Your problem sounds less like you're a serial killer, and more like you're surrounded by either extremely sensitive souls or holier-than-thou pearl clutching hypocrites to me. I think most normal people would want to hurt, idk, someone who tortures puppies for fun. I'm not gonna go do it, most people wouldn't really go do it, but I'd be more weirded out by someone who didn't at least want to or didn't think they deserved a punch in the face, than someone who did.

We all also manage to control those feelings and not do all the things we want to do, for obvious reasons. That's perfectly normal.

I'd guess the reason people think you're trying to be edgy isn't because nobody else ever wants to hurt people, it's this: "Hee hee you could pass by me on the street and ~never notice~ average old unassuming me, the ~potential sociopath~, which just how I LIKE it! *rubs hands together villainously, twirls mustache*" It really sounds like you'd enjoy being ~different. I don't think you are, though.

I think there's somewhat of a distinction to be made between wanting to hurt someone, and wanting them to *suffer*. Not sure which side OP falls onto, but, yeah.

Lots of people do want others to suffer though, depending on what they've done. I don't find it weird and sociopathic for someone to want, for example, a child abuser to suffer.

I'd absolutely find it weird if they made it their mission to go and make it happen personally.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. A child abuser has caused other people to suffer so it's not that odd to feel like they should experience suffering in return. What would be weird would be, like you said, actually going out and doing it.

I'm not particularly into watching people suffer.

Yeah, the part that's cringey is the part you inserted, though?

This.

The problem with the guy in this episode, though, was that he didn't just feel that way about the kinds of people mentioned above. He didn't understand how somebody didn't want to hurt people in general, whether or not they'd done anything to deserve it. That is a valid thing to be concerned about, I think.

And then, of course, he acted on those violent urges as well.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, OP mentions desiring or wishing they could do it to people that they "feel deserve it," not random/all people. I was trying to point out that most people do think the same things about people they "feel deserve it," whoever they happen to be.

If they said "everyone, all the time," then yeah, sounds like intrusive thoughts they might want to get checked out. As-is though, it sounds pretty common.

Well then I guess you'd be weirded out by me. I don't want anyone to be hurt. Suffer consequences? Sure. I think a child abuser or someone who tortures puppies (examples in this thread) should be imprisoned so they can't hurt anyone else, but I don't want to see them suffer. I don't think violence is generally a good solution to pretty much anything.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure? I confirm you did read that correctly, I am indeed more weirded out by you, someone who doesn't think that abusers deserve a punch in the face.

Whether violence is helpful or an effective solution to anything is a wholly separate question to whether you find someone deserving of a punch or not.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-25 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not alone Anon. This is exactly how I feel and I don't understand how anyone could wish harm on any on else no matter what they've done.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-25 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
JSYK, this does not make you a better person than those who can, though you seem to think it does.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-26 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's really not hard to understand, though?

Someone does a horrible thing that causes a great amount of harm to someone else. People think that it's only fair that this person experiences the same amount of suffering that they inflicted on an innocent person.

Pretty much, yeah. If you catch yourself narrating your own actions in your head and the phrase "Little did they suspect" pops in there, you just might be an edgelord.

Sorry, replied to the wrong comment. I don't see where OP is being as gleeful and over the top about it in the actual text of the secret.

Er, no? I didn't use that tone at all. I like being unnoticed because I'm shy and feel socially awkward around people. I can fake it if I have to, but prefer not to. I AM different. Everyone is unique in their own way. There's no cachet to being different.
