Re: How likely do you think it is that your OTP will become canon?

None, obviously. Once you ship crack there's no point in going back.

So... you're saying that Alan Rickman played Snape using gestures, etc. that pegged you as autistic?

Genuinely curious, not trying to be a dick. Just trying to figure out where this interpretation comes from.

Suikoden III features the Lizard Clan, which while aggressive compared to the Chishan pacifists and the Ducks, are one of the Six Clans of the Grasslands and 4 Lizards are among the Stars of Destiny you recruit to your side. Also Peggi is the most hilarious blacksmith ever.

Fucking work.

The sad part is, there's nothing particularly awful. But the atmosphere has really changed over the last year, and I feel like I have no place there anymore. Like I'm a fucking alien who's just shitting on everyone else's good vibe.

It pisses me off because maybe I really did do it to myself. I'm just so fucking tired of that place now. But I don't know where to go. I don't want to fall into another shit place and the same shit patterns, and I'm too old to realistically start something new that I can financially support myself with.

I can think of one option but I'm not sure my boss would go for it, and I'm not sure I could present it in a way that makes me out to be an extermination-deserving asshole. Also, there's no guarantee it would solve things in the long run.

Sorry, I know I'm being dramatic as fuck but I needed to rant.

Some of mine are, due to me enjoying canon-ships as well as non-canon, but for most of my non-canon ones I'd say very unlikely as they're mostly f/f or m/m and in media that is absolutely never going to do that.

Either way I don't really care because most of my OTP's are close friends in canon anyway so it's not like there isn't a relationship at all.

I can only speak for myself, but my interest in Tom was waning a bit before hand and the Taylor Swift disaster was the nail in the coffin for me. I've never liked her music (the best TS song is the Postmodern Jukebox cover of Shake It Off, don't @ me losers!) and as a person she's just always rubbed me the wrong way.

But they broke up and Ragnarok was great, so I'm back on my TH bullshit again!

Re: Random pain/weird symptoms

Can you go to a doctor? Sore joints, etc. are no fun, and it does sound symptomatic of something. Get to a clinic if you can, but in the meantime, does ibuprofen or something help the joint pain?

Re: What food did you used to love but now hate?

[personal profile] nightscale 2018-02-06 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Not hate but I've completely gone off beef, just every time I've tried eating it in the last few years I've been so unimpressed and disappointed. It just tastes meh.

Oh, hell yes. Plus the bath conversations where the lizards get annoyed with how people have difficulty telling them apart.

I think it's not impossible, but I think it's pretty unlikely. I ship them like burning, though. I don't care. (It doesn't help that my first serious, major OTP was Mulder/Scully which did, eventually, EVENTUALLY, become canon, so now I can't help but think that if I just wait the better part of a decade it can happen.)

Filming/character portrayals that are uncomfortable or offensive

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Not characters you hate, but the way a character is portrayed (whether through their narrative, or even how they are filmed, i.e. too many unnecessary ass shots). Any out there that really bothered you?

And again, just because we might see more of those two characters interacting, doesn't automatically mean they'll be screwing.

But dangerous flirting? Sure.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

It excuses being an asshole and I feel like it also contributes to stigma, since it basically links being a dick to neurodivergence. It's honestly surprising to me that more autistic people aren't angry about it.

Re: How likely do you think it is that your OTP will become canon?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
There's zero chance my OTP will become canon and I'm okay with that because sometimes I ship them platonically and other times romantically. They're already really close friends in canon and that's enough for me.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I....could see it, I guess. At the very least I've definitely heard way more outlandish headcanons for Snape!

My friend gets his figures from RightStuf and hasn't had any problems with them.

Re: How likely do you think it is that your OTP will become canon?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Very unlikely. But I still ship the hell out of them.

Re: How likely do you think it is that your OTP will become canon?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
My biggest OTP did become canon, and there's every chance that it could happen again.

Honestly, the bigger difficulty isn't that my OTP wouldn't become canon, it's that I don't find a lot of things I ship enough to call it an OTP.

Re: 16 is the age of consent in Indiana

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
The minimum marriageable ages aren't just "old laws that no one ever bothered to change," because girls in their early teens in the US are being legally married off to adult men even today. If they had just been overlooked, then the minute a 13-year-old was taken to the courthouse to get a marriage license, someone would step in and go, "now wait a second, this is antiquated and we should get to updating it."

But they don't. Because it's still acceptable here to think of post-menarche girls as ready for marriage and breeding, and even to think of marrying them off as soon as possible as the best thing that can be done for them. Why do you think the scion of the Robertson clan got away with saying 15 is the best age to marry a girl off? Why do you think so many Christians and conservatives were perfectly fine with Roy Moore allegedly going after a 14-year-old?

In general, Americans (whether they'll admit it or not) think it's wrong for a girl who's unmarried and a minor to have sex because she's UNMARRIED, not because she's a minor. A 30-year-old fucking a kid is perfectly fine so long as he's done the "proper" thing and wed her.

That depends. Are you an adult who fucks sixteen-year-olds?

(I just saw an article in which Quentin Tarantino claimed that what Roman Polanski did wasn’t rape because the drugged thirteen-year-old was asking for it. I’m not in the best of moods right now.)

Oh wow that's awful, jesus.

that last bit sounds like something from a TV show, like that level of unlucky. Bleh, I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Stranger Things spoilers

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Stranger Things, but something felt a little... off and uncomfortable with how Will is being portrayed. Like, in a way that seems gross in a bad way.

I just finished the second season, and Will being a victim again was, well, whatever. Fine. But all those scenes with him tied up and only wearing a flimsy short hospital gown, and what felt like several shots creeping up his bare legs were pretty unnecessary. Why exactly couldn't they have put pants on that kid, at least when they got back from the hospital (especially when they were allegedly trying to "burn out the demon" - they didn't think to put some damn clothes on him, and instead turn up radiators to make him super sweaty and hardly dressed?

This alone probably wouldn't have put off any warning bells for me. But earlier in the season, Will is describing what happened when he got possessed, and he says something like, "I felt it, everywhere", stress on the last word, in a way that felt deliberately to me like a metaphor for sex abuse. Especially since we basically saw a scene of the demon "entering" him, while only his face, made this line uncomfortable. I mean, demon possessions as sexual abuse metaphors are a dime a dozen so whatever. But in the first season, Will is evidently used by the monster to incubate a baby, so he was essentially impregnated and held captive.

There's been an ongoing theme of Will, a prepubescent boy, getting weirdly sexualized through his constant victimization. While I can deal with subtle hints and even appreciate the dark and subtle metaphors approached from a narrative standpoint, those sweaty pantsless bondage scenes really grossed me out.

Wouldn't dragons count? There are lots of good dragons!

(Anonymous) 2018-02-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I remember having a lot of sympathy for Laura and her feelings about Mary being too perfect and favored by adults, which is weird because I don't have a sister and my younger brother was never the golden child (he turned out just fine, btw).

Sapporo has a Christmas market?!?! That sounds so lovely! I lived in Tokyo for a few years but don't remember anything like that. Lots of "illumination" displays, but not enough mulled wine!
