Yeah, I find Jon Stewart okay, but Stephen Colbert runs miles around Jon if you ask me. I'm a die-hard liberal, but I just like Colbert's random style of humor better. So don't worry, it's okay. :D

138: Not only everything you just said, but also? The movie was just bad. I had to force myself not to turn it off for the first half hour. There was some pretty forced acting, and the script had some truly painful moments. The whole thing was just so ridiculous and, like, aware of itself as a movie, if that makes any sense. And then the ending? Perfect relationships for everybody! I was going to buy a copy, but after seeing it--gah, no. And to think I was so excited about it.

It makes perfect sense to me. While watching, I got the feeling that the people creating this thing were like, 'Oh, look at how clever and offbeat and hip we are,' only they weren't clever or hip, merely a little offbeat.

I know how you feel, but there are several places you can go to introduce yourself:

www.torchwoodforum.com - many of us are on LJ too, but I found it less intimidating to start there than leaving a random comment on LJ and hoping for the best. There is a thread to introduce yourself and a non-fandom general chat as well as every kind of Torchwood discussion you can imagine. Because of it I have many 'real life' friends now too.

Torchwood fandom is full of friendly people. The atmosphere at the Hub1 was amazing and welcoming and just proved to me that the fans are just as welcoming offline as on. I hope you decide to come!

Well, I guess when Fox and CNN are the alternatives... :\ Poor America. You can read lot between the lines, and they'll dig up the most interesting facts to make a lol, but it only works as a semi-source if you're pulling from many sources. Then you can go "Huh? Palin and rape-kits, whut?" when a joke falls flat for you and then do the research at reputable sources.

The only time I haven't liked Jon was his "interview" with Jeremy Scahill, author of "Blackwater". I found it snippy and groundlessly skeptical - a pity he hadn't brought his misplaced "don't bullshit me" attitude to one of the dozen interviews with McCain, who was allowed to get away with that same jokey schtick he'd dazzled the press with for decades.

But Jon copped to being completely wrong and an idiot re: Blackwater a few months afterward, so as least he was honest and humble about it.
