116. I understand the Harry Potter one and the Jrock one, but what's wrong with people saying they don't like anime, even though they used to? Loads of people grow out of their hobbies as they age, and there's nothing wrong with just not liking anime. :/

I've heard this before and seen it on F!S but haven't experienced it in my own fandoms (HP and Lost). There are lots of us over there (I'll be 38 soon). I mean, one of my best friends in the Lost fandom is young enough to be my daughter. Maybe it's only certain fandoms? Don't feel bad...we ALL deserve to have fun and love what we love.

::hugs::

I must be the only person on the planet who genuinely hates this movie. I understand why I'm supposed to like it, but I don't.

Oh well. I lose.

30 here, and although I am mostly a lurker in a lot of fandoms and do not go around declaring "HEY LOOK AT ME I'M OLD!" unless someone actually asks me my age (which no one has really done), I feel that knowing one's age does to a certain extent create a mental barrier that takes a little time to get past (unless said fandom people have gotten used to interacting with you to know it doesn't matter). Every one takes their social cues from somewhere, and age - whether one admits it or not, does play a part, and it's not always in regards to discrimination towards older people, since there are young fans who may feel intimidated by older fans as well. It swings both ways, really.

Of course, I personally believe that if one doesn't flaunt one's age as a guage of the level of one's EQ and IQ, there will still be fandom friends out there older and younger worth interacting with. Grant your young peers the same respect as peers in your age group, and most will return the favour, I believe. :)

p.s: I'm lurking somewhere in code geass fandom too, if pic is supposedly related. Oh hai there, fellow peer. XD

106. Just the idea of a Dragonball live action movie makes me want to cry. I'd watch it for the "it's so fail it's win" lulz and prep for homebrew MST3000 material.

112. Are you sure they are dating someone else? Do they feel weird with female on female crushes and all that? Also, have you gotten to know each other OOC and not just IC? If it's just IC then your feelings could be about the character, or mixed in. If you can be open with each other that means there's a lot of trust, which is a good thing.

Only way to find out is to ask before you take your feelings further.

122. I'm an American and I'm not too crazy about American culture, but it's still wrong that others want to rag on you about it. You have a right to national pride. I think you should restate your feelings openly on your journal with all the reasons why you like being an American and you shouldn't have to hide it.

If someone wants to contend that, just tell them it's great to have national pride (including their pride about their own culture) and you aren't dismissing other nations--each nation has good qualities about them. It shouldn't be a contest and you shouldn't have to be embarrassed.

Sometimes people blindly follow other people's opinions. Once you challenge them and they don't have solid reasons to support their claims, at times they can be made to see the light. XD And if you can't convince them, at least settle on neutral ground.

146. I am sort of glad you posted this, at the same time I don't completely agree. I DO believe people should find their own style, but when someone is young and new I think most people's first attempts come down to emulating someone else's style. Age and experience is a factor.

If they are serious about art eventually they'll go to school and be forced to learn some basic anatomy, grow out of imitation and develop their own style from then on.

People who copy other styles and rely on tracing all the time irk me something bad. And you're right, when it gets to be really popular, it just makes the irksome into RAAAGE.

153. Heh, keep hoping.

156. Welcome to the world of fanart, where at least 50% of the time it's a rip-off of a rip-off. There isn't much that can be done about it but to expose them until they start being honest about it.

Maybe we can start a revolution. :o

I intended to keep my fingers crossed until the last moment, but then I saw the poster you used as a base... I even did a google check to see that it is real...

Muten Roshi DOES NOT EVEN HAVE A FREAKING BEARD???

Fuck.

I stopped what I was doing and listened to this song, since I'd been in a similar situation as you...
That song was gorgeous :'D
Thank you for sharing ♥

I hope it does the same thing for me as it did for you... c:

Seconded ._. I really liked their dynamic in the musical--where they obviously love each other a lot but they have their fights like any couple does, and the progression of that was amazing to watch--and then her death was so sudden. I can't help but feel like Sondheim was trying to prove a point about something along the lines of 'death is unpredictable' or something like that so make sure you tell people you love them or something, idk. But none of the less, it felt unnecessary.

145. Shiki/Beat was the first ship I picked up on in the game. Which makes absolutely /no sense at all/. Why, self, why.

(that said if you have any fic or art I'd enjoy a link)

156. Agreed. It really is scary how identical each picture is, like to the most minute details, and I'm the type who gets frustrated with every picture she draws coming out similiar >

[identity profile] anesidorian.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
106. ... huh?! What?! Really?! .___.;;

147. I kinda hate that word, just because it sounds stupid.

156

(Anonymous) 2008-07-05 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
omg so shiny desu @w@

[identity profile] elfinpiper.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
107. Agreed.

108. Books 6 and some parts of 7 were rather lackluster. I think Deathly Hallows is worth the read though. As long as you skip the epilogue. >.<

116. Everyone has opinions. “Hate” is just such a strong word, though… I wish people would avoid it.

123. It is not the least bit pathetic. Books/movies/TV shows/comics, etc. – they aren’t just for entertainment. (Well, some of them are.) The purpose of fiction is to help people make sense of their lives in an interesting way. Not everyone can stomach the long blocks of dialogue-less text in nonfiction books. If you learn something from any kind of written medium, more power to you. That’s what it’s INTENDED for. Even something as infused in pop culture as Lucky Star.

People who think fiction is just for giggles really aren’t using their imagination.

133. I think it makes you an open person with a lot of unique insights to give to the younger fans.

134, 139.

[identity profile] akaiouja-fic.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
134. You missed something. It may have been the point.
139. Oh dear God. Order of the Stick. I just flailed. Seriously. I L U whoever you are!!!
155. Two Order of the Stick secrets? Oh wow. That character is pretty gender non-specific though...

Top Hat FTW!

[identity profile] arwydd.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
106 - And yet I cannot wait. XD

114 - Sa-weet, Fight Club! And yes, that scene was just so intense that it ended up being fucking hot.

152 - Gundam women can kick ass and take names, make no mistake about it!

156 - Wow, that's creepy. And after seeing your secret, I totally agree (although I don't know the artist).

(Anonymous) 2008-07-06 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
154. so...in essence, you want the author to write what YOU want and not what THEY want?

[identity profile] singing-sparrow.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
101. Ok, you have no soul...
131. Oh. My. God. WE HAVE THE SAME BRAIN!!!! Since you've got Astaire, can I have Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor? I have a thing for dancing men.
153. That, my dear, would be fucking ILL. However, DT as he is, is cute, but a little too... breakable to be Bond. He'd have to bulk WAY up. And the thought of a muscle-y Tennant makes me lose my breath.

108

[identity profile] lokichan2004.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
I did the same. I only bought the book so I could read Snape's death scene.

I completely agree.

ZEE GERMANS. ♥

If I ever read/wrote RPS, it would be those boys. Because OMG. (Double hurrah for having Oliver Khan in thar. ♥)

123

[identity profile] asmaria.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
NO. IT ISN'T PATHETIC.

I'll tell you why.

Most of the authors who tell these stories want to communicate something in some way. If they have affected your life, then they have made their lives worthwhile. You're not pathetic. You're someone who has the brains to see what's in front of them and act on it, making you a much more well rounded individual than many can say for themselves.

Hang in there, and don't doubt who you are. *hugs*

re: 129 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-07-06 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she does, but she learns from her mistakes in a solo afterwards (as someone else said) and really grows as a character, which is why it bothers me that she immediately dies afterwards, and under really trivial circumstances.

Re: 129 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-07-06 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoops - that was supposed to be in response to [livejournal.com profile] penguinfaery. How did that happen?

[identity profile] akai_senshi.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
106. I think so too.
116. Agreed. I just got put off of HP and J-rock because of their fandoms of crazy…
122. AMEN. I speak quite a few languages, and I’m involved in Spanish and Japanese-language fandoms. They each have their flaws, but you do get perspective on some things in English-speaking fandom…
123. No, it’s not pathetic at all!
133. Hey, I’m 26. I’m probably going to be involved in some sort of fandom for the rest of my life, partially because I plan on going into translation or being a professor. So don’t feel so bad! *hugs*
143. Indeed.
152. You. Are. Awesome.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Some of the secrets could have been resolved by simply asking the person you have a beef with. Hell, someone posted a secret here that bashed my favorite character and called me wanky for liking him. I felt bad that I had to make a response secret to clear my name, and to clear up WHY I liked him (he reminds me of me), when the secret-maker just could have ASKED me why I liked a character s/he hated in the first place!
