Misreading a t as a T and putting waaaaaaaaaaaaay (like, oh my god way too much) cayenne pepper in a recipe.

Way ouch!

I mean, I am good with spicy food but oh my god it wasn't spicy, it was beyond inedible, lol.

I overcooked a huge batch of vegetables for stir fry and they were so mushy at the end I couldn't eat any of it. I also messed up the sauces so I ended up putting too much sweet instead of savory. Sweet mush. Yuck.

I did that before and forced myself to eat it because I didn't want to waste food. It was awful.

Making red velvet cupcakes, I misread the amount of food colouring you needed. Put in FOUR BOTTLES of red food colouring. Batter tasted a little funny but oh well I guess that's how this batter tastes. Put the cakes in the oven. When they were done, opened the oven and POISON GAS CAME OUT AND IT STUNG MY EYES. Still didn't realise something was wrong. Took the cakes out, iced them, ate one... Only THEN did I check the recipe and realised I'd fucked up.

Threw away my chicken stock when making soup. I didn't realize I should save it for later.

Made brownies without greasing the pan. They were impossible to get out. :(

we didn't own a microwave when i was younger, so i was waaaay too old when i found out that some things, especially shiny, metallic things, shouldn't go in one.

Okay, so, most of the dry ingredients in my pantry are in more-or-less identical tupperware containers. Most of them are labelled, some are not.
One day my mum did a little re-organising, and I put a cup of bicarb soda into biscuits where I was meant to put icing sugar.
Obviously they were completely inedible, which was a particular drag because they were piped, so that was a lot of time down the drain.

Also, one time I managed to bake brownies with no flour, which... was not great.

Forgot to refrigerate the dough for a certain cookie recipe... didn't understand why I couldn't scoop it up... thought adding flour to the mix would make it better.

Let's just say when they finally came out, you could probably break a tooth on one.

Similar to cayenne anon above, I misread the recipe for my grandmother's mustard potato salad the first time making it again after many years had gone by.

I somehow transcribed what was supposed to be 1/2 cup of sugar in the dressing as.. 1 and 1/2 cups.

Egads that was terrible! Bits of potato and egg floating in a bowlful of super-sweet sauce with barely a hint of mustard in sight. *blargh*

The first time I made the sauce for cold Soba noodles I left it on the stove too long. Turns out a mixture of soy sauce, mirin and brown sugar looks surprisingly a lot like tar when cooked too long.

The first time I attempted yeasted bread that wasn’t flatbread of some sort, the loaves came out as bland, floury bricks. One time I made my go-to crustless quiche recipe with pecorino romano cheese, which is very, very salty, without adjusting the salt in the recipe. The quiche tasted like a salt lick. Overcooked pasta is digusting. And once I ruined the finish on a Le Creuset pan while attempting to make sesame halvah—it set in the pan like sesame cement.

I made arroz con leche in my mother's super expensive pan. I went to do something else and forgot about it until I smelled something burning. The milk had all evaporated and left the pan black. I called my friend, whose mom sold the pans, and begged her to get me one before my mom came home. She told me it wasn't possible, but gave me directions to clean it and I managed to get it all shiny again.
