Notes:

Okay, so here we go. Just a little thing, but fun, plus you get stuff. :D

And before anyone asks, don't worry, we don't want to know who has like the deepest, darkest secret or anything like that. The point of this is to boost [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets watchers/participation. We've tried to get word about the comm out there, but you know, we need your help. And so, a referral contest!

How this works:

1. Grab people to join/watch/participate in the comm. Spam f-lists, post in comms that might be relevant, anything you can think of! New people submitting at least one secret is preferred, but hey, watchers are nice too!
2. Have them comment here with your lj username. They have to be logged in, but all comments are screened, so don't worry.
3. At the end of the month, March 31st, we'll count up how many people were referred by each person, and the top three get prizes. 1st picks first, 2nd picks second, 3rd gets whatever's left, it's pretty simple. :D

Winners get a choice of:

→ $15 LJ gift certificate from [livejournal.com profile] benightedfate. (C'mon! Money!)
→ A choice of graphics/icon set/fan art by [livejournal.com profile] shahnichan. (She's good at it!)
→ Customized LJ layout/profile layout/anything requiring coding by [livejournal.com profile] grayout. Or fanfiction if you want, that works too. *dies* (This is pretty much the "Case gets to be your slave for a day" choice. I'm useful! I swear!)

And that's it. Easy, right? Go! :D

1. Being Christian doesn't mean you can't like shounen-ai. I consider myself a Christian and well ... we know my take on yaoi, and porn and well sex in general.

7. I don't blame you. I was never really in fandom, but I kind of liked the first game.

8. Ehm ... wut? Coming from someone who all but started the HojoxVincent following, what's so bad about it? I've never read it but whatever.

10. Years ago, my best friend and I read something concerning 'Harry's 12 inch wand' and then proceeded to wonder where the hell that 12 inch wand was going while holding a ruler up only to realize it was a 10 inch ruler. Good times.

(Anonymous) 2007-03-04 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
While I mean to ask the same question about what's so bad about it, are you saying you started the Hojo x Vincent fan following and we all couldn't have thought of it ourselves? (NOT sniping at you, just asking you to be careful on how you word things.)

(Anonymous) 2007-03-04 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
uh agreed there. I never heard of you in relation to Hojo x Vincent so i don't associate you with even 'starting' it.

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 03:48 am (UTC)(link)

It was years ago ... we're talking like 5 or 6 and yes at the time I was the only one writing it. I haven't touched it for years and likely never will again.

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 04:05 am (UTC)(link)

Years ago I wrote HojoxVincent all the time and had cult following before people really were writing it or even acknowledging its existence. Go sift through ff.net or [livejournal.com profile] ffvii_yaoi if you really want confirmation. Yeah, I posted under [livejournal.com profile] skyfalls back in the day. I have no clue what's going on with the fandom these days because I stopped touching it years ago and yeah most newer fans probably don't even have a clue that there were those who all but started it and set a lot of standards which have probably been blown to hell by DoC. But back in the day it was me and [livejournal.com profile] seraphim_sephiroth and Rene of Hojo.org and SeasonofthePumpkin who even gave the pairing any recognition. I think [livejournal.com profile] emerald_emebers was the only person who had done it before us.

A lot of new fans don't remember our stuff probably, but yes at one time we were the only ones doing it and in essence, yes I along with a handful of others kind of started it then. But you obviously weren't around then and wouldn't know that.

I'll word things however I want to, kthx.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Excuse me. I was around in FFVII fandom eight years ago, and I can promise you there were people writing HojoxVincent fanfiction long before you or the hojo.org crazies (excluding Rene) claim to have "popularized" it.

Perhaps from your perception you were first, but you were not.

On that note fuck DoC ;[

[identity profile] alaturk.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
okay, okay. now look. we need to all chill for a while. we're all of the old fandom, so we've at least got common ground. older fans tend to get very protective of their fandom (i guilty of that too, at times) and lash out against people who think they're the first to do this or best to do that. trust me, i've had my fair share of that wank.

but let's be reasonable. hojoxvincent has never been really fucking popular until DoC. it's kind of a closet thing, so the numbers are easily fudged on who did what first and who did what and made it popular. we can all claim that we are the first this or best that, but someone's always going to challenge us and start a thread like this. so klytaemnestra says she and friends popularized it. in some circles, they probably did. maybe not the circles you were in, but i saw when/where she posted and can at least verify that yes, she (and at least rene) did in fact often gripe about how there was no love for that pairing. i'd dappled in it myself at that time.

the ffvii fandom has never been particularly well put-together. there was this group and that one and this circle of big names and those webmasters. not everyone is everywhere. there is no ffvii fandom omniscence. so let's just leave it at that. we all hate the new DoC fans, and the ones of that pairing, and we're kin in that respect.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
...Hee, I love your site and have for years!

And hey, I agree completely. I was just pointing out, rather harshly totallymybad, that there is no way to tell who wrote shit first and presuming is rather arrogant.

I don't mean to offend though, honestly. Oldbies unite :)

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:11 am (UTC)(link)

It's cool. I probably overreacted as well, as I'm known to do in regards to FFVII these days due to so many fandom idiots coming in and basically making me hate it.

But it's true, old fans should band together because once we die off the fandom will be completely lost.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I think the ffr people hate me for all the new!FFVII bashing I do because apparently appreciating the original game and disliking the complete stylistic changes the "sequels" make is some kind of horrible canon-raping blasphemy (and I say this without persecution complex, honestly), so I sympathize completely.

It's kind of sad when I start to miss the Aeris vs Tifa wars.

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:36 am (UTC)(link)

New fans hate me by default these days. Ah well.

I just mostly steer clear of it and play around in my other fandoms where I can still have fun without getting a massive headache from idiots.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
I love FFVII (despite its definite overratedness) too much to abandon ship, but I just hang with my like-minded friends anymore =\

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 11:21 am (UTC)(link)

I haven't really done anything with the fandom in almost a year and really don't miss it. It's sad 'cos after nine years of being involved in it in some form on and off, I just get pissed off by it now.

The old fans are cynical and the new fans are mostly a bunch of rambling idiots who do nothing but praise and preen each other's craptastic stuff and pretend that all the old fans of the original game don't exist.

I'm terrified of what the upcoming movie is going to do to Castlevania since that's been my fandom for life and I really don't want to see it overrun by stupid fangirls. Curse of Darkness did enough damage.

It's funny though, since my greatest love right now is Bleach and I almost think it's because I can play with it and no one's going to take that much interest because there are so many fans of it.

And it gives me an excuse to play with mindfuckery again.

But I digress, all my friends just kind of stopped caring as well where FFVII is concerned. My best friend and I used to write together but ever since AC came out that's stopped. Most of my old fandom friends have gone MIA these days ... I feel kind of detached from it. I'd like to backtrack a few years ago when [livejournal.com profile] eggnogstick revived my love for it and got me writing CidxVincent for her. Those where the days. I don't even know what the CidxVincent fandom is like these days if it even really exists any longer.

God, we sound like a bunch of old people now. x_x

If anything new fandom made me into a bitch.

nooooot a problem. i just really hate to see old fans start tearing each other apart because of the new-fan-inspired elitism. everyone is ready to tear apart people that they haven't personally encountered, so it's understandable.

wow, i still have fans? go figure. i figured i was just still doing it for my own benefit X3 are there more of you?

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Actually I know a few people that visited the crap out of your site back in the day and still look at it for reference nowadays.

[identity profile] alaturk.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
you've gotta be kidding me. someone actually uses it as reference? i mean, i paid it a lot of lip-service to it back then, and still now, but i never actually thought anyone CARED. all i get now is people wanting porn and pictures of their shitty turks cosplay that i put on my site to point out (usually) how careless they are with it. mismatched suits make me cry, really.

wow. i think you just made my fandom-day. sweet. and apparently, you know my girlfriend. iiiiiit's a small world aaaaaafter aaaaaaall~

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I do? Who is she? Good LORD it's tiny on the internet.

[identity profile] alaturk.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
that's what SHE said. IM me and we'll chat. i'm renoalaturk on AIM and renoalaturk@hotmail.com for MSN.

(Anonymous) 2007-03-04 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
there is no way to tell who wrote shit first and presuming is rather arrogant.

I agree with you, I was put off by how it was worded too.

[identity profile] alaturk.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
oh, agreed wholeheartedly. at this point, it's just a habit of constantly dealing with people who have only played DoC and/or seen AC. a lot of them think they invented the fandom and the older fans tend to get defensive of that, which, to other older fans, comes across as horribly, horribly arrogant. it's just a misconception and i think it's all been glossed over nicely now. huzzah for mediation!

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Again, fuck DoC. And not just its horrid plotline with its fucking stupid character dynamics between Vincent, Hojo, and Lucrecia and craptastic voice acting, but its shitty gameplay with ten billion invisible walls, crappy sniper handling, downright retarded AI, and TWO ENEMY CHARACTER DESIGNS IN THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME.

[identity profile] alaturk.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
there were a lot of LITTLE TINY DETAILS that i liked about it and it at least tried to be more cohesive than say, AC. i wanted to kill myself for the voice acting and i'm having trouble playing ANY 3rd person camera if not for its wonky controls, but overall, i guess i'm glad i actually played it. and, y'know. didn't pay for it.

HAY BAYBEE FANCY SEEING YOU HURR

Conversations like this are why I tend to lay low and don't participate in fandom except to RP some. I hide from the oldie fans because I'm not one and I don't want to have to explain myself. Granted, another part of the reason I don't play in the fandom sandbox is because I can't write or draw, so. 8D

Ditto on the fucking of Dirge, though, but you know that.

[identity profile] shahrizai.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm grasping at straws, but I see you're part of a community called [livejournal.com profile] 69th_floor, and being an oldbie, does that have anything to do with the old, old fansite? I don't even remember if it was actually called the 69th floor, but I remember the premise was a bunch of Shinra building floors and each one had yaoi fics, yaoi art, info, etc. Damn, memories of old sites are flooding back now. Did you ever hang out with Hojo no Miko?

And just because we're talking about Hojo/Vincent, I shall always be fond of 'The Importance of Dental Hygiene' for a fic name.
