I kind of have the same feeling. I haven't quite understood why they're amazing love stories (though if people like them for the same reason people like dime romance novels I suppose it makes perfect sense to me). I wish that the next big thing (Harry Potter, Twilight) will have a strong female lead.

. . . but, with things like "omg twilight is the best ever, edward is so romantic I want one!" Well. I have little hope in the consumer base.
