I heard it on the radio driving home from work, and I swore out loud. I love Jeopardy, and I know how bad stage 4 cancer is, especially pancreatic cancer. It's so upsetting.

Man, pancreatic sucks donkey balls. I mean, all cancer sucks, but pancreatic is like, "Hi, you have cancer! Aaaaand, you're dead."

Aw, geez, and pancreatic is the one that's like a 98% mortality rate, even. :( Fuck cancer.

Shitty news. Wishing him well going forward with this.

Normally even with celebrities I like when something bad happens to them I'm sad but it's still in a sort of detached way, like I care but I don't cry or anything. But I am honestly, legitimately upset hearing about this. I really love Alex Trebek and I've been watching Jeopardy since I was a little kid. I don't think I've been this upset by a celebrity's health issues since Jim Henson died. I know it's a long shot but I really hope he can get through this ):

How was your day?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2019-03-06 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I just spent an hour and a half at the dentist getting some fillings redone. The dentist said if I still have pain, I may need a root canal. :( Which, I won't be able to afford until my dental insurance rolls over next year.

What did you do today?

Re: How was your day?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-07 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I told my mother I'm consideringing having a baby. She was happy, as I understand mothers often are, but it was a pretty intense confession to make for me.

Went to the ophthalmologist. Paid $150 for tear duct plugs, hoping they'll help with my extreme dry eye and corneal erosion. Right now they just feel uncomfortable and scratchy, and I'm kind of worried about it.

Got four hours sleep. Came home. Accidentally napped for another three hours. Now I won't be able to sleep tonight and will have to go to work on no sleep tomorrow.

Having a minor pity party. Need ice cream and fanfic.

OKAY. SO.

First, I found out that one of the Fandom Trumps Hate auctions I lost (and the one I wanted the most, and the one with the closest loss - I was outbid in the last sixty seconds of the auction)? The winning bidder defaulted! They didn't contact the organisers with proof of their donation within the allotted time, so it went to me! :D :D :D

Then.
THEN.

The other week, my job service agency (the people who are supposed to help me find work, and tell the government I'm looking for work, so the government will keep giving me my unemployment money, and I can keep paying my rent) signed me up for an online course in something I'm actually interested in, and that is relevant to work I want to do.
Yesterday, I went to do some of the course work, and found I couldn't access the course, and it marked me as "Withdrawn".
Today I went into my JSA, and found that the government office in charge of all the social welfare programs, Centrelink, deleted me from their system! Which had the knock-on effect of removing me from the course they'd signed me up for.
Of course, Centrelink didn't bother telling me OR my JSA what they'd done, and now I have to go through all the application process all over again, and by the time I'm done I might not be able to rejoin the course.

So I sort of want to set everything on fire.
Just... everything. In the w o r l d.

Ouch, I'm sorry you had to endure that! How's the pain at the moment?

I worked, got stopped on the way home by a guy asking for money. He said "all his stuff" had been taken a "few minutes ago" but he had two full suitcases + a guitar with him, and kept pressing me for money. I said I didn't carry cash and he said "well can you go get some then?"

I advised him to go to the police station if he'd been robbed (and offered to walk him there), he said he'd already been (...but it was a 30+ minute walk away?) I'll happily give someone change for a cab/coffee or whatever but he was so vague and didn't say why he needed it, and got shitty with me when I said I couldn't help. I'm feeling guilty now but my gut was saying it was dodgy.

Worked late, stopped at the grocery on the way home, and now I'm just hanging around waiting for my dinner to cook. After I eat I'm gonna watch TV for a bit, then probably read until bed. And I'm excited to sleep in tomorrow since I'm off work. :D

Started out not so great. Had court this morning, and it was really crowded. I had to park several blocks away and walk in the cold and then stand in line for a long time just to go through security. By the time I got to the office, my hip was really irritated and I was limping.

Ended up pretty good, though. My parents talked me into going to an Ash Wednesday service with them and then out to eat. I put on one of those heat patches, and that helped. We went to Red Lobster for dinner, and I had two mai tais, which somehow has made the pain go away more than anything else has. Not sure if alcohol is actually supposed to act as a pain killer, but it has for tonight, so I'll take it.

A heating pad. I love cuddling with it in bed.

Some dark chocolate or hot chocolate.

My cat. Even when I've had the worst day, I come home and just look at her and everything feels just a little better. She's everything to me.

Best Batman Comic

(Anonymous) 2019-03-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
What's the best Batman comic run? I'm not talking one-offs or anything like that.

Which writers do you think writes Bats the best and why? What do you look for in a Batman story?

I tried N52 and it was... no thanks. Haven't touched Rebirth yet.

I'm looking for some good Bats stories! I've only ever really enjoyed BtaS - the comic versions (that I've read) haven't done much for me.
