109- \o/ I agree!

147- That really doesn't sound healthy D: Would it be possible for you to speak to someone about it, like a friend or counsellor? Or to not be so involved in fandom?

152. THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS A THREESOME.

Re: 147

(Anonymous) 2008-09-27 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
When I talked to my shrink about it, she said it was due to the fact that I tend to avoid emotions when it comes to reality. I never cry at funerals and when bad things happen I'd rather ignore them than deal with them. Thus, it all comes out in my fandoms a lot more than it should. It's not healthy, you're right, but at least it's healthier than completely bottling it up until I develop ulcers in my thirties, right?

[identity profile] graziaplena.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
146. Watching his standup and earlier work on "(Un)natural Acts," it seems that Noel was much funnier and more, well, natural when the spotlight wasn't so sharply focused on him. The fawning praise hasn't been good for him. Now Noel still has his moments, but Julian is clearly the engine behind the operation, and it disappoints me that more people don't recognize that.

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
104. The teacher/student dynamic, maybe?
109. DONNA. <3 Agreed. (Then again, I don't have a crush on Ten at all...)
126. Suspenders! :D
145. Oh, you mean the kiddie show and kiddie books?
157. I'm sure none of the other fans who want to learn Japanese have "reasons".
158. Holy crap, they were? I may have to watch it...
162. Getting law students to play Phoenix Wright is hilarious, by the way.
163. Oh man, I desperately need subtitles for British shows--my voice comprehension just sucks.

134 - No, Penny is not in the fridge. -_-

145 - First off--I hope that 'Angel Kenshin' isn't claiming that art as her's, because I know who it really belongs to. Second--um. Fandom isn't restricted to just live action stuff. You may not like it, but it doesn't make it any less of a fandom just because you say so.

153 - Don't feel bad. Tea is bad for you anyway--not that many people would know that, but srsly. Iroh's laid back, don't worry. XD

163 - Subs are hard to read if you're not used to speed-reading, I guess. I don't have a problem with it, and use subs as captions when watching anime during a loud party of sorts. But some people have a hard time with it because if they're reading the subtitles, they miss what's going on in the scene and have to rewind to catch up.

101. I know exactly what you mean. EXACTLY. I'm the same way. Also, when a series ends happily, I lose interest in it almost immediately. I'm a glutton for angst.

128. Haha, me, too! It's kind of embarrassing, actually...but usually the song ends up growing on me, anyway.

[identity profile] teal-deer.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
157. Dude, as someone who wants to get into the gaming industry myself, I can't even begin to tell you how absolutely incorrect you are.

The United States invented videogames, and there's a lot more to American games than Halo and other shooting games. There's gorgeous, evocative puzzle games like Myst; quirky adventure games like Grim Fandango (a sadly dying art) and even RPGs. And not just average RPGs, either; there are games like Planescape: Torment, one of the greatest RPGs ever made.

If you don't like what the US games industry is currently doing, go and change it. Go ahead and make a Japanese-style RPG, but for an American audience. I think that the US market would eat it right up, especially if you addressed some of the big complaints people have about Jap. RPGs (linear storylines, random encounters, etc)

And that's not even getting into international games. Farenheight (Indigo Prophecy) was an incredible game created by a French company; I hear the Germans actually have some pretty interesting games as well...

And before you dismiss all shooters as being stupid and bad, check out Half Life 2, Bioshock (and the inspiration behind Bioshock, System Shock 2) and Portal. Portal isn't even a shooter game; it's a first person puzzle game, and from a design perspective it is a literally perfect game. It is flawless in every regard, and this is coming from someone who is generally very critical of games, even ones I adore. Bioshock, while far from perfect, is a triumph of atmosphere and storytelling.

Seriously. Get out of your little box of jRPGs and go play some US games. you might be surprised at what you find.

[identity profile] teal-deer.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
In fact? I'd go so far as to say that the Japanese market sucks right now. Most games that come out of Japan are horribly repetitive, just repeating the same goddamn theme over and over again without an ounce of innovation. Square? Just releases Final Fantasy games over and over. And they aren't even pretending to make new plots now, they're just re-releasing old FFs. Nintendo? "MOAR MARIO. MOAR ZELDA. THE SAME CRAP OVER AND OVER OMG YAY"
About the only person who's done anything different is Kojima, and his games make so little sense as to hardly matter.
*waits for the flames*

(disclaimer: I'm a huge square fangirl, actually. Huge. I just have no respect for them either. I'm not bitter at their inability to release special editions in the US. not at all...)

108. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I... don't know if I'm more social though, but I am ever so much more openminded these days. Who knew that hanging with people who have contradictory viewpoints would ever cause you to reflect and think about things more, huh?

117. If I were the type to believe that identical opinions would be a viable ground for marriage, I would go down on my knees and propose here and now regardless of whatever gender you may be, but as things stand I think I'm going to settle with being WORD!buddies with you. They have taken what I first viewed as an entertaining show with a big, diverse cast with several people struggling to overcome limitations and find their place in a cold, hard world, and turned it into "The Super Depressing Uchiha Bawwfest Show!" At least Sasuke get's his ass kicked hard before he wins, I like that he doesn't just sweep in and win every battle without bigass amounts of EFFORT but man... I am not interested in his storyline. I am not interested in his revenge. I never payed him much attention before and the redeeming value he used to have, that he did not kill those who weren't his target seems to be gone with the wind now that he's going to kill every single Konoha ninja so they can FEEL HIS PAIN. Cry more. Preferably blood.

125. Oho... now I'm interested in reading that. Any chance you will post it somewhere, or will it remain anonymous forever more?

142. Are those the freaky blood powers from Deadman Wonderland or am I just seeing things?

141. Wait... what?!

152

(Anonymous) 2008-09-27 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? You slash the straightest male character in the entire series and have the nerve to say that other people characterize him badly? Interesting. When you accept that he is the least likely to have a male/male experience, then you can harp on others' characterization of him. Otherwise, I'd say your grasp of his character is far worse than the shippers you claim to hate. KyoHaru is FAR more likely and in-character than KyoTama.

Re: 152

(Anonymous) 2008-09-28 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
-LAUGHS- When will you grasp that it's the dynamics that matter rather than whether a character is straight or not. Kyouya cares about Tamaki enough to try to find his mother for him while in France, to the point of exhausting himself and sleeping on the streets. He's in the Host Club for Tamaki's sake, and manages the accounts despite Tamaki's crazy extravagances and ideas (see Renge episode. Haruhi says it.) He protects Tamaki's reputation at every point. He makes Tamaki look good so Tamaki will be able to go to the main residencce. Tamaki made him cry, and changed his entire life. Who he is now is because of Tamaki. Their bond is shown to be very, very deep.

Tamaki accepts all of Kyouya - he is the only one who recognizes that Kyouya is passionate. He defends Kyouya (see Kuze, at TWO POINTS), and loves him as his best friend despite how 'evil' Kyouya might seem. Tamaki is the only person who sees Kyouya as he truly is.

And what does Haruhi and Kyouya have? A grand old nothing except for maybe her sex. She doesn't understand them - she admits that there is a 'wall'. He hasn't shown a whit of interest in her.

Now tell me, which pairing is more in-character, hmm?

123, 128, and 141

[identity profile] streussal.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
123 - ...why is it always WOMEN'S bodies that "should be appreciated like a work of art"? Not to mention people who say that nearly always mean conventionally attractive women who end up being airbrushed anyways. (I believe that women should be able to display their body how they choose. This includes covering it up.)

128 - I do that too! Oh, fanmixes.

141 - Well. Mama Petrelli is pretty badass. This does increase incest in the fandom - hi, Sylar/Peter and Sylar/Claire. Well, Sylar/Claire is actually creepy for reasons other than the maybe related thing.

Personally, I hope Angela is just screwing with his head.

I don't hate them but I don't care about them (unless they're called Kurosaki, Urahara or Yoruichi) and I'm so damn tired of seeing them goddamn everywhere. Anime fillers, movies, musicals, manga side stories, they're all about shinigami shinigami shinigami. It's like there are no other characters in the show. [/rant]

All the good video games come from Japan? What? :( Is the only genre you like cliché'd JRPGs? Some of the best games of the last few years have come from North America, tbh. I think this is JUST like wanting to move to Japan to be an amazing manga-ka or anime animator. Seriously, look into some of the game studios here. They do some AMAZING work (Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Fable, Portal, GTA, Battlefield... the list goes on). If you want them to make better quality games or games more like the Japanese ones you so adore, go apply for a job with them, work your way up, and try to make changes to our industry. It'll probably take just as much time, you won't have to learn Japanese, and everyone in the English speaking world would be happy because we wouldn't have to wait half a year to get a localized version. :( We'd get it first.

But yeah... Japan is NOT the only country that makes good video games. I honestly think your reason for wanting to move there is barely any different from most weeaboo's, sry2say. :(

Assassin's Creed. <3 I'm not a gamer, but this game won me over.
