122 The problem is, you can't care about them as much as they care about you, even if you aren't an asshole. And it's that imbalance that causes the problems, because of the misapprehension that fandom is egalitarian, that people all just do what they want to do, and that only horrible venal people do things in order to be popular or get a name in fandom. So there's jealousy, yes, but also that weird jockeying for position to be the friend of the BNF, and it all creates a kind of mess. The only thing that I've seen people do that makes it better is to be very gracious, respectful and appreciative of what people do for you, try never to be condescending, and don't be disingenous about the power differential, because everyone knows it's there.

123. Just because Jack and Ianto are messed up, doesn't mean you can't enjoy their relationship. A lot of it has to do with how you see them. I personally don't think it's the whole 'TWU WUV' type relationship with bunnies and rainbows, but rather both of them just needed something and got it from the other, then found themselves more attached then they thought possible.
Granted, I know that it will end badly, because that's how Television/RTD/Torchwood work.

Also, the fandom needs less all out crazy shippers and more rational, thoughtful, sane shippers!

The American Civil War might work, since enough time has passed for people to take it lightly (reenactment hobbyists, lol), but take it into this century and you might run into problems even Hetalia can't laugh away. I for one do not want to see the Rwandan Civil War discussed there, EVER. And I think Hetalia will probably go into the Vietnam War at some point, but I don't want to see it talk about the civil war aspect either. It likely won't, much like how it parodies WWII but steers clear of the Holocaust.

Forgot to mention! Sometimes I feel the same way, 101 OP, but then I remember a name: Michael Muhney. Played Sheriff Lamb on Veronica Mars. He knew about the fandom and interacted with it. He even read fanfic and commented. He's not the only one. Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead and Hotfuzz, etc. He actually linked to a Hot Fuzz/Doctor Who slash crossover on his myspace blog. Hee. Kim Manners has apparently printed off Wincest fanfic to show the actors (for the lulz I am sure). I can only imagine, but I think a lot of people would just find it fun and mostly harmless.

Actors/writers/whatever are people, too, and have various opinions on things and fandom in general. There will undoubtedly be those who "don't get it" and find it weird and freaky (those who come immediately to mind: Annie Proulx of Brokeback Mountain fame, I've heard rumors about Anne Rice and Laurell K. Hamilton, etc.), and even those who try to take advantage of it (apologies for not remembering the name now, but I remember reading about a specific case of author poaching fanfiction from his fans). But a lot of people in entertainment are geeks, too. Plus, as a lot of people have said, it's kind of dreamy flattering thing to think that all these people like your story so much. I know that if I were an author/whatever I'd be all over having a fandom. It'd be amusing on one hand and strangely sweet on the other.
