148. Yeah, I like Snape/Harry. I... don't think I've read most of those, but If You Are Prepared gets praised to high heaven and I honestly didn't like it. It grated on me. The only "classic" I'd rec to you is Telanu's Tea series, particularly the fifth installment, A Wizard Song.

Someone on the first page recced The Marriage Stone, which I don't like very much either. Too much world-building in an unbelievable direction for me, which is a shame because it's the only decent premise for a marriage fic I've seen.

125. Yep, I do like it. And it is compelling, because those characters take our worst fears about ourselves and our natures, make them public, and have fun doing it. Characters like that captivate me because they're both incomprehensible or at least unpredictable and at the same time almost uncomfortably easy to understand. It's looking at ourselves through a glass, darkly, and it's scary, and therein lies the fun of it.

I've been away from HP fandom for a while but do people honestly still think that His Man Friday is a classic? Really? Really?
I remember it being unreadable and riddled with spelling errors and wasn't it one of those backfiring-spells-now-we're-bonded fics? Or they had to bond to defeat Voldemort. Something like that. Whatever it was about, there were far superior fics out there.

I can understand why If You Are Prepared and the Civil War series are considered classics - it's fine if they're not to your taste, but they were written long before the HP series ended. Maybe newer readers wouldn't enjoy them as much? I don't know, just an idea.

Was Death Eater Takes A Holiday ever completed? I remember that it got up to something like chapter 70 and was still going strong.

Speaking of unfinished epics, whatever happened to Mirror of Maybe? The first few chapters were great but then there were elves and Harry had all sorts of powers and it was lolarious.

Your secret is really bringing back some good memories - despite the badfic and the laptop scandals, I had a lot of fun in HP fandom. Thanks, OP!

Calm the fuck down, you idiots. If someone is trying to seriously cosplay as a character (and we can assume that this is the case as the OP is in a COSPLAY GROUP) and they are trying to be a character that does not have large quantities of body hair, then they have two options.

a} shave. I realise that not everyone can shave because they have skin disorders / are allergic to creams (even though you don't actually need creams to shave but whatever) / hate it on principle.

b} CHOOSE AN OUTFIT THAT DOES NOT REVEAL THE HAIRIER PARTS OF YOUR ANATOMY. Sure, that can be a little difficult when you've only got one or two costumes to pick from but if you absolutely cannot shave your legs/armpits and you have a choice between something that will make you look closer to the character that you've picked (long trousers, something with sleeves) versus something that will make you look like an AU version of whoever the hell you're going for... well, the answer is obvious.

We've all seen those shitty cosplayers who put on a Naruto headband and say OMG LOOK IM FRUM DAT ANIMAY SHOW ON DAT TV CANNEL LOLOLOL DONT I LOOK EXACTLI LYK HIM?!?! but if you are in a COSPLAY GROUP that, I can only assume, values accuracy, then you should find an alternative or just suck it up and shave.



Oh, by the way, don't tell me that I need to 'learn how to read' and that I'm a misogynistic woman for thinking that you should value accuracy if you belong to a group that considers it to be important. Yes, OP could have phrased her comments better, no, we have not been shaving our legs for the last gazillion years. It was a slip of the keyboard, so to speak, and she probably wasn't thinking about it that way. It is called FANDOM secrets, people, not OMGPEOPLEAREJUDGINGMEBECAUSEOFMYARMPITS secrets.
