why do ppl always bring up age of consent as if that's some kind of winning statement? age of consent laws are so that teenagers can have sex with EACH OTHER without getting into legal trouble for it. it's not so that adults can perv on teenagers and face no consequences for their actions.

I think a lot of them evolved out marriage age laws which actually have a lot to do with older men marrying younger women. I don't think that good or anything, but it is what it is. I do know a lot of states have put near in age exceptions on the books so that, yeah, teenagers can have sex with each without getting arrested. But here's the thing, a lot of US television shows and movies follow 18 as an age of consent because they are based in California, and California's laws mean that if two sixteen-year-olds have sex, they have both committed a crime, though it is a misdemeanor (it could be a felony in other cases).

As someone who ships all kinds of fucked up shit and as someone who used to ship teens with adults while barely out of my teens and identifying with the fictional teen, this right here. I get that strikethrough and similar purges were pushed/orchestrated by conservative evangelical types, and I think they were full of it, but someone calling your kink/ship disgusting or saying it makes them uncomfortable =/= purity culture. Even saying your kink should be banned from the internet (good luck removing anything from the internet, honestly) =/= purity culture.

And (except maybe on kink forums or something), not following YKINMK doesn’t make someone a pro-censorship bigot. I think scat is gross and vore creeps me out. Adult/young teen creeps me out. Adult/prepubescent child fic would make me avoid the poster and all their fic/posts. Saying “your kink makes me uncomfortable and I’d prefer not to interact with you because of your kink” =/= censorship.

Sending people anon “die pedo scum” messages over fic, or trying to get them fired IRL is horrible, but not everyone who says they’re uncomfortable with adult/child fic is harassing fic posters, just like probably 99% of people posting adult/child fic aren’t pedophiles.

Most of the most vocal “hdu post dubcon teacher/student fic on your own blog/Ao3” types just keep right on using tumblr/Ao3 and refuse to work at setting up a pg-13 online playpen for themselves; they just whine while doing so. And I agree that their behavior is shitty. But just because their disgust at your kinks reminds you of evangelical purity bullshit censorship crusades, that doesn’t mean it’s coming from the same people or the same culture.

As someone who is grossed out by a whole bunch of kinks but would never actually campaign to make them illegal so long as they’re not causing irreparable harm (presumably BDSM involves hurting people at least some of the time but so long as no one ends up in the ER it’s not my business), people being grossed out by your kink =/= people who want to legislate your kink out of existence. Are lots of people in the first group in the second? Probably. But I belong to the first group for fictional stuff no matter how disgusting I think it is, and RL stuff that doesn’t harm children or animals or unconsenting adults, but not the second.

Nobody on FS ever says I’m a small minded bigot for being grossed out by vore or scat or emetophilia. I’ve defended teen/adult fic as safer for teens than actual sex with adults elsewhere in this thread. But I’m still creeped out by teen/adult fic and horrified by adult/child fic. I’m not campaigning to outlaw them. I just think they’re creepy/gross.
