101. I hate it when people say things like this, it makes me go >: It's like the people who have free time but they don't want to read any books anymore because it takes too long, it's a waste of time, there's just no point. I... ouch. If it's something you enjoy, why is liking something and/or having fun for a little while a waste of time? D: It's not, it's not! Spend some time on just doing the things you really like doing, too. You'll regret it if you don't.

So... if you like your shows, set aside some time (maybe while doing other things -- eating or working on something that doesn't require 100% concentration?) to let yourself have fun, too. You'll be glad you did, I'm sure. ♥

104. Not all people are exactly alike. Some things don't last, and some things do -- that would be like someone saying "my boyfriend cheated on me, and now I believe all men are cheating scum." It doesn't work to jump from one to the other... so just keep believing. Love and devotion exists if both parties try; it sounds like your love just wasn't the right person for it.

107. Once you learn that Japanese vowels only have one pronunciation -- a is ah, e is eh, i is ee, o is oh, u is oo, and y is also ee -- figuring out how to pronounce words gets a lot easier. That, and usually words with two syllables have the stress on the first syllable (boku is BO-ku, tori is TO-ri), words with three syllables have stress on the second syllable (anata is a-NA-ta, kiseki is ki-SE-ki), words with four syllables have stress on the third syllable (sayonara is sa-yo-NA-ra, kakurenbo is ka-ku-REN-bo)... I'm sure there are exceptions to that one, but as a hard and fast rule, it works.

So... that would make those seh-meh, oo-keh (or oo-kay, or I've heard yoo-kay as well), and yah-oh-ee (with stress on the second syllable so that the latter two run together, I think -- so it's more "yah-OI" than "yah-oh-EE" or "yow-ee").

/RANDOM TL;DR JAPANESE PRONUNCIATION LESSON |D;;

112. ... ... This.

114. Oh geez why would you hate het? Or do you at least mean that you hate het as it is often portrayed in actual series, where most of the males and females are put into neat little boxes in their relationships...? Because otherwise, shoot, why?

118. Shit, you are not alone. That character -- design, voice, etc -- is just extremely gorgeous and agh. So much love for him, and I don't know exactly why.

120. Reanimator slash is actually a pretty big thing. I can totally see where it's coming from, too. Besides, think of it this way: no one in an H.P. Lovecraft story is gonna go the more normal route. No one. If it's canon that a guy can be attracted to a girl who's actually an unspeakable creature from depths, or a woman can mate with an Elder God, then goddammit, we should be able to write something as normal as homosexuality without any problem. B|

124. I do not understand the point of this secret, though I still love the cap used. What happened?

125. ... Oh god I need to catch up. In the meantime, someone fill me in? D8 ♥

128. I don't think so. Look at Master Chief -- and, to a lesser extent, Snake. Samus is old school and awesome, and at the time, the revelation that she was female is amazing. But she's still a pretty damn kickass female.

133. I am officially unsettled and creeped out.

134. I don't really see anything wrong with that art, myself. :/ Then again, I'd probably love the entirety of that series, including the Whedon-and-Ramos arc, so my taste can be safely derided by fandom? Idk.

136. Awwww. Suck. ): WELL YOU HAVE GOOD MEMORIES. AND HAD FUN WHILE IT LASTED. Silph will always be remembered. :|b

137. It's probably already been asked/answered somewhere already, but. What show is this? :O

138. YES. YES. YESSSSS. Oh my god Space Cases love. I just recently rediscovered that show and I totally remember it now and love it so much. Jewel Staite = Catalina, and awesome, but she is also an amazing Kaylee, and if sci-fi or adventure interests you at all, I'd recommend checking out an episode or two just to see if you'd like it. She's amazing and adorable. ♥

Basically, "Syaoran" is the son of Syaoran Li and Sakura Kinomoto. One ~*~fateful day~*~ or whatever, Papa!Syao was all "Here, take my sword and my name. Your mother had a dream that someone is waiting for you LOLOL YOU'RE TOTALLY SCREWED NOW, SONNY". Syaoran Junior then went to Yuuko's shop, in a parallel of when Watanuki entered Yuuko's shop back in chapter one of xxxHolic. Junior was sent to Clow Country, met with Princess Sakura, was like "dude, wait, you look like my mom!", then other stuff happened that would take way too long to explain.

Anyway, Watanuki is the placeholder for "Syaoran", since, when he decided to stay in Clow Country, the void left by him back in his world had to be filled.

140. Thing is, songfics where they actually stick lyrics of songs in between every paragraph (or few paragraphs) is jarring and knocks a lot of people out of the story, so yeah, they get annoyed. And songfics where lyrics are actually included in the prose/dialogue... hasjgakjgf just no please. I've seen a few cases where a short bit of the lyrics are included at the very beginning of the fic, and maybe in the middle/at some turning point inside, and again (or the whole song) put at the very very end. Done right, that can actually be pretty cool. It's pretty much the only type of songfic that doesn't make me wince. ;;

143. This secret is awesome and sweet. Keep it up, keep trying -- you'll get there someday. *hugs*

144. A lot of people have trouble discounting something as canon once it's made canon, even if they strongly believe it was just the result of bad writing. Maybe that's not the case here 100%, but I'm sure it has a lot to do with it. Also, just general disappointment in plot points that could have been handled amazingly being done poorly -- it's a little like a wasted opportunity for awesome, and that always sucks.

146. If F!S made you hate an actor, you're sorta doing it wrong. Sorry you lost all potential enjoyment in a movie and an actor you may have liked if you gave either of them a chance and formed your own opinions on them.

148. Hahaha, it really is, but I approve. As long as it's not the only thing that can get you anymore, keep the love! >_>

151. How the hell are you too old even if you're fifty? Is there a cutoff age on what shows you can like and what pairings you can enjoy, now?

152. ... holy what the fuck. Are you serious? o______o FAIL (not you, OP) D8

154. I think a lot of the time, the two are lumped together because they seem to be good friends, find each other funny, and appear on each other's shows/reference each other's shows a LOT. If you haven't seen the shows where they interact, you should -- they play off each other wonderfully.

157. I think it depends. What do you consider swearing, and what do you consider children? I think it's crappy for someone to go around cursing in front of five year olds, and it's a bad idea to be throwing around "FUCK" if you're around like... twelve year olds or something. But yeah, people can go overboard with this.

160. Wow, your friends fail. Crackships are for anything, and you shouldn't feel bad for shipping something because it's not slash. What the hell. :/

161. Spell check doesn't catch everything. If someone has a few typos/grammar fails, it's obviously just a case of them missing it in proofreading.

Also, I'm sorry, but am I the only person who thinks it's kind of shitty to discount someone as an idiot and refuse to read their fic just because of technical errors? No matter how awesome the plot is or how good the characterization, if they have technical errors you go "LOL OKAY YOU'RE JUST STUPID, NOT WORTH READING"? Some people really do have problems with that, and it really seems low to me.

165. I'll have to check that out. *A* It sounds/looks really good. Have you tried Calling You? (The book or the manga, but I was thinking the manga; I haven't been able to get my hands on the book, so I can't vouch for it.) It's really, really good, highly sad and moving, you might like it.

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
167. Uhhh. If your problem isn't because he's black, but because you don't think that specific actor is right for the part, no matter what anyone else tosses at you, you're not racist. I'd be thrilled with a female doctor, but I don't especially want Uma Thurman playing her; this does not make me sexist. So yeah.

(That said, I'd love Paterson Joseph as the Doctor, if only because I am a dork and would never be able to disassociate him with de Carabas and that is an awesome thing to me. Also, I'd love to see him get to play a part that would give him the opportunity to stretch out his acting muscles. If they do choose him, I'm sure it's because he'll do a great job, and I hope even the people who don't like the idea of him at least give him a chance. He might surprise you. ♥)

171. What the fuck, that's ridiculous. Writing a relationship with somebody between fictional characters =/= CHEATING ON YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER. Holy shit, what is up with some people?

172. I'm sympathetic to you, but that's a really, really bad tl;dr. So uh. Not even touching this.

repeat #1: I'm sorry that you have such a short attention span.

repeat #2: I can get behind this. It's crap because Meyer obviously adulates her own writing and characters and thinks everything they do is amazing and prefer and True Love, so that really does color all of the unhealthy shit in the books. But taken apart from that, Bella is... just a character, and seems to be a sympathetic one. Edward, too. They're people, and that means they can make really bad, stupid, or fucked up decisions. So... meh, I can see both sides of this one.

repeat #3: I STILL AwTS. That just needed to be said. Again. ):

112 - Awww, Randal makes me happy. Steve Buscemi in general makes me happy, haha.

123 - Similarly, I can't look at an Obama bumper sticker without thinking of Stan's dad screaming "OBAMA!! YEAH!!!!" I voted for the guy so it makes me feel bad, haha.

149 - I have no idea who you are, but congrats on having the balls to make this statement. ILU, srsly. Apparently I'm a misogynist because I don't like a female character, le gasp! What the fuck was I thinking! The character has a vagina, that must mean they're fucking amazing somehow!

So the discovery that Jun is now in the animu has prompted me to pick up Pokemon again after... IDEFK. I stopped watching in Jhoto. And start from the beginning and rewatch the whole thing up until now.

But I'm wondering, while I still plan to do that, if I skipped ahead to Jun's appearance, would I be terribly confused? Because I'm behind like 500+ episodes and I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG. >:

Also, adding to the chorus of SOURCES PLZ for that delicious fanart.

142. Oh me too! That man is made of pure win. In fact, I first heard of F!S when someone tipped him off that there was a secret about him. Can't remember when this was, last spring maybe? It was a straight guy saying how much he loves him? Anyways... yeah.

172. Ugh, my brother self-diagnosed himself, and the crazy thing is, he has no problem whatsoever with being polite and self-controlled around, well, everyone else outside his family. It's not like I can't see why he'd have it, but he does use that as an excuse sometimes for being a jerk and throwing tantrums. He's in his late 20s.

128. Who else would destroy entire planets and exterminate entire species for her goal? :-) I've yet to meet a male main character who's quite so hardcore, yet also so soft-spoken and effective. ... Then again, I've been a Samus fanboy since her first appearance in '87, so don't mind me.

130. Mighty Max! I still have a couple of mine packed away. ;-)

153. I'm sad, but kind of agree. Now hopefully he won;t get type-cast as adorably awkward and shy, and can maybe do more edgy (read: sexy!) roles -- like his turn in Miss Pettigrew, which I'll freely admit had a lot to do with how he was somewhat prone to slamming small ladies down on top of pianos.

154. You know it's funny, but I'm kind of the opposite. Not that I don't think Colbert is funny--because I do. It's just that I can only handle him in small doses, while I can marathon the Daily Show like a mofo.

161. Please don't lump spelling errors in with grammatical errors. Because there really is no excuse for spelling something incorrectly in the days of online dictionaries and Spell Check. But grammar is another story entirely. Even published authors sometimes make grammatical errors, and many fanfic authors, especially younger ones, honestly don't know any better. When I was fourteen, I had not yet been taught the correct punctuation or formatting for dialogue. I didn't realize that I was Doing It Wrong until one of my reviewers politely informed me that I was. Grammar takes time and effort to master, and even Wikipedia can only help so much. If someone is unaware of all the rules, they will miss certain errors even if they do proofread. That's why beta's exist; but some fanfic writers don't know about betas, either.

tl;dr Why not tell them what they're doing wrong, instead of being a snob?

Dude, Sephiroth is a complex and even somewhat sympathetic character, but I don't think anyone should want to be interesting in the way that he is. That would entail being homocidally INSANE to a degree nearly unmeasureable and certainly untreatable by modern psychologists.

Jesus, that is a bad idea that could only be beaten out by saying you want to be as interesting as KEFKA. D=

Re: 108

Who doesn't want to be as interesting as Kefka though, at least superficially? KEep the zingers and the clown suit and maybe ditch the megalomania and genocidal tendencies.
