I guess there were elements of that early on, but the reason they put her in a lot of promos is more because the character is popular. Honestly, they hit the goth much harder than the sexy. She is much more slotted into little sister/surrogate daughter - and occasionally falls into a sort of petulant or spoiled little girl persona because of that. But what they hit most of all in the show is that she's really excellent at her job. Anyway, the actress will be 50 next year, so though the character is still excitable, she's mellowed a bit from the first few seasons. She does wear short skirts and platforms and dog collars, but she also sometimes wears coveralls.

I'm just here to comment that I hope you used the phrase 'gets my dander up' just to go with the cat picture.

Least: Jackson.

Is it still bestiality if you're fucking God's fursona?

Looking your age. Do you look older than your age? Younger? Right on?

Are you one of those weirdo people who get irately offended when you're ID'd for things that you're plenty old enough to purchase/participate in?

(Anonymous) 2018-03-21 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. Was Aslan supposed to represent God? I missed that memo in the movies.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-21 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Aslan's Jesus. It's blatant in the books, but even in the movie he still literally dies for the sins of man (or Edmund, at least), and is resurrected from the dead, and said death and resurrection leads to the triumph of his followers over evil.

yeah, no. Abby isn't portrayed that way. She's more sisterly and fucking brilliant at her job, and also very granola (bleeding heart, anti-fur). She's also a New Orleans girl and her Goth is much more Cajun than emo-inspired. She's an awesome character. And yes, she's gorgeous but she's not male-gazey except insomuch as any beautiful woman is.

Ahhh I want to know who it is!

Or there are a lot of insecure and socially anxious people.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-21 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, it can be the exact opposite of what you are assuming - someone has complimented them on their current writing, so they feel the need to be humble and say they used to be bad, really bad and really it's just practice that has gotten them where they are. This is something a lot of women are socialized into - downplaying their talents and efforts when given a compliment. I do it, but I try to be more aware of it now.

Yeah I never read the books as a kid. And I've always been shite at symbolism, lol. Whoops!

I didn't see Selma, but I'm going to assume OP is mad she didn't portray Johnson as swearing or flashing his dick enough.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-21 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
She's so fucking Wal-Mart goth.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-21 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have the option to be embarrassed about my younger self since I started writing in my 30s, but I definitely have improved since I learned to dump the epithets. But every time I write it seems I'm learning how to write all over again. It's fucking hard. Every time.

all of this.

It only annoys me when they take down older stories to some over-dramatic degree. And what about five years from now when you hate what you're writing now? Embrace the hell that is self-critical improvement :D

I, too, have trouble looking sexy and goth, but that's because I find looking goth to be way, way too much work.

What depraved and degenerate times do we live in, that goth can be called "emo-inspired" ;)

I look about ten years younger than I am, because good health, lack of stress, and strong Italian genetics. I get carded depending on who I'm with. If I'm with my younger friends or co-workers, I get carded 50/50. If I'm with someone older, like my Mom or my sister, I always get carded. If I'm at a store I always get carded, but their policy is "looks under 40", so whatever. I don't care. It's their job.

(waves) disappointed fan of the book here.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-21 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you're being stupid, OP. It's reasonable to want to know what the characters are saying if they suddenly start speaking a different language. I've watched movies with my friends where the subtitles only say "speaking in Spanish" and the characters in question where talking about something important, so I had to translate for my friends so the character's motivation would make more sense.

One of my favorite books is about an Indian-American girl and her parents speak Marathi, so there's dialogue in that language sprinkled throughout the book. On the one hand, it's cool because I get a better sense of the characters, but on the other hand, there aren't any notes or translations and I have to go by context clues to figure out what her parents are saying when they speak Marathi.

frankly, I think she's the only interesting character on the show.

(stymied? that's an expression my grandmother would use. and she's been dead for forty years.)
