To be slightly fair to the American version of the movie, it sounds like Hollywood actually had a fair bit of respect for the movie, and they made the changes they did to get it to appeal to a wider audience. That explanation doesn't play as well nowadays, but their hearts were in the right place.

I'm going to be honest here: the chances are really, really high that they're actual fascists. Up to you whether you want to try to ignore that and just deal with the project without getting into it, or whether you want to keep poking at it until you know for sure, but if you poke at it that's probably what you're going to find out.

Tbh I see nothing wrong with that scenario in fic, but Danny Huston is just not attractive to me. So that might be part of your problem here, not moral quandaries.

I mean, aside from the 2000s revival - and Jordan Peele's new one - odds are higher that you aren't going to run into people who know the original twilight zone right off the bat.

Instead of using that to judge people why not use that as an opportunity to introduce them to it instead or, if they aren't interested, realizing that people having different media likes than you isn't a proper barometer for worthiness.
