I myself didn't read fanfiction most of 2007 until I joined a fandom. I still can go week or two without reading a single one.

OMG, Purple Moon secret!! I was such a ridiculously huge fan of those games. I didn't know what had happened to the company or that it had gotten so much criticism for stereotyping until I looked it up on Wikipedia a few months ago.

I kind of did notice it when I played the games, though I'd thought the point they were trying to make was "be proud of your heritage" . . . but yeah, they did go about it wrong in lots of ways. (I still remember how the answers annoyed me when Rockett commented on Miko's and Nakili's names. Miko: "Mine's Japanese!" Nakili: "And mine's African!" Me: "AFRICAN ISN'T A LANGUAGE!")
