Re: What are some nostalgic smells for you?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Weirdly enough... tar. Cause when we were on vacation at the North Sea, there used to be a sea wall coated with it (it's not like this anymore) and it used to smell or, well tar, when it was hot outside and we children used to just lie on there after a bath in the sea cause it was warm.

Sure. Presumably, that would involve disagreeing with one or the other of the things I said.

The older I get, the sadder Susan's story is to me. With Talia, she will never know if she felt something for the true Talia or if the PsiCorps plant was just manipulating her, and Marcus is just a giant "what if" in her life.

I was so put off by that! I had already kind of broken up with the show in my heart based on other things, but her going from being staunchly child-free to having a baby at ALL, let alone then being more maternal, felt like such a betrayal of the character to me. (Other shows write around a pregnant actress when they don't want to write a pregnant character, just saying-- or she could have agreed to be someone's surrogate if they didn't want to shoot around it, and still not wanted children for herself)

As a child-free person-with-a-uterus, nothing really turns me off faster than every woman having to have a 'oh but I DO want a baby' story?? I like those stories when it makes sense for the character to want that, just like I support friends and relatives who have or want kids, but it's okay to not want them.

OP that's so cute. (and aaah I'm always happy to see a secret for one of my fave books!)

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
not OP but I love this comment

I don't think you can judge how they would treat women as adults by what you see when they're kids who are being forced to grow up too fast by a war, thereby NOT getting normal socialization during their later teens. They both have SO much room to grow between seventeen and thirty.

I think there are definitely times when they treat girls badly, but it's not indicative of who they are or mean to be-- there's not a teenage boy on the planet who doesn't sometimes treat the girls/women in his life badly, just as there's not one who doesn't sometimes treat his male friends badly, because part of growing up is learning how to treat people and how to be in charge of your emotions so that you can behave better to people. Harry and Ron also treat each other poorly sometimes, but it doesn't mean they aren't good friends in the end, it means they're CHILDREN who are going through things no child should have to go through, who are emotional and sometimes dumb.

And Harry treats Luna better than most people, honestly?? We see Ron grow into a person who treats Hermione better! We see him make mistakes, and learn from them, and sometimes he goes back to being laddish for a while. For that matter, Hermione is not the perfect friend, either, Hermione is not immune to acting on her emotions without thinking about others. But as a girl, she's forced to live to a different standard from a much younger age, and so there are fewer instances-- not because she's inherently a better friend or human being, but because of how boys and girls are socialized, and also how each individual kid out of the trio has been socialized prior to Hogwarts!

Oooh, that would have been SO good.

Being an adult is hard

I just paid half my property taxes today (~$117 more than I make in a month, oof) and now I want to reward myself by buying Christmas presents for myself (and my tiny remaining family and one friend and a couple coworkers because I like finding good gifts for people) but I just spent $240 at the vet over the last couple weeks (and I have to soak my poor silkie chicken’s foot abscess and change her bandages and would like six extra hands) and have other bills to pay.

My house is old and in need of extensive, expensive repairs and new appliances and paint. Blah. I’m a long way from starving in a gutter even if I do buy a bunch of presents, but I hate feeling like most of the stuff I enjoy doing (buying non-essential stuff, eating junk food, most of my hobbies) makes me an irresponsible time/money waster.

I was always surprised by the lack of more Marcus/Susan fic. I mean, people seemed to write more of him and Franklin? Just because they pretended to be married? I agree with you about the bi thing for Susan.

More kinky slave boys, please. Agreed that it'd be hotter as slash but femdom isn't entirely unacceptable, either.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the first season so much, even with all of its ridiculousness, and was so excited to watch the second season. I even like Mon-el when he first showed up--dumbass comic relief side characters are my jam! But as the season went on, it just got more and more uncomfortable as the "relationship" progressed from nothing to something all-encompassing and at times downright nasty.

When the season started so well but ended with Kara crying, alone, about her boyfriend of a few months, it just made me feel sick.

Re: Spotify has released their top 100 songs you have listened to this year.

We like so many of the same songs that I'm going to listen to some of the ones in your list I haven't heard because I think I'll like them, too. :)

Been on a Glitter and Gold kick for like the past week, lol.

AYRT—I don’t like Kylo Ren, and that’s putting it mildly. But at least part of the reason is the films did a piss-poor job of fleshing out his character and history, including what Snoke’s abuse entailed. Kylo throws a lot of tantrums, idolizes Darth Vader, and in TLJ Snoke is a smug patronizing fucker to him. I’m predisposed to woobify and sympathize with villains, and even I was repulsed rather than intrigued by Kylo. If he was supposed to be sympathetic he should’ve had more to him than brooding and tantrums, and the films should’ve shown Snoke being a better puppeteer and worse creeper.

Glitter and Gold is sooo good.

*tiny hop over unrolling carpet*

“Call today!”/“Click or call today!”

Hard same. Starbuck was a gift.

Re: A major flaw of the prequels...

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Whereas Natalie Portman often has very little sexual chemistry with anyone. Great character actress, yes, but really sucks at anything portraying romantic relationships.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
My main issue is that we mostly get told about Snoke's influence on Kylo but never really shown. And that's never a good thing.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
If they'd spent twenty minutes less on dumb "let's free these critters even though it doesn't make any sense" scenes and used that to actually show how he got into Kylo's head...

Awesome! I'm especially excited for Krennic because I think he's really interesting.

Re: How early do you wake up in the morning?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I wake up around 5:20, because I have to be at work at 6am most days. (I have a uniform and I don’t eat breakfast so I don’t need much time to get ready)

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

It's nothing to do with Sackoff's looks or acting, both of which are great... but her character on Longmire is such a hot mess I don't find that attractive at all.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-07 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Which I do, and stated as such from the very beginning.
