I completely and unironically fucking love this film. It's such a hokey popcorn flick but the side characters are heartwarming and hilarious, and Angelina put SO much depth and personality in her Lara. As a small aside, Angelina's take on the classic Lara walking animation was so powerful without being overtly sexual that I started imitating it. It still gives me confidence to break out that Lara power walk.

So I was well aware of being bi-ro. Looking at that picture made me question why I even bother with men. Googled to see more and holy mother of all things good, I need to see this movie. For science. Okay, mostly for boobs.

One of my favourite science parts is naked Daniel Craig. This movie has all the science for my bi ass.

I remember I wanted to be her. I was already a fan of the games but this film was a solidification of "wow, I wish this was my life and want to imagine it is!" for teenage me. It was the combination of history/archaeology geekery and badass adventures that did it.

I just love that something that was meant to be so (straight) male gaze-y has all these stories where that actually wasn't the case at all. Most of the people I knew who played the games were actually women for example.

I agree with this. Classic Lara's hypersexualised character design was so at odds with the amount of agency and proaction her story encompassed, especially for the time period. I loved that the original game also had a female villain. There were really no men of consequence in that entire plot apart from maybe Lara's butler and a few slightly higher level mooks.

You know, I LOVE classic Lara in all her depictions from The fist game, through the topcow comics, and both Movies. I even loved Angel of Darkness, although I acknowledge there are some issues with the game design, her character was still awesome. So I'd love this to stay a thread talking about how excellent classice Lara was...

But people reminding me of Angelina Jolie in Hackers have done some of the gods works here. She was SO hot in that. Good gods.

And since I'm departing from Lara to sing the praises of Ms Jolie... She was about the only worthwhile thing in the entirety of Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow.

I've watched that film several times, and I can promise you there's not a damn thing in that movie that I enjoy, NOT. ONE. DAMN. THING. Other than the bits with Franky Cook. Most of that film has this weird effect of making me feel - literally - slightly nauseated. I can't explain why, maybe the camera work, maybe the filter, maybe the atrocious main characters... it just does something to my head or my eyes, or... I dunno. But I endure it for her badass air ship commander. The accent, the leather uniform, the eye patch, the way Jolie acted it with playful touch to an otherwise deadly serious character... God damn. I would have paid a LOT of money for a spin off movie about Franky Cook.

I feel you on this, OP. I've always had a bit of a girlcrush on Angelina Jolie and this shot reminds me of why! My "I think I'm into girls as well as guys" awakening was courtesy of Lucy Lawless as Xena, so I can relate. Not to mention, the whole "girls with guns" thing turns my gears. So.. yeah. All this to say, we share similar tastes, so you're not alone.
