I would like to see what was going on with the Harappan civilization of the Indus Valley. If you're going to leave behind writing that no one can read, don't be surprised if time travelers show up to see what you were doing.

I would go see the original casts of a lot of Broadway/West End shows, and maybe some plays and operas. Definitely to see some original Shakespeare and Moliere plays. Lots of rock concerts. I’d film everything. And since you didn’t say anything about bringing stuff back, I’d gather seeds and cuttings from currently-extinct plants and tissue samples from extinct animals and give them to publicly-funded research labs working to combat extinction.

God so many places. I think I'd like to visit Egypt around the time all the cool shit was happening. I think I'd quite like to go get drunk with some vikings. Renaissance Italy for the women. 1930's / 40's Hollywood, again for the women. Hang about around the Kennedy assassination, see if I can spot anything wonky on the grassy knoll. I'd like to go see some original Wagner. Head back and see what the dinosaurs really looked like. Head forward to the Three Kingdoms period, and see of Cao Cao was really such a knob head. Back to England and see if Robin Hood was a real bloke and what he was really like. probably more stuff along the the lines of "What was Blank really like"

Outside of just quenching some curiosities, I think I'd do a tour of great storytellers. History is all well and good, but it's the myths that make a time amd place romantic. I'd want to hear the myths and folk tales and that sort of thing first hand.

#1 would definitely be fin de siecle Vienna. Just such an intensely interesting and productive time and an interesting society to observe and a lot of beauty and aesthetic stuff and all of that. Pre-War Europe in general would be amazing to see, especially Eastern and Southern Europe, but Vienna would be top of the list.

Outside of that, definitely a lot of ancient civilizations - there's so little we know about what those societies were really like on a day to day basis. It'd be cool to go to, like, very late/early 19th century England and France and see the proto-Romantics and the french revolutionaries and all that stuff. And also I'd like to meet Napoleon. Maybe 1980s Hong Kong / Japan, see those financial bubbles.

Probably Regency England because I'd like to see what it was really like. Don't get me wrong, there were a load of aspects that sucked and I don't think I'd enjoy myself there for very long, but it might be fun to see it. (As long as I could get into fancy parties at least.)

What are some creepy moments you've had, either possibly paranormal or sadly "normal" but dangerous? What about definite close calls?

I've had a few.

The first one that comes to mind is in college. My Mom dropped me off and said there was a guy following me. He kept looking at her in a weird way, then kept following me. I had my back to him, so I was oblivious. I did notice her car circling around and wonder why she'd done a detour. She told me about it later.

What made my mom stop following the guy was that a girl came up to me, and we made small talk as we walked to the next building. My mom said as soon as the girl started walking with me, the guy hurried off. The interesting thing is that from the angle the girl came, she had to have seen him, which makes me wonder if that's why she started walking with me. It strikes me as a LITTLE odd that she didn't say anything, but maybe she didn't want to freak me out?

OTOH, I do wish she had said something or that my Mom had texted me so I could've reported it to campus police. :/ Then again, if I'd known a guy was following me, I probably wouldn't have left my classroom for the rest of the day...

I had an Uber driver with a messy car. Exceedingly messy. Including brown stains I hoped were chocolate, and red stains I was... terrified were blood. I've never run into my house so fast before.

Fortunately I've never had anything like that happen with Uber since.

When I was 16 there was an older man who did nothing but stare at me on the bus, and when I got off a stop early because it was so crowded he followed after me. Thankfully mobile phones were a thing so I called my friend who lived nearby as I walked and got her to meet me at the stop I would have gotten off at and we went the long way round to her house to hopefully loose him.

He did thankfully give up when we got to the school on the main road and we went to hers to hide basically, her mum drove me back home when she got in from work because when we told her what happened she wouldn't let me go home alone. Which looking back I appreciate a lot.

That's probably my scariest real-world experience with creeps.

I've had some internet stalkers as well on WoW, including a guy who somehow figured out all my alts names despite me never telling him them(and this was before b-net was a thing so fuck knows how he figured it out). Plus the usual 'I heard you speak once on voice-chat and now I'm gonna be a creep to you in /whisper until I leave the guild', thankfully my current guild is a lot tougher on those types and we got rid of one who was harassing another girl in the guild last year.

Anything I thought was paranormal as a kid just turns out was sleep paralysis that I've had my whole life and only found out in the last 5 years that I get it.

I had a guy follow me a couple blocks until I was nearly home, who wouldn’t leave until I gave him a hug. He kept asking where I lived, so I walked around the block until he was out of sight, then sprinted and went in my yard through the alley gate.

Once I was on vacation and didn’t have a working phone. I was walking with bags of groceries and a guy walked up, grabbed my boobs, squeezed them, and walked off grinning while I stood in shock and then started screaming every expletive and insult I could think of. There was no one else around if he’d done worse.

Years ago, one of my neighbors stopped me to ask if I liked older men; I was maybe 16 and he was in his 40s. More recently I was dog-sitting and he saw me walking the dog and said “I’m gonna get a dog and teach it to hunt n****rs.” He’s white, but his niece and nephew aren’t. :-(
