163. As a dub fan, I think that's...perfectly fine. Not elitist at all. I'm honestly more of an audiotory person than a visual one--I remember songs I've heard better than paintings I've seen, for example--so dubs are easier for me to follow along. But I can see why other people would think differently. Different people find different things easier.

Sorry, I know dub fans can be jumpy sometimes. XD;; We just hear some really outdated blanket statements a lot when we dare to say we like dubs, so we tend to overreact. Or, well, I know I do at least. So I apologize?

Really, it's weird, I used to put captions on while watching TV all the time...my habits changed, I guess.

157. Not every anime fan has 'frivolous' reasons for wanting to learn Japanese. I'm learning Japanese so I can live in Japan to experience the culture and see historically relevant places, study and perhaps one day teach Japanese history (outside Japan) and work with primary source documents in their original language. And my interest in Japanese history and culture was *gasp* sparked from watching anime.

Honestly, if someone wants to learn a second language, all the power to them. It's a good skill to have. Also, Japanese is not easy. People who aren't committed won't last long. Same for learning any new language. Also, good luck getting hired in the video game industry, I hear they don't much like gaijin.

As someone who got a job because I could speak Japanese, I second the being a good skill to have part. Asian languages in particular can be a huge asset in today's business world, so learning Japanese is actually a pretty good idea if you have any desire to get into international business.
