101. I wasn’t even around when 2 and 4 were having adventures and I miss them a lot too. And don’t get me started on 9 (why only 1 season! ;_; ) but it’s Who. Its part of the deal. The character isn’t dead! He’s just being reinvented constantly and that’s part of what’s cool about Dr. Who.

128. Fandom is suppose to be fun. I don’t get why it’s not either. If I want drama and wank, I can just go to work. >.>

150. I prefer yaoi/yuri over het but I completely agree with you. Not all het stories are clichéd. Not all homosexual stories are novel. Some yaoi stories are so stupid and boring and clichéd that it hurts. And some het stories are completely amazing and awesome and fun. Sexual orientation does not automatically make a couple interesting.

That said, what is the name of that anime. I saw a picture of the guy in a washing machine once and thought it was the most hilarious thing ever. But I’ve never been able to figure out what anime this was. Now I really want to see it. Their relationship sounds interesting.

Have you completely missed the point of Doctor Who? Have you completely missed that there were nine other actors who played the same character since 1963?

The show did not start with Eccelstone and will not die with Tennant.

If you're that shallow that all you care about it Tennant, then go. Don't let the TARDIS door hit your butt on the way out.

BUT if you actually care about the show and the characters, rather than just the actor, then accept that this happens in Who, read some New Adventures, watch Trial of a Time Lord, and jump back in.

[identity profile] flutingfrenzy.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
126. I suspect the authors of textbooks with recurring characters hint at ships between them on purpose, actually. It gets you to care about the characters and helps you learn.

126 - AHAHA. I used to do that. |D
137 - GOD YES, THE FIREFLY CLAN.
140 - People get like that? :S I'm by no means a fan of the books, but I always thought she was gorgeous if something of a hack.

113. Oh, I loved Koi Kaze too (I only read the manga). It was sweet even if the subject matter was taboo.

[identity profile] math-camel.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
126 - Oh Holy Shit! Do you go to MU? I know I've been having these discussions with my friends for ever! 'Specialy the cracky bits like "My friend went to China and never came back' and 'you're sitting in the dark with your friend and you begin to feel uncomfortable' and the best of all "please don't die!'

Genki needs its own fadom fo' sure.

150: I haven't watched Eureka Seven, but I can only assume that you're using the word "literally" wrong. In Greek Mythology, Atlas had to deal with the literal weight of the world. If the fate of the world rests upon these two characters, that's the figurative weight of the world.

148 - So? I ship Kitty/Robert (Brothers & Sisters) like there's no tomorrow *lol* (more than any other pairing on the show, including Kevin/Scotty)
I agree that popular married ships are distinctly rare in fandom.. but that doesn't mean they can't be awesome! :D

135

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw man, friendships sure are fragile these days, if the only criterion people are going by anymore is the preferred sexual position of two fictional characters. I wouldn't have batted an eyelash if this secret had said "I refuse to read fic by" or "I refuse to look at art by", but don't you think this is taking preferences a little too far?

Re: 135

(Anonymous) 2008-11-09 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I've learned, over a lot of years in fandom, and making friends with people in fandom, that similar interpretations of character can be a strong indicator of how well you'll get along.

That said-- this isn't the case with all pairings. Snape and Harry push all my wanky buttons.

[identity profile] samuraiter.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Rem on the left, of course, but isn't that a Draegloth on the right from the ol' Planescapes books? If so, good choice of artwork.

Whenever I hear someone say that canon het is ALWAYS or ALMOST ALWAYS written poorly, my response is always 'find better fandoms'. There's a lot of bad romances in all quarters.

Talho and Holland were great and awesome, but I never really liked Renton and Eureka. Mostly because their relationship was unevenly written from episode to episode and the ending was pretty lame.

[identity profile] yukitheawesome.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
not!secret 1: I was going to make a secret about that, too, but then I realized… well, it's not a secret. I can honestly say that I adore him, and that I would still adore him if he smoked, but the fact that he doesn't makes me love him twice as much as I do. Does that make sense? XD

TL;DR IAWTC. :)

112. IAW you, too. You said everything I'm thinking.

116. Oh, YES. He is a frighteningly attractive man. (His bit on Crossfire was pretty fucking awesome, too.)

148. Me, too. WashxZoë from Firefly. If anyone ever tried to ridicule me about liking them together (they haven't, but I'm prepared), I just tell them "LOOK, here are all the reasons why they're awesome. D<"

Well, it being put in that category made me realize it's not a secret for myself either. I think it's his adamant stance on it that is so attractive. What you've said makes perfect sense to me. (:

The author actually has everything to do with the series. Her appearance on the other hand, does not. I dislike that series immensely and think Stephenie Meyer is not nearly as good as the credit she's given but I hate it when people rag on her for her size. That's not what makes her a bad writer or the series undeserving of the attention.

[identity profile] chickpeagreen.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
148. What's wrong with shipping a canon married couple? I ship one too, and they're pretty much the only thing I ship.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
101. I'm guessing Doctor Why? I'd be so sad to see it go--it's truly brilliant stuff.

109. Y'know, I did too, actually. That scene was really just beautiful. "YOU'LL CRUSH THE DIVA!" Plus, I love "The Girl You Left Behind." ...I think I need to watch it when I get back.

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
104. ...I pretty much assume that people skip over secrets that don't interest them. Why do people insist on making secrets saying what they're not reading? Seriously, who cares?
105. I wouldn't call keeping your fandom life secret from RL lying--just not telling them about every aspect of your life. But good luck telling your friends if you want to. (Also, Sam/Gene is love.)
112. One, there's nothing wrong with just liking the friendship--the reason they're shipped so often is that their canon relationship is so compelling. Two...you do realize friends can fall in love, right? And that it doesn't invalidate their friendship? I don't like it when people claim they're canonically in love, but most people can "handle the difference." Try not being condescending to people that happen to ship it and maybe you'd find some of the nice genfic in the fandom.
116. Jon Stewart is awesome.
121. XD
140. Thank you. I'm no Twilight fan, but really, the books--and the stuff she says in interviews, etc--are actually worthy of making fun of. You don't have to go on tangents of completely unrelated personal insults.
149. XDDD

[identity profile] fail-cookie.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
110: Beautiful People secret! Yes! I've not watched it all yet but it's so sweet and funny and English (omg Reading XD) and charming in such a completely unconventional way- I love Simon's family so much, especially as people like his mum and dad (<3 d'aww) and his sister really -do- exist ^.^ I hope a fandom for it picks up soon, it definitely deserves one!

135: :/ Oh seme/uke argument, you will forever be a mystery to me...They both have (presumably) working peens they're fully capable of putting in the other's rear, why does it make a difference who's turn it is to top?

EDIT: (Because i'm a tard and didn't read the secret properly) I can understand it depends on your own personal preference for who's personality is more 'dominant' But as a HarrySnapeHarry supporter (who finds it especially hot when Harry's on top of...anyone in the world ever), i'm just too glad to stumble across something well-written and IC to be picky about what order they're in.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
104) It helps to do some very basic proofreading, too.

105) Personally, I have absolutely no problem pigeon holing my life. There is no need for my RL friends to be bored or disturbed by my fandom activities. There is no need for my mom to know about my sex life. I don't discuss politics with my right wing acquaintances. I don't discuss my grown up problems with my 6 year old. I don't talk about my kids in fandom circles. There is one person in my life who knows everything there is about me: My husband. Everyone else gets the part that is most relevant to them, and everyone is happier for it.

121) What a crappy reason to watch a show. Don't you find testing the myths even slightly interesting? Since when did we have to be sexually attracted to something in order to find worth in it.

135) Honestly, can't you just limit what you read to what you like? Do you have to judge the entire worth of your friends based on one little thing they enjoy?

142) Well if it helps much, they are really nothing alike. Nothing at all. Personally, I liked the original BSG. It may have been cheesy and silly, but it was good clean fun. The current BSG is more like literature -- gritty, dark and full of psychological pathos and deep exploration about the nature of God and humanity. It's a deeper, more powerful experience, and I think it's one of the best sci-fi shows of all time (behind Babylon-5).

148) I think you are being unnecessarily paranoid. As long as you aren't obnoxious about how much better a person you are because you ship canon, no one is going to give you grief for shipping the canon pairing. Really.

149) LOL. You know, people do like beans and sugar cubes just because they are yummy and useful. I've got both in my pantry right now, but until this moment I didn't associate them with Watchmen, which I've read and am looking forward to seeing.

101. I'm not into Doctor Who, but isn't it like... there's a new actor playing the Doctor just about every season?

150. no way man, all het is terrible and yaoi is deep and realistic

101

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-11-10 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Not exactly every season, but yeah, David Tennant plays the tenth one, so... y'know, there's been ten. I get the OMG NO D: fangirl-y reaction lots of people are having, because if you happen to love Ten and/or Tennant then yeah that makes sense, but the OMG MY LIFE IS OVER THE SHOW IS RUIND FOREVER!!! reaction is.. a little melodramatic.
