I just saw this news today, and I'm really pissed. Luke Cage was good. I don't care about Iron Fist. But Luke Cage was good and also important.

"Luke Cage was good."

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. That is like saying Age of Ultron is good. It had good parts, but overall it sucked.

I agree that the show is important, absolutely, but the second half of the first season was much weaker than the first. Cottonmouth was a hugely compelling villain, especially set up opposite Mariah, and I was excited to see where she would take things, but the second Diamondback took over with his boring "motivation", I lost interest. Mariah should have been the top villain for the rest of the season, 100%.

I mean, yeah, fuck Disney. That's kind of what's going to happen when you give massive corporate entities this much power over anything, whether it's entertainment or anything else. It has nothing to do with how good their IPs are.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. This is why anything that approaches being a monopoly is not a good idea.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
They are totally going to make a Heroes for Hire series for the new streaming service. Iron Fist and Luke Cage are their least popular and most family friendly series. Heroes for Hire is perfect for the new service.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
How... how are either IF or LC family friendly?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if all the Netflix Marvel shows end up cancelled by the end of the year, this is feeling like Netflix are cleaning house of their Disney-owned products because of Disney starting up a competitive service.

I could be wrong ofc, but it just feels this way to me.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, Netflix isn't the one cleaning house.

Nooooooo. I really don't want Jessica Jones cancelled. Luke Cage is bad enough. Don't care too much about the others. But JJ is really, really good.

Yes, I'm afraid you're right with the clarification that it's Disney doing this, not Netflix. I don't think those series will benefit from being on a Disney-only streaming service, IMO.

Looks like DD and JJ are safe.

"Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos suggested in a blunt, brief and clear comment. Per Inverse, Sarandos said, “Those shows are for us to cancel and we’re super happy with their performance so far.”"

"whether or not they can create new shows about new Marvel heroes, it’s their prerogative how long they want to keep their existing titles on the air."

Black Panther not getting a sequel would be perfectly understandable: I haven't been this bored by a movie in ages. I actually fell asleep four times. The main characters weren't just lacking in chemistry, they were positively running up a bill for it. Honest execptions were Shuri and M'Baku, but T'Challa? It wouldn't have made much impact if he had become fertilizer for good.

That may be your opinion, but Black Panther made Marvel/Disney a ton of money. Of course there is going to be a sequel.

I thought BP was overrated (as in, not quite worthy of Oscar buzz) but if you were paying any attention you'd know this was not the popular reception at all.

I mean. You're absolutely entitled to dislike the movie, but whether or not movies get sequels depends more on their box office earnings than your personal opinion. The fact that you thought it was dull doesn't negate the much more important fact that it made a lot of money.

I didn't like any of the Marvel shows on Netflix, but I guess that's mostly my superhero fatigue talking. Gave them a try to see if the show format worked better for me than the movies, but I never made it past episodes six or seven.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Only one I could make it through was DD and the one with all of them. I tried JJ twice, and IF and LC once each and just... meh.

Same. I liked Iron Fist, as in it wasn't great but it was ok and I love Colleen, but Luke Cage was so good this season and had so much potential with Luke going down a Godfather path.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-22 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Noooooo !!!!!! I was holding on watching the new seasons of the Marvel Netflix shows because I wanted to be able to enjoy them the most and now not only Iron Fist isn't renewed (my least favorite but it had potential) but Luke Cage, which I love and though was a success, in't either ? That's bullcrap ! That doesn't make any sense. And if it is Disney's decision I think they're making a mistake.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-23 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The only reasoning we have so far is "the parties involved could not reach a deal on how to move forward."

99% certain it's Disney bullshit.
