118. Awww, indie rock secrets!

[identity profile] moeras.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. A thousand times yes. I forced myself through the whole thing so I could legitimately critique it--God, I've never rolled my eyes so much at a movie before. I am still astounded at how much it managed to undermine the message it seemed to be trying so hard to get across (stay true to yourself by completely reinventing yourself so you can fit in!).

[identity profile] feywood.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been said (not sure of the source/truthiness) that the Banana Republic outfit is a one time thing, showing that there's a classic nice guy under all the fauxhawk and piercings. So. Perhaps not so much undermining?
I didn't it was great either, really, but cute.

Not that many secrets today.

101. It's a satire show on COMEDY CENTRAL. Of course it's not real news. It's, again, satire. And should treated as such. That is to say, you can still learn from it but don't take it as straight news.

And how the devil is he smug? He's one of the least smug people I've seen on television ever. You want to see smug? Then check out the guy he replaced back in 2000, Craig Kilborn. Now that's was one smug guy.

128. Really? But she's such a ditz. (Someone is trying to kill me through my family members. Do I stay with friends? Do I stay in the police station for the time being? Do I ask for police protection? Nah, I'll just go all alone to a vampire's house, where other vampires besides my boyfriend like to hang out. I should be A-Okay.)

Re: 101

[identity profile] mellow-dk.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Gah, I used to want to punch Kilborn in the face so hard.

101. They never pretend to be anything but fake news. In fact they are honest in that what they do is pull things out of context to laugh at it. The fact that some people are too idiotic to realize that is not their fault.

The sad thing is that the real news does the same thing, except they are serious about it.

Re: 101

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right?

But that kind of makes me question - how idiotic is it if you're not going to be asking questions when another news station delivers the exact same thing but without any critical or satirical commentary?

105. ...I find this strangely adorable.

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
101. Weird. I've never heard those criticisms leveled against Stewart.

132. I kind of empathize. I think it sucks that female gamers feel like they have to earn some kind of weird "street cred" by plodding through games they might not even like, just so that they're allowed to say "Hey, I like video games too." Guys who only play shooters don't have to put up with it. I don't know. My taste in video games is probably one of the weirdest things in the world to be self-conscious about, but I still find myself running down my list to be sure I've reached quota for western/non-RPGs I've played and liked. Wish it was easier to say "haters to the left" and play whatever the fuck I want.

136. Don't make yourself miserable over it, it's really not worth it.

132

(Anonymous) 2008-11-07 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't get me wrong, I like Metal Gear Solid. I was more thinking along the lines of "I'll get to look cool" But yeah, I have to agree on that pretty much. Sometimes gamers look down so much on girls, it's painful to restrain yourself from punching them in the face.

145.

[identity profile] umiyuko.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
145. I'm a HUGE Yoite fangirl, and that post STILL irritated me.
I wouldn't flush the whole fandom down the toilet though.

Re: 145.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-06 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, the people who are not elitists and are not exclusively concerned with Yoite are so far and few between that they're simply not worth being in the fandom for. :( Plus I'm not really interested in the manga anymore, anyway.

124- I have no idea the AMV "group" but the reason I enjoy that AMV is it stuck out BECAUSE of it. if they were ALL like that, no it would just be one run of the mill AMV. it's not talent so much as doing something unique that makes it so enjoyable. Just like wtf ever that really awesome AMV that one best AMV of the year last year was I don't give a shit about because now EVERY AMV is "Pretty scenes paces to music." as oppose to concept or telling stories or whatever.

Sorry, welcome to the world of creativity. Shit loads of painters are way better then Picasso. It's not always about technical skill.

133- Wait, is it the BAND Live? Because they're not super obscure...

133

[identity profile] otana.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised how many people have never heard of them, or only know them as "that band that did Lightning Crashes".

127) It is completely okay to cry at the sad missions in Ouendan and EBA, my friend. Anyone who says they didn't choke is probably lying.

[identity profile] postal152.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
109. Ouch. :(

129. Awww, I get so nervous about admitting stuff like this, but I've always thought he loved him too. Personally, I like to think he *did* realize it, but couldn't do anything for fear of losing his friend. For some reason their friendship really touches me, whether we're right or wrong, but it certainly makes for a good story, doesn't it? My heart hurts just thinking about it ,gah. Poor Stephen.

138. I *thought* those were his eyes - what's all this rumpus?

115. Once again Mai-HiME saves us and saves all the woooooooorld!

124. :( (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8c/Racheldratchdebbie.jpg)

126. I’m laughing out loud at this secret, and I haven’t even played the game! Aw, poor Lavender Link…

145. I was so excited about no_ou when I first came across the anime's opening. It looked beautiful! And new! And there was a samurai girl! And I loved all of the characters… even the hilariously emo characters of Yoite and Miharu! Except when I came to the sickening realization that… they were being serious.

I really, really love all of the other characters, even Yoite and Miharu when they’re not interacting with each other and trapped in the wangst cycle. But even my love of Raimei could not sustain me through the black hole of suck which was the main characters’ boring melodrama of a relationship.

145

[identity profile] kuromitsu.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same here. Both the anime and the manga started out very well and I loved little devil Miharu... and then somehow, I'm still not sure how, it turned into a YoitexMiharu love story and everything became subordinated to this glorified hurt/comfort fantasy. (I suppose this is what happens when an author falls in love with a character/pairing...)

I finished the anime by skipping the annoying bits and I'm going to finish the manga to see what happens to the characters I like, but it's so sad that it turned out this way. I was so happy to see Yoite finally kick the bucket, only to have Miharu continue to angst by himself. Wargh.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-06 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
104. Cry more.
They did a fantastic job with the new characters and tying the Phoenix arc up with the Apollo arc.
Get over the "death of Phoenix" or whatever you AJ-haters are calling it.
Don't you think playing as him for more games would have gotten boring eventually anyways?
I'm glad they changed it up.
And I actually like AJ better than the PW era games (except T&T, but that one is just insanely hard to beat).

[identity profile] biocaam.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

I was butthurt over Phoenix's disbarment for a while, but that was because I didn't play the game. Once I actually did, I loved AJ more than the originals.

Maya will always be better than Trucy, though.
