Stargate Atlantis secret

I'm glad Rachel Luttrell 's pregnancy derailed the John/Teyla relationship they were heading for. It would have been lame and clichéd and neither actor wanted it. Instead we got a brilliant storyline where John had to shelve his disappointment and they stayed good friends. I can't think of another sci-fi series where that happens.

Oh hey, funny coincidence: I'm rewatching SGA and I reached that part of the show today.

I liked the idea of John/Teyla but tbh I am very glad that they didn't go the whole 'we had sex one-time off-screen and the baby is ours!' route and instead had it be another man. It was still off-screen and kinda clunky but it's easier to handwave her having been with a character we haven't seen than her and John hooking up randomly.

And I can agree that having John be slightly bummed but move past it to simply be supportive of her was great, they were always really good friends tbh and I loved how much they cared for one another.

I'm with you. That was one of the few good decisions of the later Atlantis stuff. John/Teyla would not have worked.

yes, I'm a godamn fandom gatekeeper
my invovlment in fandom is serious business
and I don't take well casual fans barging in despite spoilers warnings and commenting on how they don't get the point of my fic because they don't care enough to get all the necessary facts from canon beforehand

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to post

(Anonymous) 2019-01-19 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
what's the actual harm being done?

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to post

I tend to think of fandom gatekeepers more as people who tell other people what they can/can't do?

That is an incredibly stupid way to be about fic, wth. If you don't know enough about the fandom to know details, plot arcs, etc, then you need to not bitch about stuff that would be obvious if you took five minutes to watch/read up on. Raaawr.

Re: Secrets you're too lazy to post

Being annoyed at people bumbling into a fic (or an active discussion) and whining about how they don't get it because they're not caught up on canon isn't what people are talking about when they complain about fandom gatekeeping.

Interrogating anyone who says they're a fan of something because you clearly can't be a fan unless you've not only consumed all the canon, kept up with every piece of peripheral canon, and watched or read all the creator interviews, but also have an encyclopedic knowledge of the aforementioned is what people are talking about when they complain about fandom gatekeeping.

I have recently realized that Larry Bundy Jr's voice makes me happy. I don't know why, I don't find it particularly beautiful or funny, but hearing him say "hello, you" is enough to cheer me up.

You can't understand how people can have a different opinion from you? That's really weird, honestly.

I wish I could wave a magic wand to make myself like the same fandoms/characters/ships as everyone else instead of liking obscure unpopular shit.

I actually wish western fandoms could adopt a ship naming convention like Japan's side does. i.e.: Sasunaru vs. Narusasu. The same pairing, yes! But sometimes I do want to read Naruto topping, and I'd like to not have to waste time sifting through the entire body of works for the pairing to find those.

I have my first RPF ship and it's...weird. I keep treating them like they're fictional and analyzing things they say and trying to figure out what it all means and it's frustrating because there's not always some deeper meaning. They're just people and sometimes they say dumb stuff or word things wrong or don't make their meaning clear because there's not someone writing their words, and I need to not read so much into things.

thor ragnarok wasn't that good, it was just really fun so everyone ignored how zany the plot was and how no emotional moment actually stuck because we gotta add jokes every 5 seconds! the valkyrie flashback is absolutely stunning but that's the only good bit in the movie, the rest of it is just wacky adventures that are shallow and empty.

it did make me check out the director's other work however as i did like the humor and i figured i might like it more outside of the context of a character i care about. and i did! so ragnarok did give me something good at least.

I really liked Clippit. He was my faithful quirky companion up on Mount Homework. I want him back. I've been looking for some sort of plugin that will add him to newer versions of Word. I can't find any.

Random, but every time I see someone try to paint Mother Gothel as a good example of the "Loves her kid; still abusive" trope, I cringe. First, Gothel's not a good example of that trope. Sure, she's got the manipulative parent thing down, but there's really no indication in the movie that she sees Rapunzel as much more than a living, breathing Fountain of Youth. Second, not only is she not a good example of that trope, she's not even the best example based on the Rapunzel story. The Witch in Into the Woods nails it.

Last night I had a dream where Stephen Colbert and Craig Ferguson were guests on a talk show. They were acting flirty toward one another and ended up grinding on one another against the house band's piano just for the lulz. Craig acted the part of the top and Colbert was very receptive. By the end they were both flushed and panting and had a glass of water thrown on them to cool off.

The mental image of them both flushed with their shirts soaked through has got me hotter than anything - fandom or other wise - in years. Now I can't get the ship out of my head and there is literally no fan material available to fuel my need.
