what one fanfic trope or setup do you want to see become A Thing in popular culture at large that shows up in actual movies and TV shows

I just wish we could go back to having more variety in fantasy and scifi. Sure, dark and grim has its place, and I like some of it. But I'd like to see more hopeful, heroic stuff too. Just give us variety. Not everything needs to be R rated and/or depressing.

I really like characters who obviously have strong chemistry but don't get together right away. I like seeing how those relationships build and change over time especially if they start off disliking each other. It's way easier to find in fic than tv these days. It used to be a thing in the 90s and then it died at some point.

I like truth serum/spells or something that reveals secrets as a plot too.

I want more Noble Top Enforcer where the villain's #2 secretly helps the heroes.

I also like the variant where the #2 has been used up and tossed aside by the Big Bad as no longer useful, and the former baddie then achieves redemption (with or without dying) by helping the protagonists.

A guy comes onto a girl, she says she's not interested, and that remains true. It doesn't turn out that if he keeps pressuring her she'll change her mind, or that she didn't really mean it in the first place.

I want to see HBO tackle A/B/O, just because I think it'd be fucking hilarious.

If I'm being serious, though, I want to see crossovers? I know how logistically difficult that is, but it doesn't make me want to see them any less. Weird ones! Not just like... Marvel vs DC or something, but like CSI and GoT. Weird stuff.

Intimate healing. Freaking love that trope.

Fake-out Makeouts, my absolute favourite!

Gangs/organized crime done right...

Strong platonic friendships (particularly between a mon and a woman) that aren't filled with jealousy, romance, or people saying how cute it would be if they got together!

Communication! No vague 'this is very important, but I'll tell you later' and then having the character always dying right after, or 'we don't have time to talk right now' even though what they have to say would have taken less time just to spit out and cause a lot less issues. Also I hate it when two characters fight over a stupid miscommunication that could be solved in five seconds but somehow lasts entire seasons for absolutely no reason!

This is probably so general that it’s cheating but okay. Fanfic has a tendency of making the shipped characters…integral to each other’s development? Like, their relationship with each other affects how they see the world and how they see themselves, and how they feel they fit into the world, in innumerable ways, big and small. Their relationship with each other ties very heavily into their own self-actualization over time.

That’s what romance is all about for me. That’s what makes a fictional romance compelling, period.

So I’d really like to see way more of that dynamic in mainstream media.

What are your favorite movie monsters?

Why do you love them?

Mummies! I just think that the sense of age and ancient-ness is really cool, conceptually, and also curses and traps are fun. And I think they're less, IDK, played out than some other monsters.

As a general monster, werewolves. Unfortunately so many look so goofy.

Specifically, the best monster I've ever seen is Modor from The Ritual.

For most fun, it is the monsters from Tremors.

Vampires. I just think they’re neat.

I think this is more games than movies, but liches. I think mostly I just like skeletons, and they tend to be a more cerebral undead than zombies. More magic, less gore. I like my monsters a bit more on the fantasy side.

Mummies also hit a lot of the same notes, so those too. And I swear I'm not just saying this because I was addicted to Mummies Alive! when I was ten.

Frankenstein, because even though they're built like a monster, that doesn't mean they have to become one. I read a one-shot manga called 'Beautiful People' where a vanity obsessed woman meets a frankenstien-like girl built from the bodies of the dead, it completely captured my heart the second I read it. <33

Vampires are always a favorite. Anything Lovecraftian.

Everything in Doctor Who pretty much- especially Daleks, Silence, and the Silurians.

Nazgul of course. Also Tolkien's werewolves (I like his best, they are more demonic monster wolf, less human transformed).

Dragons are probably always going to be my favorite, though. I'll take them any way I can get them.

For sheer horror, the crawlers from The Descent and the 'it' from It Follows. Both completely terrifying, though in very different ways.

For fun? Vampires. I like them scary, I like them sexy, I like them all the ways.
