101. Hey I know how you feel. He's my Doctor and I'm absolutely heartbroken he's leaving. I don't know HOW I'll get through the regeneration episode. I didn't realise I'd get this attached to HIM as the Doctor.

BUT

Don't give up on the show. He is one of the best things about it, but he's not the only good thing. It hurts like hell now but it'll still be Doctor Who, even if it's a little different. (or a lot. losing Russell T. Davies is not so good either, methinks.)

126. OH GOD, GENKI. HAHAHAHA... Takeshi gets felt up by a sex offender on the train in Chapter 21.

140. Because Meyer is batshit crazy? True, her physical appearance shouldn't be a factor, but seriously... batshit.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-10 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
105. Totally my situation. Mine seems even sillier because I HAVE rabid slash fans, but I still don't let them see how I'm into it. I've been written off as the saner, more innocent, girl all this time, I don't know how much effort I should put in into telling it straight. Probably because it won't help the situation because it's not just slash, it's a specific pairing that was the whole reason I made an LJ in the first place because I was starving with no one to talk to about it.

106. Lol I'm glad I just watched Tropic Thunder so I could get this. LOL'ed so hard.

135. Truth there. One side of topping, and fandom just writes them better and more IC. D:

OMFG GENKI!!! I USE THAT BOOK!! Mary and Takeshi are totally dating!! XD Sad that they break up when she goes back home.

Y'know, I'm sorry people have been such twats about this secret. I started out agreeing with them, but after reading nine pages with, "lol, BYE, good riddance," scattered throughout, I'm finding the responses way more fucking annoying. I think people are belatedly venting on you what they didn't waste on yesterday's melodramatic, "OMG DT IS LEAVING AND SO AM I!!!" secret.

I don't want Tenth Doctor lovers to leave fandom in droves. Because I love the Tenth Doctor, and if Ten!fic and other such fanwork dries up after he leaves (okay, harharhar, highly unlikely - fandom is drowning in Ten-related fanwork - but indulge my paranoia here for a moment), I would just cry.

At least you realize this feeling isn't rational; I'm sure you have a good chance of getting over and on. I think you should just acknowledge the way you feel without trying to wallow in it, and wait and see how you feel over time.

I do totally sympathize. I watched the new series before Tennant, and it was just a pleasant show to watch. He was the one who gave the show a spark in my eyes that made it compelling, and not just pleasant. I like Classic Who because of his Doctor; I tend to see it as interesting simply because it's the Tenth Doctor's history. So the idea of moving on to the next Doctor leaves me nonplussed; I can't begin to imagine what that will be like.

Still, I hope I like Eleven; and I hope you will as well.

A. Another Tennant fangrrl has a panic attack. How original.

B. Another Tennant fangrrl doesn't know the meaning of 'secret.' What a shock.

Was I supposed to care either way?

124-I think Batman/Wonder Woman is the hottest of the Batman het pairings, so thats why ship it, but in all honesty, Bruce Wayne would never allow himself to settle down...I just find it unrealistic, IMHO. Well in comicverse, Bruce and Selina couldn't get together now anyway...and who knows what happens to him #681...if he lives, he maybe the victim of some odd Grant Morrison torture, and lose his sex organs...WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING!

Good luck. I love the band, but the majority of the fandom is batshit insane, and monstrously cruel on top of that. I took all the coms off my flist with the exception of one of the fic coms, and now just do my fandom flailing with the people on my flist.

Unpopular opinion

(Anonymous) 2008-11-10 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
140.

First of all to anyone who responded to the secret with "But she looks really pretty." Way to miss the point. Her beauty should be as relevant as her weight.

In response to the secret though:

1. Meyer matters as an author because she wrote the books and injected them with her morals, ethics and beliefs. Which include a form of pedophilia.

2. Meyer's looks matter because the heroine of her book is described looking exactly as she does, down to the pale clear skin and the widow's peak. Canonically now, thanks to Midnight Sun.

3. Meyer's weight matter because for all the physical similarities between Bella and Meyer, Bella is skinny. Meyer herself couldn't bring her Mary Sue to share her weight. And yes, that opens a fucking relevant box literary discussion.

Fuck, it's even relevant in the big scheme of things. Here's the author and she's God and she could make her sparkly vampire fall in love with an overweight Mary Sue. But instead she uses her omnipotence as the author to make her skinny instead.

How sad is that women are even dieting in their dreams?

Maybe someone should ask the secretmaker of secret 144.

And no, calling her a fat cow is never cool.

I coulda sworn she put on the weight relatively recently, well after she wrote the first couple of books?

Re: Unpopular opinion

[identity profile] elmathelas.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm SMeyer-shaped (I'm guessing, I mean, I don't know what she looks like right this minute) and I have had the exact same thought as #3, but never shared it. And it's not just that she made Bella not fat, she made her very very skinny. Bella's internal thoughts reveal that she's about 110 lbs, but of "normal" height for a girl of her age, which would make her on the very low end of normal for weight-to-height. I thought it was odd, for her to spell out the weight so clearly, and also if Bella thinks of herself as being so very ordinary, why is she super skinny? Edward's strong as hell, he could lift her no matter what. And if she's so self-aware, why wouldn't she realize how skinny she is? Bella states that she's slender but soft, but there's not a lot of room for softness at that weight. Kind of like KStew, at present. Bella's got insecurities about her looks, but it's VERY NOTABLE for a teenaged girl that her insecurities do NOT include her weight or even the shape of her body, more the color of her skin and her clothes. And I'd give KStew the benefit of the doubt (for as much as I care, which, luckily for me is not much) that she's just a natural ectomorph, but compared to her pic in 115 she does look exceptionally thin.

126: Who doesn't ship when they use that textbook? My class came up with a lot of really screwed up shipping for it. (Like Robert being Bisexual with Sue and Ken, but likes to keep things open, Michiko and John, Mary and Takeshi, wait, that last one's canon.)

116: I firmly believe that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are some of the most brilliant men on TV, bar none. Comedy Central is so full of fail now that it doesn't even deserve to have their shows. Where's my 24/7 Stewart & Colbert channel? D:

130: YES, FELLOW STEIN FAN. <3 Yeah, the way things are going with Medusa's crazy antics and all... it's not looking too good. ;_; But I have hope! It's almost surprising that for what's supposed to be a generic shounen, Soul Eater has pretty memorable characters. The show is basically my new passion. Aaaand Stein is incredibly sexy when he's being creepy, like in the intro. Where are you at, fandom?!

(Anonymous) 2008-11-10 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know. I'm so worried. And I'm worried he'll be the One Who Dies that every action show seems to have. ;_; It's such a sad thought and I think I'll probably cry if it happens.

Seconded on the rest, too! It's my new passion as well, and it indeed has awesome characters. I don't think it's a generic shounen, really, though. I think it's one of those really uncommonly well-crafted ones, I'd class it with Fullmetal Alchemist more than I would with Naruto and the rest. And creepy!Stein is awesome. His whole character design is awesome, actually. I've got a soft spot for those scientist types who look sort of chronically exhausted. (And stitches are always nice.)

If Stein was being honest about his desires when fighting Medusa, then I can't see him finding happiness. Or at least not in a world where Shinigami actually wins this dirty little war.

If not, if Franken can actually find happiness through something that doesn't involve destruction, then good luck to him. He has his friends, and observation and experimentation aside, he does seem genuinely concerned about the kids. Not bad...for a "hedonistic sadist". Rather tragic character, but I don't think he's quite doomed yet. Or at least I hope not *likes Stein.*

First of all, I love the combination of your first line with the icon. Too intense! XD

And I think we're on the same page here. I've always thought that he's a better person than he gives himself credit for. Sure, he's kind of damaged and has a history of... Getting carried away with things, but he seems essentially decent underneath it all, just possibly a bit nuts, and its not like that's any better for him than it is for the people around him. I'm holding out hope, too, but he is very tragic, and that's a lot of the appeal. And why it would be sad if something bad happened to him in the end.

You may be sick of hearing it, but she gets mocked because she wrote shitty prose and has tons of her personal ethics that fill the pages; ethics that aren't supported by a LOT of people. Once readers have bitched enough about the books, they move onto the author. They look into the author, and find out how whacked out she is, and then move onto personal attacks. I don't find it very strange.
