Re: White Male Characters who fandom hates

Does Thor have hate? I don't think so....

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Most male characters in canons fandom latch onto are straight and white. Female fans are more likely to like than hate straight white male characters. The wall of text you pulled out of your ass is a giant stinking pile of bullshit.

Do you believe in the supernatural?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
If so, what parts?

A lot of people love Castiel, what’s your point?

I was never MCU related fandoms, but I definitely saw bashing posts about Thor on my dash from fandom friends. Usually by Loki fans though so I don't know how widespread it actually was?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah this was my thought too. If he wasn't white, the fandom would either ignore him or just hate him even more.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
i'm sorry you think that he'd be better liked if he was a woman or poc? bc my experience in fandoms across the years would lead me to believe the exact opposite.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
ikr?

has the op even seen how fandoms act when a female or non-white character dares to have human emotions? they get fucking crucified, and it's even worse if those characters are 'getting in the way' of the fandom-fave ship.

oh thor absolutely gets hate, there are plenty of loki-fans who think that everything loki has done is the result of thor being a horrible, abusive brother who literally beat him for years!!

it's... something else tbh.

I don't think "people hate this ship" really counts as "people hate this character"

Cyclops from X-Men. Nobody likes Cyclops.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Plus, only looking at whether or not white male characters are hated doesn't give you a basis to compare against

This is true. Which characters get the largest volume of hate, and which characters get the most hate proportionately, are probably always going to be opinions based on each individual's experiences and perceptions. (I mean, theoretically a survey could be conducted. But it could hardly be comprehensive.)

Yeah, I always pictured her as pretty, but just maybe in a somewhat unconventional way.

I didn't know people hated Edmund. I thought they mostly hated Fanny. But that may have been the discussion group I was in, which wasn't very representative of the rest of fandom.

(And now that you mention it Edmund is kind of a dick.)

I don't believe in any parts of the supernatural, pretty categorically.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Does one of your fandoms involve a secretary, or did you just like the picture?

Re: Best fandom faker stories

Tbh it's getting increasingly hard for me to laugh at people using the Internet to try out new gender identities for being "fakers"

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Er, how about the "face put together hurriedly" part? That says "Mrs. Potato Head" to me, haha.

AYRT - Yeah, I didn't include Loki because he's a villain. Same reason I didn't include Kylo Ren. With villains it's pretty tough to distinguish between people hating a character the way canon encourages them to, and people hating a character for personal reasons.

I mean, Kylo gets a LOT of hate, but then he also deserves a lot of hate. I do think a lot of people hate Kylo with an extra level of intensity, because on a personal level they just can't stand him. But I don't think one can reasonably make the argument that Kylo deserves a neutral or positive reaction.

I think that's basically what the description is getting at. The actress they cast is very pretty, but perhaps more conventionally so.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't say model at all to me. That says not conventionally pretty but attractive because of force of personality and liveliness.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-03 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm curious... did you feel the same way about Alison and her checking up on Vanya and Vanya's love interest? She wasn't wrong about the guy (whose name I cannot remember right now) but it kind of rubbed me the wrong way at the time. It was maternalistic in the way that Luther is paternalistic. She and Vanya didn't have that kind of relationship where she could interfere and I agreed with Vanya that it did seem kind of... well, irritating, given the failure of Alison's own marriage.
