You're not wrong, the Ryan Murphy style is soap opera as all hell.

But... people really, really like soap operas. And he marries the soap opera stuff to a distinctive aesthetic that works for people. I don't see why it's surprising that he's been successful - no more surprising than Shonda Rimes.

I've come to love her more. I disliked her a lot at first. I used to really hate this archetype. Still not my favorite, but she's more interesting to me now. But yes, Eliza is not the best actress. She does look the part of a slayer more physically than Sarah does, though, so there is that.

I'm excited but also dreading it because I know this season's plot will hinge on how good the main girl's acting is and I just didn't find her believable in the first season.

It depends on a few things. How long he was with a certain group, and whether "recovering" means "remembering." The actor subscribes to the theory that he really doesn't remember much of his former life.

Where did you read this? The movies seemingly show the opposite and IIRC the actor said that his backpack was full of notebooks about all the stuff he remembers.

Cloudy and cool, but no rain. Rain is really needed because the oak pollen is ridiculously high right now. I had to take my inhaler 4 times today, and I've been maxing out on benadryl. Luckily, I had nowhere to be and nothing to do.

Go to AO3. Go to your fandom of choice. Go to the Sort/Filter menu on the right. Check the box for your Woobie of choice under Character. Check 'Hurt/Comfort' and 'Angst' under Additional Tags. Sort and Filter, then Sort by kudos. You should be in woobie heaven.

Once you find a couple fics that scratch your itch, make note of recurring tags like "Woobie!Needs a Hug" and search for that tag too.
