I once heard that for Hanukkah, if you get an expensive gift, you get it on the first night. Is this true? I have tried Googling but it fails me. <3

Is it usual for college kids in the US to go out to bars or nightclubs? I know the drinking age is 21 so I'm not sure how it fits into the University experience in the US. (In the UK getting completely and utterly trolleyed is a right of passage from day 1 at Uni.)

From what I can find about Hanukkah, there is no set way. Since gift-giving (beyond gelt) is relatively recent, I think many families came up with their own ways. Sometimes it is the last, 8th gift, to be the most expensive. I do think it is pretty common for at least on night to be charity or giving back. Some people don't do eight gifts, just one. Half my family is Jewish (and I know a decent amount of Jewish people) and I've never heard of that. I mean, maybe some families do it that way, but if you had your characters NOT do it that way, it wouldn't be wrong or anything.

For Hanukkah, I don't believe it's a set thing at all, just depends on what your family wants to do. I'm Jewish, and when I was a kid my sister and I often got the expensive gift last. Then when I got older I got only one gift, which was the expensive one and I'd generally get it on the first night.

I'm so over the people in one of my fandoms (a formerly small webnovels fandom that got crowded after several other media adaptions). There is a small but annoyingly vocal group who say they hate the author that they dont actually like the novel but still insist they are part of the fandom because they give the bad OCs in their shitty American high school stories the same names as the novel characters even though they have nothing to do with the original characters anymore. I keep blocking them but they just keep coming.
Fuck off to an OC community with your weird Frankenstein abominations and stop clogging the tag. Your crappy headcanons and stories have zero things in common with the source material except that you stole the names and gave them to your cringey OCs.

So this was posted on another site and most of the replies were from people saying how it took them a long time to figure out what was wrong with it (and even a couple who still didn't see it until someone else pointed it out to them).

I just don't know how you don't notice it immediately...I'm honestly kind of baffled that so many people didn't.
