136. Flapjack! ♥

155. IAWTS. She is such an admirable person. tbh, I didn't give her much attention until after I saw them live in concert. She really stood out to me from the rest of the girls. Just her pure energy and how she seemed so genuinely happy to see fans, I'll never forget it. It was infectious.

I love her smile and honestly, I think I try harder as a student when I think of her. XD; I think I've even used some of her study tips before. She really is a wonderful role model. ♥

156. Which series is that? It looks familiar.

155. Who is this? Even with all the k-drama I've watched I can't place her.

156 - It's Goong. And IVMAWTC cuz honestly, the sheer melodrama of the back and forth between Shin and Chae Gyung is just getting tedious. No, it's already passed tedium. They were frustrating before, but now they're totally laughable.

I love how every time an "OMG the adaptation of Watchmen will inevitably suck!" secret is posted, someone makes a comment like this. Not being sarcastic here. Making fun of Alan Moore's perilous stance on the line between genius and insanity will always brighten my day.

Secret Number 135

[identity profile] crazycorgilady.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Secret number 135:

I have read the first three and know everything that happens in the fourth.

You want to know why I do not like them?

Where do I begin? Shall I start with the fact that Meyer is an absolutely awful writer? Calling her "mediocre" is an undeserving compliment at best. Her sentence structure is bad, her grammar appalling, her metaphors and similes are terrible, and she is guilty of breaking the "show, don't tell" rule. She is extremely repetitive where it is not needed. (We get it Edward is hot, how many more pages are you going to waste telling us this?) She misuses words and is guilty of what we call “thesaurus rape.” She also defies all logic, either already pre-existing or the laws she sets up herself. And do not get me started on the purple prose. She is just an all around poor writer. Period. And when someone tries to give her constructive criticism…she refuses to accept it, and calls the person trying to help her improve in her writing a mean person who hurts her feelings.

Edward, is just plain creepy, and an abusive boyfriend. I am telling you right now if I find out that someone I knew was watching me in my sleep, he is getting knifed in the face, not permission to do it again. He is abusive not in a physical sense but in an emotional/mental sense. He decided who she can and cannot see, where she can go, and if she dares to disobey these rules, her car battery is gone. It’s. Just. Not. Right. Their entire relationship is based on looks and the fact that Bella smells good. And don’t give me the “It’s Twu Wuv” excuse, because I do not buy it.

Her characters are two dimensional and boring. All Bella does for three books is whine about how “unworthy” she is. She is an extremely weak character. Not physically, I do not care about that, I am talking about that fact that the girl is mentally unstable, and goes into a catatonic state when Edward leaves. Not to mention the fact that she is a self-insert Mary-Sue. Edward does nothing but angst about how dangerous he is. I, frankly, cannot stand them. Period.

These are just some of the reasons I dislike them. I could probably go on, but I won’t.

And for the record not reading a book because it looks stupid based on many negative reviews, is not the same as accusing Harry Potter of being Witchcraft for Dummies.

And, also for the record, as much as I dislike the books, I dislike censorship more, so I am not about to try and get the books banned or anything. If someone asks my opinion on the books, I will give it to them. If they want to turn it into a debate fine, by all means go ahead. If the person has never read them and they were wondering if they should read them, I will give my honest opinions on the books, and if they decide not read them, that is their decision, I did not put a gun to their head. I just gave them my review.

Now, why have I read all three if I hate them so much? So I don’t get accused of the very thing you just said.

That's perfectly fine-I just targeted the ones who say that they suck without reading so much of a line of it. There's a facebook group for that guy (and I'm in it), so, yeah, I guess he has a fandom.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
102. I was about to make a secret like this. I've been hanging with a guy from a completely different country who actually went out and did things during his childhood/adolescence/young adulthood, and as a result, hasn't watched half the tv or movies that I have... I never feel so shallow as when all I can relate something to is a fandom of mine.

105. I don't see how that makes him less creepy. Though it's one of the best lines I've ever read. It's also absolutely true. The Joker is obsessed with Batman, to the point where it really might as well be Glenn Close in that make-up saying "I'm not going to be ignored, Bruce." The movie analogy was perfect--he is like a dog chasing cars. He wants Batman, but not really that way, but if he ever got him he doesn't know what he'd do with him but he wants to be at the center of Batman's world, oh yes, he wants to be the dark thing that haunts his every waking thought, the same kind of torment as a lover, without the actual love (or sex).
That doesn't make him less unsettling or scary. It makes him moreso.

108. HA! I only just heard that he was going to be in it, but I thought the exact same thing. Wade had better comment to the audience. Oh man, fun panel, that, too.

110. Word.

111. I don't get the problem with saying "graphic novel" instead of "comic book." Though when I reveal to a norm that new-hardcore-movie has "humble" orgins, I usually just say "comic." But to me, a doorstopper like Watchmen or V for Vendetta or even some of (ick) Frank Miller is a "graphic novel." It has less to do with sounding pretentious, and more to do with the fact that you could wallop a foe with it.
Honestly, I've been waiting for the movie for years now, ever since I first read it, just so the purists will finally have their little sky fall, and we can all shut up about it a year or so later.

113. Heh. When I was 10, I created a Lt. onboard the original Enterprise who was also 10, and just mentally inserted her into all the episodes and books (did I mention I'd watch the show in black leggings and red jumper, complete with insignia pin?). I was way too young to care about boinking the old guys, so I just wanted to be McCoy's bestest-best friend and favourite assistant.

I regret nothing.

121. ...Actually...That's what I like about him. I mean, on one hand, I like the exuberant, puppy-Doctor who was all excited about the newness of everything. But on the other hand...I just think he's a Magnificent B*****d, and I get a bit of a giggle when folk a)seem surprised by this or b)seem to think he's fluffy. Nooo, Ten's having a little midlife crisis...

122. I love the Weasleys. They're my favourite fictional family ever, and I often related them to the two other Big Families in my life. But I'll be the first to admit they were messed up. I've written essays about why Percy wasn't in the wrong, and how he's the real victim when every single family member but his mother turned viciously on him for standing up for what he believed it (Typical Gryff behaviour, I think. They also never seem to notice how incredibly protective of his little siblings he is. And Ron's constant, unplayful hatred of Percy even before The Incident is just...disgusting, really).
...
But I still love them. I still absolutely love them as a family unit. Because eventually, they all function together about as well as any family (especially one that large) can, and they still have warmth and love.

105 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-08-07 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes him less creepy because I want to laugh in his face about it. And he gets this sad face when Lex asks the question, like "it's true, Batman doesn't love me :("

132. I found it to be something of an "Alas, Poor Scrappy" moment. With a new actress playing her, I realised it's the character that I hate, so I don't particularly mind that she got iced (or did she....)

134. I think this is a repeat, and it's still ridiculous. As someone who's first forays into the world of fandom involved feverent Xellos/Lina shipping (and honestly, I still like it)...Xellos "bursting into tears" is argueably the most ridiculous thing I can imagine, right after the Joker falling in love with anyone.

135. This is exactly why I want to read them, even though I don't want to wind up writing like that for the next month or so. I compromise, read bits and pieces, but I know, I know, gotta actually read 'em to whinge about it proper.

140. Lol.

142. 45 years? If you're going back that far, I really don't think it's just the girls he's talking to.
But honestly, as someone who still kind of hopes to hear the TARDIS engines one day...yeesh, man.

145. Heh. Tennant's oral fetish never ceases to cause giggles for me. I think there was a really good fic about it awhile back...

151. Um.

152. Heh. Reminds me of being 10 and discovering Star Wars and Star Trek at the same time. It was around the same time as my parent's divorce as well, and it felt pretty similar. "I love you both! Why can't there be wookies here and vulcans there?"

158. I ship it because the first bit of Avatar I remember seeing (aside from the first bit of Zuko's past) was him taunting her with the necklace, and I figured that was supposed to be the thing. Later, it's because I thought it would be unexpected and interesting. There were plenty more reasons, but I won't deny that visually, they just look good together was one of them.
I also won't deny that I squeed with happy when Aang and Katara finally got their kiss. Bless.

160. LOL! Oh, that makes for a beautiful mental image. Right there with Alan Doyl trying to use the coffee maker while Sean slow-mo-NOoooos in the background.

166. I don't get shipping Doctor/Donna. I feel like it just defeats the purpose.

172. That's...that's horrible. Just so sad. I was about to chime in with "nah, my parents weren't into my fandoms" but I grew up on the Beatles, and even if we got into it at different times, my Dad and I are both into Star Trek. And while I know my sibs are sort of victims of "we've done this before" it's nowhere near to that extent. I'd give you a virtual hug right now.

169

[identity profile] immoral-cascade.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
169. I'm pretty sure she wasn't implying anything like that... :\ Just that she isn't bi because she's married to one person that I can only assume is one gender.

Re: 169

[identity profile] fufu-berry.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
But I think OP's point was that being married to one person doesn't make you NOT bi. It's a fallacy to believe that bisexuals are necessarily not monogamous simply because they can feel attraction to more than one gender. It seems like the actress either doesn't understand that bisexuality does not equal polyamory or was just not very articulate about what she was trying to explain.
