104 For a lot of people that is what they mean by shipping, but many narratives prioritize romantic relationships over others so you'll get more interaction if they hook up. Also, it "proves" that the pairing in question is the "most important" for those characters. Also, fanfic is mostly romance and/or porn, so you'll get more fic.

110 lol adolescent intellectual snob cliche.

118 I'm beginning to think he isn't going to—he certainly bounced back from that stroke!

120,131 The ongoing Phantom "true fan" snob-off is seriously the most hilarious thing on f!s right now. Keep it coming!

127 Is this Ragtime? Because I don't think that show is racist, but rather, deals with and reflects the racial problems in the US at the turn of the last century—and very well. Not to mention that it had a lot of musical roles for African American actors and there ain't much of that.

135 ENOUGH WITH THE COMPETITIVE MOURNING SECRETS. My god, why you think how much you cried when they died is some kind of measure of how much you felt for them or how important they were in your life? And are you aware that fiction is seen as "cathartic" for a reason? Read a fucking book on fictional catharsis and/or the mourning process and come back to me when you stop being stupid.

137 So why do you post them except to get us all riled up, which is why people say they're troll secrets? I mean, "troll" merely means "I don't even respect you enough to get upset with that secret and/or take the time to reply to the issues therein."

153 I'm lazy: where's the drinking game secret?

154 lol! I didn't realize that's where that production was set. I think Marat/Sade is in production on at least one ivy league/seven sisters/small liberal arts college campus at any given moment. It ranks up there with Equus for plays that didn't age well, IMHO.

173 (a) She has an awesome girlfriend. (b) I adore him but he has the emotional maturity of a seventh grader. (c) So not only could she do better, but she is doing better. But OMG how psyched are you that she's getting the 9pm show? Dude, the TOSS!

Didn't age well...? Bizarre. I saw it in Hollywood a few years ago and was struck by how horribly timely it still was!

110 What if I read The Plague but not The Stranger (since, you know, EVERYONE reads The Stranger)?

116 That show... sucks. Not many people like it anyway.

133 I liked the Haruhi dub, too. I like it so much that I actually watch the dub rather than the sub on the dvd. (I've seen it subbed before anyway.) The only thing I don't like about it is that they dubbed the songs, and Wendee Lee or whoever is doing Haruhi can't sing worth a damn, and the lyrics sound weird in English.
Actually, the only other anime that I watch the dub of now rather than the sub is Macross. Again, I saw the Japanese first (way before ADV dubbed it).

142 I just want to know that there are other English-speaking female fans of Legend of Galactic Heroes who don't happen to be watching it just to slash all the characters.

148 It's not even pretty, it looks like ass. Their style has really degenerated a lot.

188 Harem shows are loosely related in theme to anime based on dating sims. Makes perfect sense.

I have to agree... and if it's the case, why does [AS] pour so much energy advertising and keeping it? Even Family Guy reruns of the same early episodes are way more tolerable.

119. This is moar like advice than a secret. And advice I'll take!

133. Kill whoever said that. Bandai worked so god damn hard on that dub.

155. It happens. Might be a phase. I stopped reading fanfiction period for a good 2 years or so. I started reading again when I got desperate for some Neuro material of any kind, but even then, that lasted for maybe a week... Haven't read any fanfiction since. It helps to go back and read old fanfics.

116. I fucking hate it with a vengeance, but whatever, people can like what they like. It's embarrassing to watch & just makes me completely uncomfortable.

194. This consensus of 'you-like-anime'= UNCULTURED is not just alive & well on the interwebs, but IRL too :\ You can bet I never, ever tell people that I remotely like anime when I first meet them, since it's an automatic thing for them to judge you a lot harsher, since most of the weeaboos in the world are fucking retards.

199. I don't see it. Maybe the facial hair a bit?

114, 197

[identity profile] darkdork13.livejournal.com 2008-08-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)

101. ME FREAKING TOO

114. UHHHHHH..........

118. KRISTOPHER NEVER DIES

133. I like dubs lots of times. I prefer the Japanese versions generally, but I'm not like the loser weeaboos that are like OH TEH NOES DUBS MAKE MAI EARS BLEEEED etc. BUT THE HARUHI DUB?! THAT MAKES MY EARS BLEED. I'M SORRY, I'M JUST NOT SEEING IT.

Doesn't make you tasteless, though. :V

137. I agree. I'm also perplexed at half the secrets that end up in N!S when they're pretty much rephrases of secrets that get posted. =/

You know, me too. That was always my major problem with the site - especially since they repeatedly call themselves a "feminist" blogging site, when, well, they're not really. Is there a "technical" term for female empowerment outside of the feminist equality movement?

122. Horray for Dekker-love.

182. Err it's not just the fandom, it's just most times if you don't like something someone else loves they're less inclined to like you lol. Personally I love the show but if you think it sucks, I have no problem with it though.

197. LOL wow Instant Star secret cool xD though I don't really care for Karma though she's entertaining.

!!!!

I love the Middleman, but I don't really care about the shipping as long as the show remains awesome.

104, 116, 119, 133, 137, 191

[identity profile] xreddestinyx.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
104. Same here! I'm also asexual, and when I say that I ship two characters, it just means that I think they're good together and like to see and think about the interaction between them. They can screw if they want, of course, but that's not where my interest is. :P

116. It doesn't really affect how I think of the people who watch it, because I couldn't care less, but... Yeah. It's a pretty awful show.

119. It's fun when someone recognizes something like that, isn't it? ^^

133. I think Bandai does a good job with its dubs. ...But all DVDs are overpriced. :P (Don't worry, that's just me being cheap/poor.)

137. I've always boggled about people here basically telling people that they suck based on a secret. Do they think the person who POSTED it doesn't know how lame it sounds? That's why they put it here instead of talking about it publicly.

191. My friend and I aren't really convinced that he's dead, either. Because he's one of the major Batman villains, and it would be weird to have him come and go in a single movie. But I dunno.

102: I admit I always watched Hercules more, but unlike, say, Heroes, isn't Zena *supposed* to be quite silly?

104: Yes, but other people may like different things to you. Controversial, but you never know.

126: Wow, that's a picture isn't it.

194: I can't work out if you realise the Malcovich secrets were trolls or not...

[identity profile] calasstriastar.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's one of the most amazing movies ever. That scene was one of many from that film that made me shiver.

NO HARD FEELINGS, SYAORAN, BUT I CANNOT PASS UP THE LULZ.

155. YOU'RE FINALLY MATURING INTO A SENSIBLE ADULT READY FOR THE REAL WORLD.
(Have fun~!)

156. This means I need to take a picture of my favorite obscure pairings with this camera! I get it *o*! Your bad idea inducing logic, thank you for showing me it.

163. ....I now want to see someone redo south park in a different style. o_o

172. Uuuuhhhh... I find the shirt on the left to be hot. I want it. Are you saying I'm alone? D:

Ragtime. One of the best musicals I've ever seen.

[identity profile] colortheory.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
124. Word.

It's 43 minutes long. Surely, somebody can spare forty-three minutes out of their busy lives to watch it before they pass judgment because it's "too popular."

Maybe they ought to think about why it's so popular.

[identity profile] grimmerlove.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
L-lol. In all fairness, if you phrased it like you did in your secret, it's no wonder people who are fans of the series unfriended you.
