YESSS SOMEONE ELSE REMEMBERS HER

I had the biggest crush on her in 2nd grade.

I am ashamed to admit that in the theatre, my only thought during the flashbacks was "This is kind of REALLY hot."

Edward more than Esme.

104. ... It's really, really hard not to say "Well, duh." They're... they're not canon. I mean... Why do people always pick the non-canon couples for their sappy X-to-my-Y, taught me to believe in love secrests?

108. Generally speaking, sanity and stability > interesting.

115. NOTHING? Come on, really? What about the minestrone soup? That's pretty normal. What about the thanksgiving challenge, would you have eaten any of that? There has to be SOMETHING!

128. No one derides male characters for being a generic badass, last time I checked.

I also hate people who say stupid stuff like this - "Oh, well nobody would like that character if she was a girl from a different era!"

YOU MEAN CONTEXT MATTERS TO PEOPLE?! HOLY SHIT!

134. I like that art, what's wrong with it?

149. Have you considered that maybe you have shitty, sexist reasons for hating the female characters you do hate?

154. It's okay. I think Colbert is an overblown hack who is rarely funny and that Jon is actually funny and intelligent, so I feel you on not wanting them lumped together.

161. If you bitch so much about fanfic that you cannot tolerate a simple spelling error, and it gets to the point where you have to make a fandom secret or post to a snark community because OMG YOU FOUND SPELLING MISTAKES IN HOBBY WRITING, I assume you're too boring to have anything better to do with your time.

Is it that hard to let tiny little shit like this go?

166. Fucking agreed.

172. I think that's sort of hilarious, and I sympathize.

151. While I can't relate to the fandom, I don't see anything wrong with still liking such things. At 28, I still adore many of the things I enjoyed in my youth.

157. TINY TOONS! I'm pretty sure I know the episode you're talking about, because I watched the show all the time back when it was still on and stuff like that tends to stick with me, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called or what actually happened anymore. Gah, I need to get the DVD sets...

169. OH DEAR GODS I WISH I COULD UNSEE THAT.

172. Those people ARE faking it and probably don't even know what the hell it actually is, because people like me who actually DO have Asperger's Syndrome wouldn't act like such jackasses. We'd be so quiet and shy and not even say much of anything for fear of saying/doing something stupid...provided we'd even want to be in such a large gathering of people like a convention in the first place.

128. Um, way to miss the point. When Samus was originally revealed as a woman (her "secret" wasn't told in the first game), there was nobody like her in games. AT ALL. She was an entirely new, and unique character. So, while her character type may be generic nowadays, you're forgetting that she was and is the original. Everyone else AFTER could be considered generic.

134. Ramos has improved his artstyle A LOT from when he first began (Oh, Rob Lefield, why can't you follow suit?). I actually kinda enjoy it now.

138. Space Cases secret! Awesome! Awe, I was so sad when Catalina left.

157. OMG, I don't remember the name of the episode, but I do remember the episode in of itself! It was the one with Fowlmouth and all the bleeps in it. Oh, my childhood...

You had to get one of the two or three 'good' endings to see her identity in the original Metroid. :-)

Agreed.

Though I think it's important to keep in mind that they may actually have it, but may not realize that it comes off as trying to make a shitty excuse.

I should know - I actually HAVE it (professionaly diagnosed, FYI), and I used to explain it by just saying I have it. People thought I was full of crap.

[identity profile] hyper-piggie.livejournal.com 2008-12-08 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
130 - Toy luv! My brother had Mighty Max, and I had Polly Pockets, but he wouldn't let me play with his. :(

138 - I was sad when Catalina left the show. I wanted her sonic scream powers.

157 - Foulmouth wanted a date with Shirly the Loon, but couldn't get it because she didn't like his swearing. Foulmouth was voiced by Rob Paulson - one of my favorite voice actors. Sorry if that's been said, but I don't really wanna read through 4 pages of replies.

Ahahaha, I like how you think >:D

A friend of mine (quite rightly) pointed out that if my NaNo ever got published, possibly the greatest compliment comeone could give it would be to write a ship pairing you never even considered before. And make it work.

Personally, I think the biggest compliment would be for someone to make a fandomsecret of it.

....second biggest. The biggest would be for people to make fandomsecret trollings of it, then to watch an epic shitstorm come from it.

:D?

134. I didn't mind Joss' writing too much, but I did mind Ramos' donkey faces a lot. Every time one of the kids screamed, I kept hearing HEE HAW! in my head.

Though I haven't seen the donkey faces much lately, Ramos really has to do something about those damn Crocs.

144. Because we want to? Because we want epic canon lesbians? Who knows?

Re: 144

It's epically hypocritical to hate on the rest of Whedon's run and then choose just that part to take as canon because you want to uncomplicate Karolina's love life.

101. Not surprising, you get burned out. I used to be a big TV watcher, watch TV like 3-4 a day and can go days without watching TV at all. Now, I watch like 3 hours of anime a week if I'm in the mood. I guess because I rather read stuff.

108. D: But you have to be half-as batshit, y'know.

115. I would, dammit. I like trying new shit, even stuff with broccoli, which I despise with every cell of my being.

116. Fuck Bleach, I would like Tite draw me into a spread. Fuck yeah.

122. God, Zack and Cody is like one of the reasons why Disney is so shit right now. Ugh.

124. Picture related, amirite? That was beyond stupid what happened with Kannagi and the fans. You know that the mangaka got affected by all that stupid shit that she took a break.

130. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Polly Pocket. Oh how I loved you and raged when they change you to make you bigger. Oh god, I was so obsessed with her.

137. YES, I sorta remember So Weird and how much I loved Fi. I still pissed they replaced her and the show leaped bound over the shark then. Fuck, I still wish it was on. I vaguely remember the will-'o-wisp but fuck me, I would kill to see this again.

149. While, I agree that F!S overstretch misogyny sometimes, but it is telling if you hate female character SOLELY because of being female. But I understand the frustration that there isn't much well-written females in fiction though.

160. Your f-list is bonkers. Who in the hell thought that crack pairings are a slash-only thing? Hell, I have a good amount of het crackships myself.

161. This to some extent. I don't mind a spelling or grammar error here or there, but if I encounter enough, I just stop reading and wonder why the author get a beta. I automatically stop if the same character's name is spell wrong more than once. Can't stand that shit.

162. Then stop reading smut in class if you're that worried about it. I gotta say that you have balls doing that in class. Imagine if you got caught by the teach/professor?

165. I need to read the rest of it, although the eating ashes thing kinda squick me.

167. ಠ_ಠ

169. ಥ_ಥ Why did you use that picture?

172. Wow, I would told them without being all polite about it (but not rude either, just neutral). I can't believe people actually use that Asperger's excuse outside the computer, damn.

N!S #1. Oh, what the shit?

149

(Anonymous) 2008-12-09 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think the OP was saying that (I assume) they hate a character solely because a female, but seriously, there are too many feminazis here. XP I think that's what they secret OP is complaining about more; that people can't wrap their minds around the fact that some female characters really are terrible, haha.

169 - LOL WTF?!!

157. I remember that! Fowlmouth wouldn't swear in front of children, so Buster kept showing him those kids so he could ask Shirley to the dance(?) without scaring her off. Which ended in failure anyway, since she already agreed to go with Plucky.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-12-08 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
107) I always have to stop and think before pronouncing "uke". I grew up in Hawaii.

154) Different kinds of humor. Jon Stewart is a stand-up comedian, and basically his news show is a routine based on the daily news. He has a very dry sense of humor, pointing out absurdities and logical faults in the news. Stephen Colbert isn't doing stand-up, he's doing social satire. His "idiot" routine is actually only the most superficial component of his humor (it's the part that his republican guests always get tripped up by, because that's the only part they see), but that is just a cover for an incredibly brilliant satire of the whole right wing talk show phenomenon. The audience is supposed to connect the dots to get his real message.

155) This is why I don't follow the fandoms of most of the shows I like.

169) Well hello tentacles.

172) As a parent to a kid with Aspergers who has quite a few relatives on the spectrum, it annoys the ever loving fuck out of me that people use it like a crutch to act like jerk. Aspergers is not an excuse to act like an asshole -- it's the disabled person's onus to learn the rules to live in society.

That said, I think an inordinate number of people on the spectrum do gravitate to fandom because it tends to be very forgiving of quirky behavior and actually encourages them to indulge in their natural obsessiveness. It's a place where they can feel comfortable, meet people, and be accepted even if they can't indulge in small talk, and have absurdly narrow interests. Honestly, there really aren't many other venues for Aspie people to socialize.

[identity profile] cybra2003.livejournal.com 2008-12-08 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
172 - Word. Don't know anyone with aspergers, but I hate how people use it as an excuse. It ranks right up there with people who claim that their writing's crap because they have dyslexia. I've read good fics written by dyslexics before because they put care into their works. [/endrant]
