yes! I especially hate it in romance stories, though. Like, it's not a happy ending if the woman who didn't want kids is knocked up!! Blagh.

See, that doesn't bother me much. I'm more talking about, like, a 40 years old, straight laced business man dressed like the most stereotypical teenager who just stumbled out of their first pride parade.

Oh, it's not a fic, I was paraphrasing someone's headcanon from some Star Trek confession blog or other. Also, I don't think they knew what half the labels they were using meant.

Louisa May Alcott was kind of plain to look at and didn't much care for fashion. Her hobbies included running and trying to get women to vote, and had no sexual interest in men. She received a lot of criticism from her peers about being unladylike. Honestly, I think some of this is just what "not like the other girls" looked like in the late 1800s.

Re: What fictional child character would you want to adopt?

I don't want kids, even by adoption, but I would totally adopt Chiyo from Azumanga Daioh.

Honestly, when I was listening to Greg Sistero reading the audiobook of The Disaster Artist, I got the impression Greg was mostly around Tommy Wiseau because he was rich and not for any reasons of fondness. But I haven’t listened to the whole thing, and I don’t know their relationship these days.

Would soaking in a hot bath work the same way hot compresses do? Also, if it doesn’t come to a head before Monday, skipping work for the doctor sounds like a good idea, if only because spending half an hour in a work bathroom with the first aid kit cleaning it if/when it pops would be awful. Good luck.

Oh god, even reading this, I got furious. That is the worst. Especially on the dogpiling thing. Seriously, dogpiling and bullying is NEVER OKAY. Seriously, I bet these same people whine about how discriminated and bullied they are for being demisexual genderqueer turtle otherkin with self-diagnosed aspergers or whatever else is the current mental health trend of the week for tumblr users. The casual "kill yourself" stuff is the grossest, too. I remember seeing this crap back on popular LJ communities, and it's amazing even as fandom gets more social-justice oriented, it gets more self-righteously toxic.

I've never used it but it seems to work for a lot of people.

I punched a plate glass window in my 20s (I was dumb). I didn't have lasting nerve damage but still have serious scars.

Re: Spoilers I think, also a little off topic

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever you saw wasn't "real" spoilers, because she's not a lesbian in show canon, nor has there been any such foreshadowing to date.

I almost always drop a series once a baby becomes involved. If It wasn't part of the original plot (like Gilmore Girls or something) then I'm just not hfi. I have zero interest in kids, nor have I ever had any, and I never will.

Can I ask how old they are supposed to be? Cause they both look the same age

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Are you new to fandom? "I hate this trope because XYZ" is a very ordinary type of opinion to have and it's hardly an example of getting excessively worked up about something.

Almost 40, a bit socially awkward around men, still a virgin, plus health issues that even my doctor has said getting pregnant would be a risk now, it's not likely for me now.

I also spent some time about 10-12 years ago occasionally poking around the LJ Childfree comms, which made me feel it's okay to not have children. I have a lot of thoughts on how society may try to interfere in how I would want to raise a child anyway and feel I am in no position to protect a child from the sort of interference that I believe is harmful while the rest of society thinks is "good".

I see no evidence that OP is upset because their life doesn't resemble a TV show. I see no evidence that OP is expecting everyone else to change. I do see evidence of someone (hint: you) being super weird and interpreting a run of the mill opinion as being somehow crazy over the top?

This is FANDOMsecrets. People come here to post and discuss their opinions about various fandom-related subjects. Sometimes peoples' opinions are negative. It doesn't mean they're failing to take "responsibility for [their] own emotions" and honestly, that accusation is so bizarre I'm a little worried for you.

Wow that's ridiculous.

DA, but probably not, 'cause you want the compresses to be a.) as hot as you can stand them (not good for full-body baths) and b.) applied with a bit of pressure. So it is in the end easier just to lie on the unaffected side and keep switching them out. Annoying, but the best option.

Re: Movie Club Questions!

I went into the movie opposed to the death penalty and came out of it the same way.

I would definitely recommend this film to other people.

What really struck me about the movie is that Herzog did not choose a case where there was a lot of debate about whether the person was guilty, and he didn't shy away from the fact that he committed a horrible crime. It wasn't about feeling bad for this person or feeling that he was treated unfairly so much as about feeling whether anyone at all deserves the death penalty.

I think the moment that got to me the most was the father talking about how he ended up handcuffed together with his son. Despite what I said above about it not being about sympathy it did give me sympathy for the father, who was someone I did not expect to feel sympathy for.

Same with Gillian Anderson on The X-Files.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying the writers didn't try to support/justify the change, but it's still an example of a rare female character explicitly saying she didn't want kids, then having them anyway because audience expectations; as opposed to it being acceptable to depict a young, successful, wilfully childless couple.

Trump's america have become reactionary(cheering, colosseum) style govern.
