130 - That's the great thing about the Doctor. Every regeneration is a new person. Not only does he look different, but he acts differently, he reacts differently, and he related differently. They've never tried to make the different regenerations the same. Some Doctors (like Five, and occasionally Ten) will bring in certain character traits that other actors chose to give to their Doctor, but it's an affectation. An homage, as it were. The great thing about the Doctor is that he can appeal to everyone, if you give it enough time. I am not a Rose/Doctor shipper by any means, but I can agree that Rose/Nine was more plausible than Rose/Ten.

150 - Oh, the comic inside the comic. People have been debating "Marooned" for decades. I don't know if there's ever been an official stance on that particular side-story, but I always thought of it as a heavy handed self-fulfilling prophecy.

I can't be the only person who's said this, it's a pretty common theory from what I remember of the old debates. But I'm gonna throw my $.02 in anyway. Compare the two plots. In "Marooned", the mariner was so very sure that something terrible was going to happen to Davidstown that he committed terrible acts (desecrating the dead by building a raft out of them, murder, theft, etc) in a desperate attempt to keep something even more terrible from happening. And in the end it turns out the the only bad things were his fault. The only death in Davidstown was at his hands. The only one who posed any threat to anyone was him, but he was so set in his idea that the Black Freighter was coming to wipe out Davidstown that he couldn't see what he was doing was wrong. He truly believed that he was in the right. In the end he realises that he was wrong, obviously, but just barely. Now, look at the main plot of Watchmen.

(SPOILER ALERT FOR OTHERS WHO MAY NOT KNOW THE STORY)

The basic plot behind Watchmen is that Adrian Veidt has become so convinced that war is going to break out between America and the USSR and wipe everyone off the face of the planet that he is willing to commit atrocious acts to keep it from happening (kidnapping the scientists, murdering the Comedian, allowing Bubastis to die {what?, it was important to me!}, sacrificing the population of New York City, etc). After all, the needs of the many out weight the needs of the few or the one. In the end, the person who was the most dangerous, who caused the most damage was probably him. We can't know for sure that the world wouldn't have descended into radioactive chaos without his help... but the real world did fine without him, after all. The book ends before he comes to this realisation, but he's a smart guy. I'm sure he'd figure it out eventually, especially once the New Frontiersman publishes Rorschach's journals, and it all falls apart. Admittedly, the things Adrian did were a hell of a lot worse than the things the mariner did, but they were working within the bounds of what was available to them. The parallels between the two stories is obvious, if you put way too much thought into it.

...I'm probably reading way too much into it, and I could be WAY off the mark because it's been a long time since I read the books. But that's what I always figured it was. The Tale of the Black Freighter was a sort of storybook summation of the overarching plot of the story. A hint of things to come.

Oh, come on, there must be someone outta there willing to give it a try!
I do agree with those who already responded to you, the best you can do is posting your story on forums or communities dedicated to drawing, and hoping for people to be interested in it. However busy artists are busy, so generally it's very, very welcome if you provide at least :
- the length of your project. A lot of people seem to forget it, but think of the poor artist who's willing to give it a shot, but doesn't know if he will spend two months, or five years of his life on the project, whereas he most likely also has characters and stories of his own. Generally the simple fact that he doesn't know that factor unmotivates him to even answer to the topic, assuming it will simply be too long.
- main lines of your story, and characters of course. I guess it's the same for everyone, writers and people who draw, but what keeps you working on a project is your attachment to those things, isn't it? If the artist doesn't feel any vibes with them, then it'd be difficult to work on the project.
- a sample of script of the scenario. Just to see how it will be to deal with the story on a practical basis.
- and uh, well, what kind of art style you're looking for, I guess.
I unfortunately don't have any links to forums or communities to give you, because I am french and hang around french forums. But generally the forums dedicated to drawing already have an "announce", or, in the best case "Artists looking for writers" and "Writers looking for artists" sections/topics.
But even though, it will be a hard quest, because the artist kind is a busy kind.
But you wouldn't get laughed at ; such things are common, so common maybe that they now remain unnoticed for the most part by the artists.

Actually I would be interested in your project myself. For a year now I've been longing to draw a great story as a webcomic. I do have characters of my own, and a beginning of story in my head, but I don't feel ready to develop it yet. Lately, instead of drawing my own stories, I've asked people to do them for me, because I don't appreciate what I can come up with myself.
The problem is - I already have three projects planned. Short ones, that is, but I think I'd be finished around Christmas in the best case (and well I have exams this year) . And anyway, I'm rather picky about my free time, and god knows I won't have much next year.
And I'm not one of those fantastic artists around. And I don't know about your story either :D (Because well, I can't appreciate every kind of stories =D; ... Worse it is when it comes to drawing them)
So yes, I think it would be unreasonable for me to actually say I could do it, because even though I can be very motivated, but time is here and well, I don't want to accept to then drop it because of lack of time (except if it's a short story, then I could most likely accept, but I don't know about that)

But maybe I could at least... I don't know, making a few pages when I have free time (which will not come so soon, but well), it could do you some advertisement if I were to post them on several artist communities (and it could act out as a kind of test). That's just an idea, though! But you've got to advertise and let it know if you actually want your story to be drawn one day.

And don't be afraid to say aloud to your friends that you actually want it drawn and do not plan to write it. It's so painful not being honest. And who knows, maybe those friends will look frantically for an artist for you? :D

171 - I'm starting the new comm, help wanted!

146. Oh my god me too! I've seen many of his movies, but was never obsessed with him or even cared about him and didn't really understand why everyone was so upset over his death.
And then on Monday the teacher wasn't here so the sub let us watch 10 Things I Hate About You, and I've finally realised his talent and I regret not watching it earlier, and I miss him so much now :(

164. Obvious pairing is not obvious.

The show is like a western:

-two guys ride into town
-two guys (Gary Stus) save the day from evil
-they drive off into the sunset

The fandom for that show is scary.

[identity profile] sacrilicious.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
162. No one gives a shit about your age in fandom. Seriously. I've been reading porn since I was 14. And if you're still worried about the chance that someone might take an issue with your age there is this wonderful thing called LYING.

134

[identity profile] baby-werewolf.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand you...I feel kind of the opposite about my ideas - I can see images I could draw for bits of it, and I get the whole world set up in my head...but no coherent plot.
I want to draw to someone else's writing...
(my not-gonna-happen dream for the future is to be a comics artist)

I wouldn't laugh at you and there are probably plenty of other (and better) artists out there who wouldn't either.

166

[identity profile] spiderhood.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
D`oh. So you hate dubbed anime, like 99.99% of the fandom. Ok. So what? Why is this a secret?

ILU. YOU'RE NOT ALONE. ♥

Aren't we all?

Seriously, we queers don't have anywhere near enough positive, non-stereotyped, out people like ourselves to look to in popular entertainment.

Re: 103

[identity profile] akai_senshi.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The bad part is, if they put a gay character on Heroes (or other popular shows), it will most likely be young, male, and white, and act like a circuit kid.
