Same, though it's people being embarrassed over their ~young selves that annoys me a bit more.

Lack of subs is a big problem with me as well. And I don't think this comes off as demanding or xenophobic. It's just not everyone speaks every language (well nobody does since there's literally thousands of languages) and the people who subtitle and caption (it's a problem there too) fail to realize that.

Man. That opinion really, really, really sucks.

I just find it really hard to believe you're genuinely committed to Lyndon Johnson's legacy. I just don't really believe you. Because why would you be that committed to defending his legacy that you would be actively spiteful about it several years after whatever news story came out, and also because Lyndon Johnson actually did suck. I didn't even see Wrinkle In Time, it doesn't look great, but this is a real bad reason to be spiteful and shitty about it.

I generally assume that this is an intentional decision either way, and that if they don't subtitle something, it's because they wanted to leave it unsubtitled for creative reasons, not just out of laziness.

I haven't seen the show so I really genuinely can't say. But the outfit is pretty sexualized, and the promos I've seen certainly don't seem like they're going out of their way to avoid objectifying her, so I'm just curious where you're coming from, as someone who presumably watches the show, that she wouldn't be an example of male gaze.

I mean, male gaze doesn't subsume every aspect of a character - you can have well-written, good characters who are also at the same time depicted in gaze-y ways.

Nah. Wanting dialogue in a foreign language translated in subtitles is perfectly reasonable. I'd expect shows to do the same if it was based in another country, with English dialogue.

If you want to learn Spanish from TV, watch telenovelas, not American TV in the hopes that you'll come across some characters speaking Spanish.

If they don't translate what they're saying, it means it's not important dialogue and you don't need to know what it means.

And I have never seen the Spanish written out, that's weird, where did you see it?
