Ever heard MM speak? He's a pretty smart guy and, yes, he's notable.

Re: Is being against the male gaze sex negative?

I disagree with your main premise: sexual attraction being inherently objectifying. I'm now wondering if you're confused on what objectifying is, or if you're just a creepy person. 50/50 odds.

To answer your title question, no. Being against the male gaze is not sex negative.

Re: Fanfic Writers! How would you feel if someone posted a comment to tell you about a typo?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I might be a bit disconcerted if someone leaves a comment about ONLY the typo 'like, what, was that the only thing that mattered?' but I love it when people point out my typos so I can fix it otherwise!

Kink thread

Talk about your kinks in fiction.

God, right? I'd pretty much kill to get that face between my thighs. He just has the aura of someone who'd be a slow, mindbending fuck.

Re: Fanfic Writers! How would you feel if someone posted a comment to tell you about a typo?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've come across things like "for all intensive purposes" in fic and knew that, surely, the author honestly thought that's the way it should be written, and maybe they have a beta who thought that, too, but if I point it out, they're gonna be soooo embarrassed and I am a Midwesterner and can't do that to people and OH GOD WHAT TO I DO?

So I say nothing and slink away.

As a bi female, I love the male gaze and would hate for it to go away. The solution is start doing it to men too, don't stop doing it to women.

The transformative public domain defense collapses the moment people start charging money for it, and it's sites like AO3 that will get into legal trouble over it.

D/s where everyone is nice and taking care of each other. Just, if there is D/s and praise involved, I'm in.

femdom in general.

Threesomes and moresomes where everyone plays with everyone.

semi-one sided sex where one of the people involved is being focused on and taken care of. Doesn't matter to me which person.

Consensual, enthusiastic tentacle sex.

Bondage.

D/s where the sub is the one with more experience and the one with the ideas. Almost never see this, but when i do find it, it's my favorite thing.

Laughing because he's not exactly known for treating women well. In fact, one of his exes just recently spoke out about an abusive relationship she was in years ago, strongly implying that it was him.

Sexual attraction, to me at least, is romanticizing aspects of a person because you want to bang them. Objectification is the extreme form of this, but all sexual attraction has an element of it. There's other components to a healthy relationship and relationship based solely on sexual attraction is not a healthy one.

Even worse: You get the notification for a new update on a fanfic you loved but that you already kind of resigned to being abandoned because it hadn't been updated in months or even years and you get all excited and then... the "new chapter" turns out to be the author telling people they've abandoned the fic.
Like, really? You think the fact you didn't update for 3 years didn't get the point across? Just put that in a note in your fic summary or at the end of the last chapter you uploaded!

gonna copypasta my reply: "Sexual attraction, to me at least, is romanticizing aspects of a person because you want to bang them. Marilyn Manson in 2009 on his breakup with Evan Rachel Wood:

"My walls were covered in scrawlings of the lyrics and cocaine bags nailed to the wall. And I did have an experience where I was struggling to deal with being alone and being forsaken and being betrayed by putting your trust in one person, and making the mistake of that being the wrong person.... And every time I called her that day -- I called 158 times -- I took a razorblade and I cut myself on my face or on my hands.

"I look back and it was a really stupid thing to do. This was intentional, this was a scarification, and this was like a tattoo. I wanted to show her the pain she put me through. It was like, 'I want you to physically see what you've done.' It sounds made up but it's completely true and I don't give a shit if people believe it or not. I've got the scars to prove it."

Calling your ex 158 times in a day to tell her you're physically abusing yourself. There's a man who knows non-abusive, healthy relationships with women for sure. Worth listening to.

This is a very old opinion and entirely a strawman. I've never known an individual who says "I don't like female characters because they're not interesting" and while at the same time loving and fleshing out flat male characters. Some people say "I don't like female characters because they're not interesting," while some other people love and flesh out flat male characters, but I've never known a person who does both.

Re: Johnny Depp

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Did you uh... skip over the I look back and it was a really stupid thing to do.?

SA

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
And that's also ignoring that plenty of people love and flesh out flat female characters as well.

Re: Johnny Depp

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think "stupid" really speaks to the depth of how abusive and hurtful the stuff he's describing is.

And, I mean, this was when he was 40.

I thought it worked

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I can see your point, but I thought it worked as a reflection of her self esteems issues and wanting to just disappear. But then, I may have over identified with Vanya and that was something I definitely did back in the day. And I still tend to lean towards big baggy clothes and layers when I'm having a bad day and just want to disappear.

Re: Of the second deadly sins, which do you think is the worst?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm torn between greed and pride because while greed is probably the worst outright, I think greed is often rooted in pride and it's easier to be prideful but not greedy that the other way around. On the flip side, pride is like a kind of greed - greed of the ego and not so much material things.

Of the virtues, I would say the best is patience, since I think that implies tolerance for others, which is at the root of things like true kindness and compassion, and at the root of justice.

Guy in a shitty mental place, cutting himself and possibly on drugs admitting publicly it was a stupid thing to do.

Yeah, how awful.
*rolls eyes*

Re: Of the second deadly sins, which do you think is the worst?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Dunno, but when you really think about it sloth is a form of patience.

Re: Johnny Depp

(Anonymous) 2019-03-18 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously?

Why on earth should we cut a 40-year-old slack for not having learned that it's wrong to call your ex 158 times in a day while cutting yourself? Let alone actively listen to his opinions on abuse?
