Except Rowling married a Harry? And Ron clearly fancied Hermione as far back as CoS?

Except for Rogue One, I didn't even go to the theater for the new ones. I don't have the budget for more than a couple movies out a year, and those are not the ones I choose to see on the big screen.

I could quote the books at you but. fff, go back and reread.

Ron straight up says "I love you Hermione" bc she helps him with homework, Harry and Ron always show their appreciation to her in a way they don't even do to each other except in life or death situations.

I've been on a major nostalgic Kino/Viktor Tsoi kick lately. Also still trying to decide whether or not I like Mumford & Sons Delta album.

Easy modes in video games. THANK YOU GAMES THAT DO THIS!!!

Dear Santa, for Christmas I would like...

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
What do you want for Christmas? What do you think you’ll get? If you don’t celebrate Christmas, what’s on your wishlist?

I hope Pillowfort and Dreamwidth become the preferred new homes of tumblrites in exile, because Instagram and Twitter are even worse for in-depth conversations than tumblr, and Discord seems kind of “secret club” clique-y.

... I sure care a lot for someone who has literally never had any kind of social media account or presence and has had the same email account since I was eleven. Is there a lifetime Anon Lurker Achievement Award?

+1

Dying all the time in games is nothing but frustrating as hell, but even in games I'm really good at, having to spend 3x the time fighting every enemy I come across is only ever going to feel like a waste of time to me.

Re: Just curious... do you think your parents were/are good parents?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
well, my parents divorced when i was eight, so...

my mum; on the one hand she was a single mum trying to work a job and raise two kids who spent forever struggling in the face of adversity, and i respect her efforts and achievement on those grounds (even if it did mean virtually abandoning the two of us to more or less our own devices for at least three years)... but ultimately i almost think she was somebody who was beaten down by it eventually, especially with regard to her subsequent choice of partner, and i think i'd respect her even more if she'd come out stronger for it all than weaker

friends? no chance - except for biology, we have literally nothing in common; there's no shared interests or experiences, no real level on which we can communicate, nothing more than "hi, how's work, how's the other side of the planet (she emigrated a few years back, which is a story in itself), okay i'll speak to you again in another ten years" after which nothing will have changed

my dad; i love him dearly, but i've seen the way he's dealt with other kids; his own by his next partner, her previous kids, the kids of his next partner after that, the kids they subsequently adopted... and honestly, he's not that great at parenting - he's got me and my sister pushing 40, and my half brother pushing 30, and there's numerous other kids, and somehow he's managed to never spend much time dealing with any of us through the ages of about 12 through 17, and on the few occasions that he has it's never ended well; on top of that he's also looking to have his own bit of breathing space, particularly as he gets older, and dealing with kids isn't something he's enjoying or wanting to do

but friends-wise, we get on great; pretty much the exact opposite of my mother in that we can talk into the small hours about everything and nothing, we've got shared interests, shared ideas, things in common, things we can actually have fun with and talk about

Nayrt - Miles is a glorious mess of a human being. He makes the most incredible plans, and maybe some of them go up like firework factories, but gods what a sight.
And then, of course, some of them *work*.
Also, in the first chapter of his first book, he broke both his legs for the sake of pride. So y'know. He's quite a character.

the weyland yutani corporation from aliens

I think there's some variation, but yeah. Ekaterin isn't quite from the same mold as Cordelia and Fawn is even more different. But clearly the author's heart is in writing male characters, and they have a rich, delightful variety her female characters lack.

I think they were good parents but they don't really "get" me; I have Asperger's and in many ways I'm very, very different from them personality-wise.

In the context of the series, raised with crippling, painful health problems in a culture which idolises health and beauty, brilliant, constantly trying to live up to the standards he thinks his hypercompetent parents have set, boiling with a charm honed by years of childhood stuck having to ask people to do things for him...

As an adult, prone to getting stuck with weird and dramatic problems, finding weird and wonderful solutions, and occasionally starting cultural forest fires.

If Richard III were a sweet boy honestly doing his best, you would have something like Miles Vorkosigan.

when the two main characters hate eachother at first and then suddenly love eachother. for no reason.

There are no Nazis in Star Wars. Nazism is a very specific ideology that doesn't exist in the GFFA.

Cat toys, Amazon gift cards, and bath bombs.

I like her design. I haven't seen nearly as many disparaging comments about Sheila as I did with Elora--I think one went something like "wow, Elora went full on bush-out".

I've been reading romanticized teen/adult stories for almost 15 years now and like someone once said, you'll have to pry them from my dead cold hands

I don't know what it was about the Ragnarok haircut (I think CH is attractive with short hair in other movies), but I really disliked it. Bring back the long hair!

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I absolutely loved Twelve, but I'm liking Thirteen very much and the different vibe the show has. It would've been very weird for the show to have the same vibe since Twelve and Thirteen are so different. I tend to tune out the people who have nothing meaningful to contribute to a discussion except to say that Thirteen and her companions suck. They just suck the fun out of fandom.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm one of those fans who doesn't really comment in Doctor Who spaces. I love both Twelve and Thirteen and just want to have a meaningful discussion about the show, not just rant about which one's better.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Emphatically disagree. Thor 3 was the best he's ever looked as that character, and it's 90% because of the haircut.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, good ol' Greek/Roman mythos, where a woman was cursed/turned into a monster for daring to be raped in Athena's temple and other bullshit like that.
