I'm sick

(Anonymous) 2018-09-16 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
being sick sucks

what do you do when you're sick to make yourself comfy?

Ear plugs, a warm blanket, just resting in silence in my bed. Perhaps with my kitty laying at my feet.

I just sleep as much as possible.

Go to work. Shower. Do my regular stuff. I actually find I feel worse if I act like I'm sick? If that makes sense. Like instead of powering through, if I give in, I just feel like I'm dying.

Darkness, reachable fluids, blankets, and a well known audiobook so you can drift in and out of it and not be bored when you're vaguely lucid but not be woken when you're dozey.

Ginger ale. When I was a kid I always got that when I was sick and I still find it comforting. I can't drink it other times though, because it reminds me too much of being sick.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better soon, anon! I'm sick too and it sucks because I wanted to go see the festivities for Mexico's Independence Day (I love watching the dances), but I have a killer headache. I've made myself comfy by curling up on the couch with my dog and keeping medicine nearby.

Ginger ale and, when i had cable, random, mindless shows i watched from the couch in my big, warm robe while dozing on and off.

Now it's Netflix instead, but still - fluffy warm robe/throws, ginger ale, dozing.

Stay in bed, eat soup, drink tea, try to read a book from my childhood or watch cartoons from my childhood.

just got over being sick (iffy...I am actually still very stuffy and my ears are wadded with grossness but I can function again) and honestly, nothing. I try, and nothing works. I'm miserable no matter what I do.

a nice pot of arroz caldo helps for a little while but mostly just because it's such a delicious pot of chicken and rice soup you can't help but be happy while you're eating it.

Depends on what’s wrong. Ibuprofen, a decongestant, and lots of fluids for stuff where I have a scratchy throat and turn into a mucus fountain. Lots of showers and baths when I’m running a fever and sweating or throwing up. If I’m still able to focus and not contagious I go to work so I don’t wallow in feeling shitty. If everything hurts or I can’t stay awake or focus, I stay home and try to sleep as much as possible. Soup and tea if I can keep them down, dry whole wheat toast if I can’t.

Culling Possessions

(Anonymous) 2018-09-16 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Trying to clear out my closet and I have two questions:
1) How in the world did I end up with so many things?
2) Why do hardly any of them fit?
3) How the hell do I keep motivated to finish this project tonight?
Make that three questions.
... I'll come in again.

Re: Culling Possessions

(Anonymous) 2018-09-16 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Material possessions are the woooooorst and I gotta get better at just throwing stuff away. Or just not buying stuff in the first place - especially books. I've learned my lesson on books, I now refuse to buy books unless I want to own them. If I just want to read 'em, I get them from the library. They're such a pain to store and move.

Been there. I've got plenty of clothes that I don't use anymore, but I don't want to throw them out, because they cost money. But I can't really sell them either, because they are old and out of fashion.

do you work well with noise in the background? I work fastest/stay focused listening to music, my roommate does better with a tv show she's seen a bazillion times on netflix.

either way, just think of all that sweet, sweet space you'll have when you're done. get angry at the useless waste our society foists on us. consider the people who may be able to find a whole new life for those clothes at Goodwill. revel in purging yourself of physical reminders of unpleasant times in your life or at the very least bad fashion fads.

I love getting rid of stuff but cleaning out an entire closet can still be rough. Take a before and after picture maybe? I posted one to unfuckyourhabitat on tumblr, though I don't know if that's still active anymore.

Computer question

(Anonymous) 2018-09-16 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to get rid of my old laptop which has Windows 8, but I want to make sure all my files are off the hard drive. What's the simplest way to do that? Someone told me you have to smash it with a hammer or people can still find the stuff, but I don't think anyone wants to know what's on my hard drive that damn bad that they're going to look that hard for it.

What is something you thought was stupid growing up,

(Anonymous) 2018-09-16 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
But now love or totally get why it is a thing?

"Adult" things you still have no interest/taste for.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-16 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
For me it's coffee. Everyone I know drinks it, but I just never acquired the taste for it. The closest I get is maybe a white mocha latte, but I would consider that more milk/sugar than actually coffee.

Weird things bothering you

(Anonymous) 2018-09-17 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
So last night I got a news alert on my phone, and before reading it my first (super weird) thought was "OMG, [minor celebrity that I like, but am not a massive fan of or anything] died", completely out of nowhere. I wasn't thinking about him or anything, so I'm not sure where that came from, but whatever.

Then last night I dreamed he came to my work for some reason (which never would happen in real life, he lives in a completely different place and there's just no reason why he would) and casually mentioned that he was moving somewhere where I would no longer be able to follow his career. I woke up right after that dream, sad for some reason that I wouldn't be able to follow him, which is weird, because like I said, I like him well enough, but he's not someone I'm a huge fan of or anything. Went back to sleep, then when I woke up again, it was one of those situations where I immediately forgot what I was dreaming about when I woke up, but I know it involved him, and it was unsettling. So I don't know if he died in it or something, but I felt sort of strange for the next couple hours.

I've been busy doing stuff since then so I haven't thought about it, but now it's late and I need to be getting to bed soon and I'm thinking about it again and it's freaking me out and worrying that this dude is going to die soon. Where this came from/why makes no sense.

Has anyone ever had anything similar happen to them? I don't understand it, and it's really weirding me out.
