I usually don't go for effects-laden AMVs, but this one gets a pass with me BECAUSE it's so over-loaded with them. The problem with AMVs with lots of effects is that the creators usually don't seem to know what they're doing and they don't look very good. This one just went so far over the top that it somehow became likable again. I mean, if you're going to do it at all? Just GO ALL OUT.

And really, we all love well-timed AMVs that bring together the perfect anime and the perfect song, but if you know both of these things? There's next to no surprise about how the creator will use them. Even the really good ones. There's enough room in the internet for both theme-freaks and effects-junkies, I promise.

A gamer is a gamer is a gamer. Guys don't usually tell others that they're "boy gamers" do they? Why do girls have to say that they're girl gamers then? I've always hated the term "girl gamer" because that's implying gamers are naturally male. I'm a girl, and I'm a gamer. Simple as that.

And I fucking hate RPG.

This. I love RPGs, but I also love survival horror and action and pretty much EVERYTHING if it's interesting.

144. Ahh! I had forgotten about this comic! I used to read it regularly.

124. I agree in that its good, but it could be better, and its totally overrated.

On a random note, the colors for the text and some of the effects burn my eyes in strange ways reminiscent of mspaint colors

Really? I thought the super faked, overdone, Georgiabama accent was so fake and ignorant to actual southern dialects that it made me ashamed of how the majority must perceive My People. That goes for like, every character on that show.

[identity profile] kisarazumama.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
wooo, TELL it. That was also when I gave up on the Nabari fandom--or at least, on that LJ comm. I really, really wanted people to talk with about the series, but they were so non-stop-relentlessly determined to dismiss the anime and be all about the manga. And I mean, I like the manga, but...the ending of the anime IS fine, dammit. So there.

So I said FYA and went and built a website (http://www.spookhouse.net/angelynx/otheranime/Nabari/nabari-mainpage.html). Cos sometimes you just hafta set up your own playground, y'know? =)

105. That is like the best secret ever! I love her so much- she is the cutest, sweetest, most sincere girl ever and I can only hope I'm remotely like her someday. :)

124: I completely agree about AMVs having too many effects, and effects =/= talent, but I don't mind if the effects are well done and fit the song. Even if you know nothing about editing you can imagine the time and effort that must have been put into Skittles, I don't want to think about masking all of that. Toward the end the effects DO get a bit much, but in the beginning (for the most part) I thought they were tasteful. I think it deserves most of the praise it has gotten. Besides, Koopiskeva also edited Waking Hour and Momentum. Both videos have little to no effects and almost made me tear up. I also really enjoyed Twilight.

Is it ok I ask what basic things it could improve on? Just curious. :)

138. WHAT?!...Did you guys actually watch the movie?

The whole POINT was to not judge people on appearances. Tish judged Priestly and Tadd. Jen judged Fuzzy. Piper judged Noah. Tadd judged Tish, Priestly, and Trucker. Trucker judged Zo.
Priestly did his whole rant on how people only seem to look at others and make assumptions on what they're like just by looking at them.
At the end they're all proven how wrong their assumptions were, giving the message of NOT judging people. Priestly showed Tish how she kept picking the wrong guys, missing what was in front of her. Even by the end Tish was the most endearing slut I'd ever seen. And it's so easy to identify with and care for the characters almost immediately.

My friends and I watched it in a whole group and thought it was fantastic and a really great message to send to people. Yeah, I didn't like that Priestly changed himself in the end, but I like to think that he went back to how he normally was afterwards anyway (even with the marriage scene). Maybe he himself even realized he was wearing a mask the whole time.

Did you guys get too distracted on how awesome Jensen looked and not bother to really pay attention? That means the message was missed even more since you obviously judged the movie for its eye candy and not what it was really about. :| This is so disappointing to me. My friends and I really can't wait to buy it.

Actually, if I had been distracted by eye candy, I'd be trying to find any redeeming factor in the movie like, oh say, you are. Reread the secret. I did not at any point express butthurt over the actual physical change of Priestly from punk to prep. It was the idea that he had to become something other than who he was in order to "belong." If you failed so much at comprehending what I wrote, then no matter you actually missed the underlying truth behind the movie's "message."

Whatever message they were trying to express in the film failed miserably because they contradicted themselves so much. The "endearing slut" as you put her still didn't give the nice guy the time of day until he physically changed how he looked. She still judged him, and if the movie is to be believed, the nice guy will cater to her whims because of such.

Maybe he himself even realized he was wearing a mask the whole time.

You cannot assume on a character because we were never shown this. Instead, the character we had been presented with all movie was someone who reveled in his individuality. Took pride in his hair, loved his kilt, these were the concrete examples we were given about Priestly's character. And yet he still bowed to the pretty girl's judging attitude. Tried and failed to get her to see what was underneath, and it wasn't until he catered to her judging attitude that he found happiness with her. Some message.

126. BUT THE WHITE HAIR IS SO AWESOOOOOOOME!

128. Damn straight. She's tough, despite her cute and amicable self.

130. I think I reserve the right to hate Twilight every time I meet a Twilight fan who deludes themselves into thinking they're experts on vampires when they've never touched any other kind of book out there.

But I don't make secrets... because there's enough of them to go around for all us hatas.

[identity profile] eumonigy.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I went to watch that because of your secret. And honestly? Not seeing all of these "basic things it could improve on."

It's well timed and well edited, cute, creative and everything I expect from an AMV. I'm not saying someone with WMM couldn't make an AMV that was equal to or greater than it - just that there's nothing wrong with that particular video.

[identity profile] comrade-phyre.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
133. Eeeee, Live! I love The Distance to Here, and the three albums preceding it. They've been among my favorites for years!

[identity profile] redrevelry.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
124. This secret sounds really jealous. :/ You're saying that it takes more skill to do a plain scenes + music video? lol whut. I've seen great videos that have been made with WMM, but most of them are half-assed shit. Also, the point of the video was the effects. It's a parody of a music video. I think it deserves most of the praise it gets.

138. What is this?

n!s1: AHHHH WTF NO. DDDD:

135: Trufax! I love GL, but it's easy to tug the people's heartstrings by killing off their favourite characters. Getting your audience to have that anxious "oh no DON'T DO IT ARGH HE DID IT OH NOOO" feeling is a bit harder.

122-I feel the same exact way! I am absolutely mesmerized everytime I see them. They make me feel invincible under all those lights. :)
143-Mohinder's always been stupid. He's supposed to be this good guy, but EVERY SINGLE SEASON he ends up working for the bad guys. WTF. Plus, he likes Maya. EW.
147-AGREED. I thought they were gonna be this awesome dynamic duo, but, alas, no. :(

138

[identity profile] obvious-wing.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD I AGREE SO HARD. The end was such FAIL. Which is interesting, cause the rest of the movie was perfectly fine. Cute in an almost sickening way, but fine. Every single one of those things you said were true to an upsetting and horrifying degree. Ten Inch Hero had almost as few morals by the end as Chicago. Even so though, Priestly was adorable. And Trucker too. Just...why did they have to end it like that, of all things? Also, WTF naked horseback riding on the beach? I would rather watch Devour, which says something.
