I think it was recently discussed regarding Good Omens.

Hottest thing EVAR

What’s the hottest picture/art/fanart/fic/story/tv scene etc you have ever seen?

Bonus points for explaining why it yanks your crank.

I'm fat myself and I honestly think the whole fat-positive trend is kind of going down the wrong path.
Mostly because I think there's a huge difference between "people shouldn't be mocked and derided because of their weight" (which is good) and glorifying morbidly obese people and unhealthy lifestyles (which, imo, is not good).

For all your venting and complaining needs.

I have a chronic condition that normally improves in the summer. Last two years though it hasn't. So now I guess I'm going to be sick all year round.

I try to have this attitude and I do indulge in fanfic etc when I didn't like how something ended.

But the way How I Met Your Mother ended changed how I see the entire show. It's the one thing I really enjoyed at the time but haven't been able to revisit. On a similar sitcom vein I wasn't particularly taken with how Friends ended but can still watch all the episodes. Not able to do that with HIMYM.

I dropped my phone and now there's a crack in the glass - the display and functionality are perfectly fine and it's really just one single crack in the corner so putting a screen cover over it for stability would probably work for now because a repair would be ridiculously expensive. But I'm so angry at myself and it's just another shitty thing on a heap of generally shitty things in my life right now and I've only had the phone since April so my self-loathing and bad mood is off the charts right now.

There's a mosquito in my room and I can't aim well enough to squash it.

ETA: Also I'm very fed up with fireworks.

I think it depends on the thing. I don't see many people getting upset when others say they prefer the film Blade Runner to the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

I think it's a shame that in other fandoms there are people like you who feel they can't voice a legitimate personal preference for one version over the other. Sometimes you just connect more with the second version of something.

My leg/thigh suddenly aches a lot when I stand and walk and it's making it hard and painful to do the most basic parts of my job.

A thread for showing off cool stuff you made.

I remember being a little upset around a couple of years ago when a fandom friend just deleted me off everything one day. But I thought about it and we had nothing in common anymore. She eventually hated the band that brought us together in the first place and was an overall music snob. I mean, I have nothing against people liking obscure and underground stuff but it felt like she was going out of her way to *only* like stuff nobody had ever heard of.

Plus we were 16 when we became friends (we did meet in real life too) and you really do change a lot between that and your mid-late 20s. I just look back fondly on the memories and hope she's having a nice life.

I started an original project to work on getting written and published to ward off depression. Sort of a late Camp Nano thing.

I'll still sit here alone in my corner in which I think that Alan Cumming is too old to play Dylan Reinhart in Instinct. I know the show is a lot different from the book and the characters aren't even truly the same but... why not make the husband older as well?

word of god said NB rights or something

[personal profile] malurette 2019-07-14 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Tumblr informed me this morning that July 14th is International Non Binary Pride Day... then through convoluted obsession with Good Omens and insane leaps of logic, jumped to the conclusion that France was cancelled, happy NB Day to everyone! (That made next to no sense but hey I can totally live with it.)

TV shows can be so long that the journey can be just as (or even more) satisfying than a great ending.

But there’s so much assumption that an overweight person MUST be living an unhealthy lifestyle. I have a mutual who had her gallbladder out and can’t eat fatty foods. Every time she goes to the doctor, they tell her to stop eating fatty foods, and ignore her when she says she isn’t and tries to redirect them to the actual problem.

For me it really depends on what kind of shadow the finale throws on the show as a whole.

To keep it recent: So many of my favorite scenes in Game of Thrones were about Dany subverting expectations (for example by actually listening to her advisors) or doing good things (freeing the Unsullied) and I just can't rewatch those scenes without having that last season/the finale hanging over me.

Meanwhile with some other shows, where I disliked the finale, I can easily ignore it and read fix it fic. My favorite character didn't die, my ship got together etc.

Star Wars soundtracks. I grew up on the OT, watching it with my dad. Also the OT soundtracks were some of the only things I listened to for a good chunk of time when I was a kid.

I’ve never felt this way at all. To me, a good story is a progression, A proceeding to B to C. If B proceeds inexplicably to Q, the progression is broken. That’s also why I don’t read stories that got cancelled before they finished, or long-running comics that got retconned so much they never had a chance to meaningfully progress.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-14 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's an absolutely absurd double standard to worry about "glorifying unhealthy lifestyles" in the context of overweight people and literally nothing else though

The Lord of the Rings soundtrack, especially the Rohan theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5_xb522jEo

The Neverending Story by Limahl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKSpLo_MWjo (tho for me it's more the thought of the book than the movie)

When Digimon Tri played the Butterfly theme for the very first time, I cried. Totally unexpected: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-04i20RV_s

Plus anything Sailor Moon, Dragonball or old Pokémon.

Yeah and that's shit. But in general, being morbidly obese is not healthy and shouldn't be glorified. But not glorifying obesity and not being shit to fat people are not mutually exclusive.
