I've never heard Amanda naturally speak with a British accent. She moved to Canada when she was 3. Randomly, David Hewlett was born on England as well and moved to Canada when he was a child.

Couldn't the factor compelling them to watch these shows/read these books be the fact that they like these characters? 148. While I can't speak for others -- and I certainly can't say the same for all of the stories you listed -- I can say that If You Are Prepared by Cybele is a classic to me. I was in the fandom way back when it was first written and to me it was one of the first epic Snarry stories I'd ever read. I don't know if I can rightly say why it is a classic but I think maybe it has something to do with fandom nostalgia? I don't know. I can't even say for sure now if it is as good as I remember because the end was so heartbreaking that I can't really bring myself to read it again. The first time was more than enough.

If you weren't in fandom during the time a lot of those were written then you may not have the connection a lot of us have to them. And if you were, maybe you just have different tastes, who knows?

Most of those were written years ago after book 2 or 3 and the like so they're pretty outdated, anyway. I think that as we got to know the characters in the books better those stories became more and more OOC. But then again them's just my thoughts. ;)
