I love how most people are like "OMH BUT KODOMO NO JIKAN IS 4 PEDOS AND SOUTH PARK IS TEH SATIIIIIIIRE!". I assume these people have never even read Kodomo No Jikan or watched the series. Let me get one thing clear: it has a plot besides a precocious little girl. There are complex character relations involved. Not just between the girl and her teacher, but between the girl and her friends, the girl and her caretaker (who is the closest thing to a molester in the story), and the teacher and the other teachers. It's also a tale of growing up. And to talk about little girls growing up, sometimes you have to show things that most people don't think little girls actually do. Like talk about sex. And I don't know about you, but me and my classmates at that age? That's what we talked about. I was never in love with my teacher, but there were guys I would have "jumped", even if I didn't understand the full implications of "jumping" someone.

South Park is just a couple of Libertarians using kids as avatars to bitch about things they don't like. Oh, and let me remind you about a little boy named Cartman. A racist, unpleasant little shit. I could never understand why he's supposed to be funny. I guess because he's "satirical", and that makes it okay. He's the most popular character now... and I wonder how many of his fans even know he's supposed to be satirical. Hell, I'm beginning to wonder if he's even satirical anymore. Parker and Stone have been putting some of their views into HIM rather than Stan and Kyle (like the hippie episode, or the "take that, Family Guy" episode).

Frankly put, why is a racist anti-semite child considered funny but a precocious one isn't?

Re: 150

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
No.

No. No. NO.

These girls are EIGHT. Do you know what eight year olds talk about? Who has the cutest clothes and who is the cutest boy. 'Dating' at that age is sitting next to each other in the cafeteria during lunch. Little third-grade girls get giggly about holding hands at school and how that means they'll be together forever.

They do NOT have sex.

They do NOT talk about having tight pussies.

I don't care if there's any comparison between South Park and Kodomo no Jikan. I don't watch either show, I'm not interested in it, and I know that they're not real and can be whatever they want. Fiction does not equal reality, and children can be unrealistic in it. But don't you fucking dare talk like it's normal for living eight-year-olds to be like that. Because it's not.

Re: 150

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
And nobody DOES have sex in Kodomo No Jikan.

Jesus Christ. If it were about 8 year old BOYS having the same conversations, there would be no argument. Because boys will be boys, girls need to be protected. Yeah.

Re: 150

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Wrong again. Boys at that age don't have those sort of conversations either. It's one of my big issues with South Park.

You'd be quite surprised. :|

Re: 150

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
No, I wouldn't. I know about eight-year-olds, because I have an eight-year-old daughter.

Re: 150

What an eight year old child talks to her FRIENDS about in private will always be much more than she talks to her MOTHER about, obviously.

Re: 150

[identity profile] madmarxmax.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Buuuut... South Park IS meant to be a satire. You might not like it (and you obviously don't) it still doesn't mean that people who like South Park will also like Jikan. Honestly, I'm really confused about this series. So it's a fan-service-y comedy about grade schoolers, but it's also totally deep and totally not pedo and anybody who has a problem with it simply can't see past the pages and pages of underage pantyshots.

Have you ever heard of A Child's Life by Phoebe Gloeckner? That's a legitimate story of childhood sexualization/abuse. There's a tangible difference.

Re: 150

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I know it has a plot, and that there is no actual sex in it, but however many people say that, I will never be convinced that a series with splash pages of eight-year-olds lying around in "sexy" lingerie is totally not aimed at the lolicon audience. I mean, I'll believe that there are people who enjoy it for reasons other than the fanservice, but it's pretty obviously pandering to people who enjoy said fanservice.

And yes, little kids do talk about that stuff, but not quite in the way the manga represents it. I remember being nine or so and studying the reproductive system in science class and snickering over it with my friends, but we had only the vaguest idea what reproduction actually entailed, and I'm pretty sure none of us could have or would have made puns about tight pussies or asked a guy to shoot his sperm in her.)

FTR, though, I hate South Park too.

[identity profile] angathol.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what kind of environment you grew up in, but we didn't learn about what sex even WAS until the fifth grade (ages 10+), let alone crude double-entendres and the entire workings of sex and reproductive organs. Meanwhile, Rin jokes with her friends in the presence of adults about how they all have "really tight pussies!" and writes a note to her teacher saying "I hope you ejaculate inside me!" (in b4 bullshit background info and halfassed justifications!)

And an eight-year-old cocktease isn't funny in the slightest, it's fucking disgusting. Not that racism and antisemitism aren't disgusting, but sexualizing a prepubescent child is an utterly revolting concept.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
You know South Park fall under that right? I mean it had a whole episode with Ike, who is like five, sleeping with his teacher. One episode had Cartman sucking off Butters. It's not above crude sexual humor among eight year olds. Hell, the first episode was laden with it.

And wow, I learned about sex when I was eight. I remember around that age the boys used to ask if you had a bra, what size your boobs were, and was flipping up girls' skirts to look at their panties (and I was an actual victim to that once, and yes I knocked the shit out of the guy). Nowadays, a lot more nine-year old like Rin are more (disturbingly) sexually aware.

Rin is treated as a girl with a problem, her unusual sexual behavior was the indication for the teacher, Aoki, that's something wrong. It's obvious she learned this somewhere, and considering the parenting she's getting from her guardian, Reiji, who's raising Rin to be a clone of her mother so Rin can replace her, it's not surprising her behavior turned out like that. Even if Rin's behavior is like that, she doesn't fully comprehend sex, like every nine year old.

[identity profile] angathol.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm well aware that South Park also has things of that nature, but it doesn't entirely REVOLVE around it. The whole point of the show isn't to sexualize kids, and when it does so, it's in a humorous "gross-out" manner, not to titillate its audience. The audience and the context are entirely different.

You must've grown up with a bunch of kids who had absolutely no sense of discipline. Congrats.

In after attempted justifications. I honestly doubt that this series is as "deep" as people claim. No matter how much backstory they throw in there, their target audience isn't your average Joe, and side stories about getting eight-year-old Tits McGee a bra isn't character development. The whole thing is fanservice with a contrived excuse for a plot.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kodomo no Jikan doesn't evolve around the fanservice either. It's point is not to sexualized kids either. Rin's behavior is treated not acceptable in the series either.

No, kids would be kids. Maybe you grew up in a more sheltered area?

Says a person who didn't even read the series. You just based it on hearsay and judge it without knowing. How's that better than Kenny's dream of breasts or whatnot? It's treated as comedy as that episode and it deals with Mimi's being uncomfortable about developing faster than a normal girl.

And eight year old with bras isn't as unthinkable as you think since I was one of them and with obesity and the shit people eat, girls are getting their periods that young.

[identity profile] angathol.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Kodomo no Jikan doesn't evolve around the fanservice either.
Says a person who didn't even read the series.

Nice try. I'd already read several chapters months ago, and attempted to pick it up again tonight in the hopes of maybe, just maybe, seeing it from a different point of view. But no, it's the same sexualized drivel. The main character is an older version of Keitaro with an underaged harem. Faaaaaaantastic. I honestly can't understand why people defend this bullshit excuse for a series.

And sheltered? Try civilized.

Where did I say that an eight-year-old wearing a bra was unthinkable? That chapter was an excuse for another sexualized scene between underage girls.

But of course, since I can't be bothered to force myself through any more of this drivel that people somehow actually enjoy, I'm clearly close-minded! If I have to plow through pages upon pages of little girls in skimpy outfits flashing their panties at their teacher just to get to the actual REASON why Rin is The Littlest Cocktease (which I'm sure 90% of the audience isn't hanging on for), it's not worth reading.

But hey, let's agree to disagree. You can justify your lolicon series all you like. I'll be moving onto series where the main catch ISN'T a sexualized child. Have an awesome day, anon!

Let's look at this season of South Park.

1st episode: Cartman gets HIV through a blood transfusion, and he gives it to Kyle (through a needle injection) out of spite. The only sex joke in the episode is saying that Cartman and Kyle are gay lovers after Kyle says that Cartman gave him AIDS.

2nd episode: Brittney Spears blows her head off and the tabloids write about it, and it all turns out to be a plot to get her to commit suicide so the Gods will give a good corn harvest. The sex jokes in this episode are related to Brittney when she exposes herself on-camera once.

3rd episode: Kids get high from sniffing cat piss, and the other kids try to get Kenny off of it. Lots of boobie jokes, but they specifically said 'yeah, and you only get to see her tits anyways.'

4th episode: Canada goes on strike. No sex jokes.

5th episode: Mrs. Garrison gets a sex change and becomes Mr. Garrison again. They have lots of penis jokes, and a penis is attached to a mouse, but all the sex jokes are said between adults and are jokes about women being scared of mice.

6th episode: Internet breaks. Stan's dad jacks off to porn. No children involved in the sex jokes.

7th episode: Terrorists hold the children hostage at a living museum. No sex jokes.

8th episode: The kids talk about Indiana Jones being 'raped' in his new movie. And by 'raped' they mean his character was way off. There's sexual imagery, but that was the children describing how out of character Indiana Jones was.

9th episode: Cartman makes fun of breast cancer. He makes boob jokes, but they're all just him giggling about being able to say 'breast' in class without getting in trouble.

10th and 11th episodes: Kids make a Peruvian flute band, giant guinea pigs take over the earth, and they have to stop them. No sex jokes.

12th episode: The election was all a sham. McCain and Obama are friends and they were trying to steal the Hope Diamond. No sex jokes.

Out of those 12 episodes, 2 involved boob jokes, 1 had ONE sex joke involving the kids, and 1 could actually be considered sexual content. That's one-third, or one-sixth if you discount the boob joke episodes. Now, how many of this season-- or even the last twelve episodes-- of Kodomo no Jikan involved the girls making sex jokes or talking about sex?

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
What? One season out of 13 totally makes it different despite the degree of sexual jokes it did previous seasons?

Actually, the fan service had been pretty toned down for a while since it's fully involved with plot now.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Would you like me to go over the last twelve? Because I think you'll find the trend to be the same: while a couple episodes do deal with those issues, a majority of the episodes are about other things entirely.

Holy crap, anon, please tell me you're being sarcastic and you're not actually using what you wrote above as a defense of anything. Admittedly, I have no interest in either show, but in what universe is the depiction of giving someone AIDS for the hell of it supposed to be better than anyone, no matter how young, talking about sex?

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't saying it was better? Just not the same as children talking about sex all the time. It's more of an 'apples and oranges' thing than 'omg one show is better than the other.'

Several points I'd like to make:
a. Cartman is a sociopath, and anyone who hasn't realised that by now hasn't been paying attention.
b. You are not supposed to identify with Cartman, you are supposed to identify with Stan and Kyle.
c. That whole episode was a somewhat heavy handed attempt to point out a decrease of public interest in the plight of AIDS victems and to increase funding for AIDS research.
d. South Park may be rude, crude, violent and sexual at times, but at the same time it has evolved a rather preachy morality. The episode where Ike gets involved with his teacher, for example, spends a great deal of time pointing out societies double standards. The male police are at first horrified when they think the teacher is male, but when they learn she's young and attractive they respond with 'nice'. All the while Kyle and Stan - the characters you are supposed to empathise with - are horrified.
e. The fact that there is fanservice (pantyshots) in Kodomo no Jikan negates any negative reaction Rin's behaviour may garner, because it is rewarding the *audience* with sexualised imagery of a child.
f. I wouldn't watch either show with my mother, but I damn well know which one I'd be more likely to get arrested for.

Ohhh, I know way more about this series than I ever want to, but I happen to hang out somewhere that half the user base loves pedo shit so... I doooooo! My life is so hard, etc. Highlights for those too terrified to expose themselves purposefully yet want to know more, a.k.a victims of trainwreck syndrome, look here:

There are three main girls. Loli 1, Loli 2, and Loli 3.

- Loli 1 is the lead. She lives with a pedophile who wants to rape her, I think? And her mom died and she's crazy because of it. And maybe he was raping her mom too? I am not sure. Anyway, she wants her teacher to protect her/have sex with her, whatever. It's not a terrible setup if it wasn't played for BIG LOLS. Her stellar moments include stripping for her teacher, molesting Loli 3's unnaturally huge chest, and generally being frighteningly crazy.

- Loli 2 wants to have Loli 1 for her lesbian self. She is also a pervert like Loli 1, and rich too? Kind of like a tinier, lecherous Tomoyo from CCS.

- Loli 3 has a giant chest, despite being 9! She is innocent and also wants teacher to love her. Most famous for raising her hand in class and asking 'Why do dicks get big?'

Don't you see, guys? This is serious literary shit. The issues taken on here (by the female artist, btw) are HUGE. How can you not understand it's not just loli fap material? U r so meanz.
