Agreed.

Or you could, you know, actually be a parent and monitor what they're watching.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I mean. If I can't watch/enjoy a show anymore, that classifies it as being ruined for me. Other people disagreeing with me doesn't change that.

What are the most evil movie villains?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Not suave or fun but actually despicable.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
They rarely if ever tell her they value her intelligence, though, much less her friendship apart from what she does for them. They look to her when they need something, then rarely thank her, then go back to doing whatever they want without actually trying to be a decent friend back to her.

That should be WHO.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Though what would work too.

Re: What music are you loving right now?

I've been playing Muse's Simulation Theory album quite a bit :).

Stay off the North American interpretations. Original sagas and Norse mythology are full of humor, but the jokes are just not understood by most people from the US (or maybe it's just Hollywood that JUST DOESN'T GET IT?). Brits, by comparison, is right at home with Viking humor. It's dark, for sure, but hilarious.

Research Thrymskvida for comparison.

Sorry. This was honestly the biggest/best picture I could find that had all the season 4 cast.

What movie/game/tv trends are you sick of?

Re: Just curious... do you think your parents were/are good parents?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
My dad was a bad parent in a lot of ways and I doubt I would’ve been friends with him, but he wasn’t a total monster. My mom was a good parent in a lot of ways and fucked up badly in others, and I probably would’ve been friends with her. I mostly was friends with her. But she was an addict, mostly of alcohol, her whole life, and my dad became a drug addict and terrifying to be around in the last few years of his life. But neither of them was a bad person. They spent a lot of time and energy helping people.

You don't have kids or have ever been around more than one kid. You can't watch them 24/7.

Commodus in Gladiator. Just an awful, awful person.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. :( I'd really like stuff exploring Hindu mythology. From what I've read the gods are actually really nice to mortals. Like, there's even essentially a reverse Orpheus myth where a wife follows the god of the dead everywhere until he's so moved by her devotion he gives her everything he offered to make her leave him alone and brings her husband back to life, no strings attached.

African myths are sadly ignored too. My memory's fuzzy, but I think there was a story about the first man and the gods were amazed by him and his cow.

I've had the Jaina Warbringers shanty stuck in my head for the past week, so I've been playing that and the music for Azshara's(mainly for the beginning part) on spotify over and over.

Re: Just curious... do you think your parents were/are good parents?

[personal profile] nightscale 2018-12-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they were good. Honestly looking back I really am grateful for how good my home life was growing up, I don't think I'd have done well without that at all.

I partly already consider my dad my friend as well as my father, so yeah I'd certainly get along with him, my mum I like but I think without her being my mother the relationship might be a little more tenuous(we basically have all the same worst aspects as each other so while it's mostly fine when we have blown-up at one another it's never been good).

If I wasn't into nerdy shit however I probably wouldn't be friends with them, but if I was, I think so yeah.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT and this is true, but that's why you have conversations with your kids? I mean, they could just as easily go over to little Adam's house and watch Blade III over there.

Re: Secrets You're Too Lazy to Make

I don't care for Lois McMaster Bujold's heroines. They're... fine, I guess in some otherwise spiffy novels. But they are all a minor variation of super-smart, super-beautiful, and super-classy, whose only bad decision is trusting a male idiot. If they make her happy to write then I'm glad she's having fun.

It's just that she *could* be writing...

Cheerful airhead girls who are actually pretty competent and super loyal like Ivan;

Elusive, tricksy, secretly sad girls like Byerly;

Wrecked and incandescent girls like Miles.

I WANT WRECKED AND INCANDESCENT

*cough*

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
that classifies it as being ruined for me

Key words being 'for me'. You no longer got enjoyment from this show, and that's cool. The show itself was not ruined. The history of DW was not ruined. Nor was the future of DW ruined when a new Doctor came along.

I'm cool with people not liking certain Doctors. A lot of it comes down to preference, and that's a huge varying field. But acting like the whole show is ruined because YOU no longer find it enjoyable to watch is stupid.

I don't think the long hair is coming back, but maybe some middle ground? The current look is just too short. I'd like to see him grow it out a little.

This.

I mean, they've all saved each others' lives multiple times (they rescued her from a troll, they used her research about petrification to figure out the CoS thing). Just because they didn't help HER academically doesn't mean they were not good friends (barring the tiffs they ALL had with each other - Ron and Harry anyone?) or that they weren't grateful for her help?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt, depends on what you mean by "worked". It worked, in that it moved the plot points the way the writers wanted them to. As for working with the universe and the characters, it's up for debate whether that worked out or not. Hence, OP's secret and commenters agreeing/disagreeing.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, you are so right! I guess the secret is advocating for the plot to advance as it did, with both of them being right to do what they did...?
