I absolutely love Welcome to the NHK and I'm thrilled that Funimation's saving it from near-death.

My college anime club didn't care for it either, but in that case we simply decided not to continue watching it in club due to lack of overall interest. I don't think anyone outright HATED it.

If your anime club based their opinion on the NHK anime solely on the animation quality, then I can kind of understand, but if it was for anything else, then WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOUR ANIME CLUB? I never took the time to watch the anime, but I just about read the whole manga, and it was one of the most emotionally jarring things I've ever read when it comes to animanga. I can't remember how many times I cried over the characters and their situations.

Turns out that Watanuki took R!Syaoran's place when R!Syao made the wish to turn back time. So essentially Watanuki is sort of his replica. Add to the fact that if R!Syaoran does succeed in restoring time, Watanuki will disappear.
