...and I judge most Hetalia haters as people who have sticks up their asses, so I guess we're even~

The Nanking Massacre, commonly known as the Rape of Nanking, was an infamous war crime committed by the Japanese military in Nanjing (Nanking), then the capital of the Republic of China, after it fell to the Imperial Japanese Army on December 13, 1937. The duration of the massacre is not clearly defined, although the violence lasted at least until early February 1938. Estimates of the death count vary, with most reliable sources holding that 200,000 to 300,000 Chinese civilians were massacred in this period.[1][2] Japanese officials lied about civilian death figures at the time, and some Japanese ultranationalists are still active in attempting to deny that the killings ever occurred.[2][3]

During the occupation of Nanking, the Japanese army committed numerous atrocities, such as rape, looting, arson and the execution of prisoners of war and civilians. The executions began under the pretext of eliminating Chinese soldiers disguised as civilians, and a large number of innocent men were intentionally misidentified as enemy combatants and executed as the massacre gathered momentum. A large number of women and children were also killed, as rape and murder became more widespread.[4]

While the Japanese government has acknowledged the massacre did occur,[5] some Japanese nationalists have argued that the death toll was military in nature and that no such civilian atrocities ever occurred. Denial of the massacre, and a divergent array of revisionist accounts of the killings, has become a staple of Japanese nationalist discourse.[6] In Japan, public opinion of the massacres varies, and only a minority deny the atrocity.[6] Nonetheless, revisionist accounts have often created controversy that has reverberated in the media, particularly in China.[3][6] The 1937 massacre and the extent of its coverage in Japanese school textbooks continues to trouble Sino-Japanese relations.

Um, excuse me, but that's the what of copypasting that? I'm pretty sure every one know the Rape of Nanking is.

My own amusement, mostly. I have nothing against the series itself, but come on, it takes far less than a stick up your ass to disagree with porn related to that.

yeah, and guess what? It happened. It's over. We can't go back and decide it never happened. We can't make it not happen. We can't erase it. History is history, and I'm sorry, but once something is over and done with, I find it perfectly acceptable to joke about, so long as it doesn't get completely disrepectful. Hetalia is not disrespectful to events, since it personifies each country as neither evil nor angelic. Which is the way it should be. For example, Germany in APH is not Hitler, he's Germany. And saying that Germany in APH should not be glorified because of what Hitler did is like saying that we should percieve the entire country of Germany as a wicked, evil place with a population of demons straight from Hell because of Hitler; ie, ridiculous.

And, sorry, but I fail to see how the fact that the Rape of Nanking happened connects to Hetalia in any way. Hetalia is a representation of countries as a whole. Do you hate Japan because of the Rape of Nanking? If so, then fine, rant to me about this and such. But if not, you're a hypocrite &hearts:~

lol I thought that other people had covered the concept of "a couple stupid requests on the kink meme is not representative of the entire fandom" and didn't want to beat a dead horse, but I guess I should've beat said dead horse? Sorry for not being thorough with my rant, but my position still stands. So ONE Hetalia fan requested something fucked up in the kink meme. I suppose that means we're all awful people with no respect, right? No.

It seems what we have here is a failure to communicate. You posted "Stick up your asses" in response to someone saying "rape of nanking porn is kind of fucked up what the hell internet." Ergo, I assumed you were defending said request.

...no, that's *not* what the secret is. The text is "I secretly judge Hetalia fans". Yes, there is a screencap of a dumbass request. However, The secret does NOT single out that request and the like. It uses it as an example and then broadens the statement to "all Hetalia fans are like this". My point was that the request does not relate to the actual series, is a confined case, and is an absurd reason to hate us.

the rape of nanking fic wasn't just requested

it was filled

and it had a lot of glowing praise

I haven't read it, but the fic itself is apparently not pornish and actually gives the issue a grim and tasteful treatment. Still don't think they should have posted it in response to a kink meme request, and God knows what the requester was thinking.

You're really not helping our case at all.
The secret had screenshots of kink meme requests, including a rapefic based on the Rape of Nanking. So... that's what it has to do with this fandom.

Yeeeaaaah...I'll admit I didn't catch the Rape of Nanking request the first time around. I did get the gist of the secret with the screencaps. I just happened to miss one. So I guess that makes me an idiot =/.

Not saying you're an idiot, just maybe you should read stuff a little more carefully before jumping on people like that.
Also, I think it's a good idea to treat people outside the fandom with the same respect and politeness you would treat people in the fandom, even if they are bashing. You come off as rather hostile in these comments, and it only reinforces negative stereotypes about the fandom. If you stay level-headed and explain why you disagree in a calm, mature way, it shows that those stereotypes aren't true.
Sorry for the TL;DR, and I don't mean to come off as patronizing or anything, but this fandom is so nice and friendly that I hate to see it misrepresented.

You're an ass and are purposely missing the point. It is disrespectful to take something like that and then ask someone to write a fic about it with personified countries. Maybe you should have tried reading the full secret.

Oh look, a rude idiot! If I'm purposefully missing the point, then I obviously DID read the full secret. Way to contradict yourself.

And as I've stated about a thousand times, I agree that those secrets are warped, and I missed the ONE screencap that related to the Rape of Nanking, as it was in the corner and I don't scrutinize every single secret for 5 minutes since there are so many.

People can like or dislike whatever they want. If people think that the series trivializes history and aren't into things like that, then let them be. This doesn't mean they have a 'stick in their ass'. :| Are you so blinded by the ~sparkly kawaii bishonen~ that you lost your ability to let people express their own opinions on the series without being insulting and childish?

And you're completely generalizing. I personally could care less about "sparkly kawaii bishonen". I highly doubt if much of the rest of the fandom really does either. That's more something that anti-Hetalia people came up with to bash it for. (And I'm not saying no one in the fandom is like that. I'm just saying I've yet to run across any, and so assuming I'm like that is just fucking ridiculous).

I say they have a stick up their ass because the only reason I can see to actively HATE the series or fandom is if you're one of those "History is SERIOUS! How dare you mock ANYTHING in history ever, no matter how ridiculous it was?!" type people.

I'm also a fan of Hetalia, and I see your points, but really, I think you should just stop. And maybe consider retracting some of the things you've said earlier instead. The secret has a point, even if it's not a particularly well-made point: those requests make the fandom look really bad. Everyone else is just trying to marginalize the damage by pointing out that the kink meme does not reflect upon the fandom as a whole, or even a majority, and it does not reflect upon the series at all because APH itself contains none of that. Attacking people outside is fandom is seriously unhelpful right now.

True enough points. I just get very, VERY tired of all the Hetalia hate, which almost all stems from "HISTORY IS SRS BZNESS!" ideals. And really, IMO, I don't see why people in the fandom need to care what that type of person thinks about us. Which is why I made the comment.

History isn't srsbzns, I agree. But people should probably at least understand the atrocities if they want the right to inoffensively retell them with black humour and not come off like a douchebag. It's like jokes about racial stereotypes: if a comedian actually knows what they're talking about re:various ethnic groups and uses that knowledge to lampoon ridiculous assumptions, it's funny. If it's just underscoring the stereotypes themselves, it's unoriginal and often offensive. The really glib way a lot of those requests are phrased gives off the impression that the requesters are pulling random historical conflicts they've heard of in passing and asking for that to be dramatised as porn. And the way you replied to the first response with "it's happened, it's over" and then justifying that with "I didn't see the screenshot" also kind of gives off the idea that you might not have thought about these events all that much either, which is probably why people are responding so hostilely.

But the thing is, those kink requests are fucked up. Yes, they are not at all a good representation of the fandom as a whole , BUT just responding with 'STICK UP UR ASS!!1' makes it look like you're saying that's perfectly okay and people shouldn't be offended.
