... vs. vegetables you hate.

Love: spinach, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, bell peppers, cabbage
Hate: lima beans, okra, kale

How about you guys?

hate: pumpkin, squash, anything similar to that, it's the mushy texture I can't stand

Love: bell peppers, hot peppers, broccoli, broccolini, lettuce, green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, leeks, peas, lima beans, edamame, lacinato kale, carrots, celery, onions, sweet corn, asparagus, artichokes, onions, sunchokes, avocados (they’re a fruit but so are tomatoes so)

Hate: brussel sprouts, radishes, seaweed (unless it’s used for flavor and removed) mushrooms (unless they’re in tiny pieces in something else so the texture’s unnoticeable), fennel, swiss chard, collards, cooked greens in general

Meh/it depends: spinach (raw in salads or cooked in something else is okay), beets (only ever had them grated raw in salads, tomatoes (depends on the texture raw, cooked in mixed veggie soup is fine), cabbage, cauliflower (in soups is fine, but it’s not! rice or pizza crust), jicama

Never tried: okra, parsnips, rutabaga

Does cactus count as a vegetable? 'Cause I freaking love cactus. I also like cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, and red bell peppers.

I hate squash, cabbage, kale, and both iceberg and romaine lettuce.

Love: p. sure I strongly enjoy most if not all vegetables I’ve tried if prepared the way(s) I like EXCEPT

Hate: bitter melon. Just... I’m ok with some bitter, but it’s all the bitter, all the time. Maaaaybe it could be finely sliced and pickled into submission? I dunno.

I almost want to say Tolkien, but I feel like as a sweeping generalization that's unfair. I heavily dislike the LOTR but didn't mind the Silmarillion or the Hobbit because they didn't have as many unresolved tangents as LOTR, if that makes sense?

Also, I first read LOTR at like, 12/13 so maybe I just need to give it a second chance? I dunno.

From what little I have read of her works, it would have to be Anne Rice. Especially when she went through her "I don't need an editor" phase.

Puh-lease.

David Leviathan. Speaking of overdoing the cleverness. His attempts to be clever are sometimes so lengthy I can't understand what's actually trying to be said.

Proust. He's boring.
Somebody must like Edith Wharton a lot considering how often Ethan Frome is called a classic, It's the only book she wrote that I ever read and I really hated it (had to read it for school). This very dull old guy and this total shallow airhead woman fall in love and don't do anything about it but piss and moan about having to hide it from his wife and the closest we get to a sexy scene is where they're washing dishes. Then near the end of the book they decide to do the stupidest thing possible which is commit suicide and they decide to do it in the dumbest way possible which is run their sled into a tree. They wind up paralyzed and the little airhead does more complaining and the wife (who's the character I felt sorry for although I don't think that's who I was supposed to feel sorry for) is forced to take care of both of them for some reason.
oh, and David Sedaris. He's not anywhere near as funny as he thinks he is.

Either Bronte sister, and also Jane Austin. Dull as dishwasher to me. I just don't find romance interesting, and nothing about their writing drew me in. Although at least Austin's characters were a bit interesting. But the plots were too dull to let the slightly intriguing characters make up for that.

Margaret Atwood. I think her writing has important points to make. I just don't like her writing story. Plus, she can't write a good ending. I hate books that just sort of trail off.

Diana Gabaldon. Ugh. I just can't with Outlander.

Robert Jordan. Which is weird because Tolkien takes just as long to get to a point. But Tolkien works for me and Jordan really doesn't.

Piers Anthony. I don't even know if he's still popular but he used to be and he's actually a lousy writer and a sexist. I think he had interesting basic ideas but he couldn't write them with any depth at all and I couldn't connect with his one-dimensional characters.

Lesser-known favorites and why you love them! inspired by the other thread

- Caroline Stevermer. A College Of Magics is a really charming magical-Interwar-Europe novel. Half of it is set in a girl's college for magic, the rest of it is more like a Ruritanian romance type thing, it's a really fun read with very likable characters.

- Patricia McKillip. Great fantasy writer with really imaginative, powerful themes and great atmosphere and very magical magic. Just full of imagination and life.

Patricia Finney! She has a trilogy about an ex-soldier and a codebreaker in Elizabethan London. The third book has problems but the first two are excellent. She has a mystery series as P. F. Chisholm but I haven't read it.

Not sure I could call them favorites yet, but there are a couple I've discovered recently that I definitely want to read more of.

- Ann Gallagher. I've only read two of her books, which were both super fluffy m/m romance, and they were adorable. I know there's at least one more m/m one and I think there are a couple m/f ones, too...I want to read them all eventually.

- Darcy Coates. I've only read one book (Craven Manor--I originally saw it recommended here a long time ago, so thanks to whoever talked about it) but it was so good. Kind of a stereotypical horror/haunted house story and sort of just really predictable and trope-y but also completely different at the same time? I know that doesn't really make sense, and I'm not sure how to describe it, but it was really good, and I definitely want to read some more of her stuff.
