Christmas music right now. Mostly the classical stuff. Especially Ave Maria and Silent Night.

It's sad when women who claim to be feminists see a female character whose intelligence is valued by her male friends and often relied on for help in hard situations, and think she's only being taken advantage of.

I hope when they inevitably make the Cursed Child movies they recast Ginny. I never believed the actress who played her genuinely had fans, it was bluster and bullshit to hit back at anti-Harry/Ginny people and Ginny haters.

73 to be exact.

You know... I'm usually one to say if you like something you should support it. However I am fucking sick and tired of every damn streaming site requiring paid subscriptions instead of just having one catch-all (like netflix seems to be the one most people agree on).

I don't wanna pay $10 a month for various streaming services when I usually only wanna watch one thing from them.

Also fuck all the streaming services that don't have a way to disable auto renewal. I remember some having it but they just completely got rid of it so that they can still get cash from people forgetting about their subscription. Fuck this entire system.

Sure, I'm not saying that you should ignore any aspect of the text. But I think keeping in mind the metaphor is crucial to understanding what is happening. even on that level, it's not really a functional relationship - the fact that Angel becomes a total piece of shit after they sleep together is really important to what is going on in the fiction. I'm just saying that the 200-year age gap maybe isn't that central and doesn't need to be taken exclusively literally.

May be the same sentiment as your secret, but 4 was made by me last week with no knowledge of your secret.

Re: Just curious... do you think your parents were/are good parents?

[personal profile] philstar22 2018-12-05 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. Honest. They were good in some ways, but really bad in others. And I have a hard time telling. But no, I wouldn't be friends with them if they weren't my parents. I don't have too many conservative friends.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If you were my parent I'd probably kill myself.

Metal. Especially Sabaton.

And you also did the semi-transparent box with white text outlined in black like so many of the secrets this week?

There's an easy trick to finding what you want. It's called reading real summaries and reviews instead of rants by people who never watched anything since their high school anime club.

If I could get away with torrenting, I would. Our internet now blocks torrenting and also blocks unknown IPs. So I can't even use a VPN. I do download things, though, when I can find them. 2ddl is good for finding things.

I try that but it turns out that a lot of anime fans have learned to just ignore panty shots and high school dating plot lines or fetishism. Or actually just like them.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I just think their relationship was never properly set up. I always had a feeling that it was coming but by the time Harry first shows any interest in her it still felt too abrupt, and then it sorta falls to the wayside in favor of the actual plot of the books.

Then again, I think Rowling is just not that good at writing that sort of thing. Not Rowling bashing or anything, I still like the books, I just don't think she did a good job on this particular part of them.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I will grant that the age gap is among the least of anyone's worries in this relationship. It's still a bit of a doozy even on its own, though, because regardless of human or vampire years, he is still a LOT older than her, and a big part of their dynamic was him wanting this teenage girl to somehow save him from his accumulated life problems. 'Skeevy older man wants pure young thing to save him from his sins' isn't the best look on a character either.

I just don't think Rowling can write romance, at all. Even the married couples (James/Lily, Arthur/Molly for example) fell flat for me.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
If I were your parent, I wouldn't care.

Anyways, sorry you are offended I don't think children should be watching R-rated stuff.

Oh for goodness sake. The show is not dying. People are still watching. Doctor Who didn't lose the Christmas slot. They chose to make a New Years special as a fitting symbol of a new era of Doctor Who.

I like Disney content but tbh I'm not sure I want to get their streaming service just for a couple of Marvel shows I might want to watch. It's all gonna become too many fish in the pot very swiftly with all these streaming services.

You not liking a particular Doctor does not equal the show being ruined. Lots of people liked 12, lots of people watched 12, and the show continued on and continues on.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
That's totally reasonable! I do think it's an instance where the literal situation complicates and weakens the metaphor.

Re: There are some pretty dark and dour Greek/Roman myths.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
true. But there is no major downer ending in the same sense as Ragnarok. Ragnarok moves way past dark and dour and into scarily depressing.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this secret was that meme of Ken Jeong squinting to read a tiny piece of paper.
