that at all. I just personally DO NOT WANT TO READ about two guys getting busy. It's a personal preference, just like everyone out there who doesn't want to read het or yuri or non-con, etc. etc., for whatever reason. I have never understood that double-standard. (And I'm not saying all slash fans are that way, because I know that's not true, so please don't jump down my throat.)

But all that being said, I am tired, tired, tired of feeling like an outcast because slash is not my thing. I could care less what people write, or read, or get off on, whatever. I AM NOT HERE TO JUDGE. But when my FRIENDS are on my case because I have no desire to read slash? WTF is that about? I don't sit around telling them to read things that they have no interest in. And I don't see why it makes me "close-minded". I don't tell them they're being close-minded for only reading slash, so I wish they'd show me the same respect.

Anyway, long story long, OP, I'm pretty sure that I know exactly how you feel, and thank you for this secret. I'm glad to know I really am not the only one out there who just isn't into slash. ;)

Also when I join anti-yaoi comms, it doesnt mean I'm against YAOI itself. I'm just against the freakin rabid fangirls that go nuts. the AkuRoku ones in KH are the worst! They fuckin ruined KH for me!

I've stayed far, far away from the KH fandom because of all the rampant Kairi-hate. That's what ruined it for me. I like Kairi, and I don't understand why she has to get such a bad rap. YOU CAN STILL SLASH THE BOYS AND NOT MAKE HER OUT TO BE THE EVIL BITCHWHORE FROM HADES. Just sayin'. ;)

I am not against yaoi in the slightest. It's a free friggin' internet. DO WHAT YOU WANT, I RESPECT THAT. But all I want in return, is a little respect for the fact that it is NOT my thing. Quit making me feel like some kind of evil bitch who hates TEH GAY when that isn't even close to being true.

I still stay FAR from it because of the rabid yaoi fangirls. Kairi wasnt a favorite of mine but she wasnt a bitch either (Damn Tifa was worse. I hated her but yeah). It's just...ARGH!

What bothers me more are all the crazy slash fen who think there junk is canon.... ;;>.> It almost never is. I think shipping itself has ruined most of Fandom; everything is about romance and sex. People invest too much time into what sex lives the characters have.

I agree with that too. I've seen too many reviews on fics and the like that have said something along the lines of "Oh, this is great but you know such-and-such character is actually gay, right?" (See icon for example of such a character.) And I'm just like, HUH? WHEN DID THEY SAY THAT? You point me out the moment IN CANON that they said that, and I'll concede the point to you. But really? Sexualities are RARELY blatantly stated in canon (at least, in the ones I'm familiar with), so to say that they are CANONICALLY GAY is ridiculous. So is saying that they're canonically straight for that matter.

Also? If I see a person in canon involved in a hetero-relationship, I'm going to assume that they are straight. Or at the very least bi. It's a SAFE ASSUMPTION. I also HATE it when the female half of such a pairing is beaten down by the fans, who say she's evil and a bitch or a slut or whatever ... all because the guy who is part of their slash-ship LIKES her? THAT IS RIDICULOUS.

All I'm saying is ... sometimes guys like girls. And ONLY GIRLS. Sometimes it happens. It's how we all got here, for the most part, isn't it?

I know, I know. I mean, I'm pretttttty sure with everything that went down in the game, and things that various NPCs remark about that he's a straight-arrow. But I don't want to start a whole lot of wank about it. But yeah, basically I think he's about as straight as it gets. ;)

Say whaaat? Balthier...is really pretty much...straight...but I still ship him with Vaan...and Ashe...and Penelo...come on there's sexual tension all over the place, and since there is so little actual romance you just sort of jump on the hints and those hints are hilarious.

This is making me "nostalgic" for the "old days" of Trigun fandom... oy, the double standards...

There were at least a few people (that I knew of) that claimed that Vash/Wolfwood was a canon couple, but only one person I knew that was very forceful about it, but I'd say that all of them were pretty condescending toward het shippers and gen fans if you encountered them. (Or maybe they just struck *me* that way?) Not that there weren't condescending het shippers, either...

And some of the claims for "how it was canon" bordered on the ridiculous, really. Then, you'd get yelled at if you expressed a thought such as "Well, I don't think they're canon unless I see a declairation of such or until they kiss in a panel of the official manga."

Oh, and I've been called homophobic for personally thinking/writing/roleplaying Vash the Stampede as straight. Vash - whose only been seen flirting with women and who outright stated once, in the anime "I don't like sleeping with men."

And of course, the female most of the het shippers liked pairing him up with was declaired a bad partner for him on the grounds that she was "abusive" when, well... Wolfwood's not only hit him, but has drawn a gun on him and has, in both the anime and manga thought about killing him.

Thankfully, Trigun fandom has calmed down a great deal since the "old days." Never played the Final Fantasy games, so I don't know too much about their fandoms, but it looks like there's a lot of drama there, eh?

I've gotten more or less attacked for making deathtoslash a few times. :'D I hate slash, and I made the community for myself and others who hate it ... and if people don't agree, then they can stay away. Easy as that! It's not like bitching at me about it is gonna convert me into a fiend for buttsex between male characters.

It's exactly as you said — there's one hell of a double standard when it comes to this. Slash fans get pissed because het fans don't wanna hear about slash, but then they get all pissy when we talk about het. And they call us close-minded, lol. Way to be, fuckwits. :|d

We have dueling 'ships it looks like. ;) But hey, at least it's not the two guys TOGETHER. ;) You know how hard it is to find a good Seifer/Rinoa or Squall/Rinoa fic any more? (Apparently the boys like each other better now. ;p)

I just don't get the double standard AT ALL. Fine, you don't like reading about het, FINE. I WON'T MAKE YOU. But stop, for the love of all that is good and holy, STOP telling me why you think Squall/Seifer or Cloud/Zack is OMG SO MUCH BETTER. That's your opinion, it is NOT MINE, and no matter how many times you rant about it, you're not going to magically change my mind and make me think that ANY ONE OF THOSE GUYS should really be slashed instead of hetted (lol new word!). It's just not happening.

MINE'S BETTER OMG DETH 2 U kidding. :( I have a fantastic record of not getting along with Squall/Rinoa fans, but that's only because they can't see my side of things. DSFHSDJK BUT LOL THIS IS NOT THE SUBJECT RIGHT NOW. It really is hard to find Seifer/Rinoa fic — even more so than usual; I mean, fuck, I'm the author of most of them ._. — because Seifer's obviously too busy banging Squall or Zell to pay attention to a beautiful girl like Rinoa. :')

I know, right? :( I mean, the same thing happens in het, too, really! And belieeeeeve me, I'd love to convert everyone to Seifer/Rinoa — or at least make them appreciate it — but... it's hard. And I try not to force it on people (though considering my ambitious attitude, it undoubtedly comes across as such XD). I guess if they don't like it, they don't like it. This General can't win that one, but she can go and battle her Seifer/Rinoa plotbunnies! \o/

But that said ... bawww, why can't everyone just play nice? Even if they're boiling with rage underneath it all? :D;

I understand why with a title "deathtoslash", seriously when you make things like that, you are creating future wank. Instead of making anti-slash communities, why not general fic communities or het communities. Save you a lot of drama down the road. Negative wording like that will attract negative attention.

And in b4 anything else, I would say the same about any anti- community. Wording are important, people!

I think gratuitous slash fiction is annoying in the way that dudes thinking lesbianism is hot is annoying. And I actually think it's demeaning to homosexuals. That being said, I don't have a problem when it's done as a joke to lampoon the whole "slash culture" or when there is obvious gay subtext between two characters.

I think it's demeaning to homosexuals, too. :/ It makes me believe that slashers are, indeed, a tad bit homophobic (or homo-ignorant may be more accurate) themselves. ...Yet, ironically, they give het fans flack for being "homophobic".

I just hate that it's EVERYWHERE, you know? In EVERY FUCKING FANDOM I join, it's there, and not just there, but dominant. Death Note? Light/L out the wazoo. Harry Potter? Remus/Sirius and Harry/Draco in every nook and cranny. EVERYWHERE. And I hate that because I'm het fan, I'm automatically branded as some saccharine girly-girl. NO! God! I'm just so tired of there being no good fic and no fellow fans!

Aw, thank you! I'm actually glad to see everyone here. It makes me feel like, "hey, I'm not the last het-fan in the world!" :D

But seriously, WHY is it that it's so goddamn hard to find fic written about the guys liking the girls??? This is all I'm asking for. It's not a difficult request. (Hell, I wouldn't have even thought it a STRANGE request, but apparently ...)

So it's not just my main fandoms that have the problem either, I don't know if I'm relieved to hear that or frightened. LOL WHERE IS ALL THE HET?!

I understand the Death Note fandom (and not surprising since there are two major female characters, one is not easy to like and the other shows up late in the game and the other three are minor characters). But the HP fandom? If anything, I hear far more wank on their hetero pairings than anything else from there...

But that's something you can't help. You can't expect people to like the same stuff as you do and it's up to you make stuff instead complaining about it.

I know that what I'm saying isn't going change anyone's mind and I don't want to "help" anything. I'm just voicing my opinion.

You're sure it's not the generalisation of slash/yaoi fans as frothing maniacs that always hate all female characters and make them out to be mosters, accusations of rabidness in every discussion about an pairing, the declarations of it automatically is more OOC than any het coupling, or using words like "gratiutous", "degrading", or "cheapening" that tends to upset fans a bit?

I don't know how you usually behave when talking about slash/yaoi of course. These are just examples I've seen in other discussions.
