What are things a lot of people seem to find hot (in fiction) that just don’t do it for you?

Humiliation apparently. That is my ultimate squick in fanfic.

My current fandom is obsessed with humiliation, even though it doesn't match the canon characterisation at all >.

Not squicked but just not interested:

Self-cest - with clones or alt-universe copies or whatever
Autofellatio

Squicks:

99% of noncon
“Dark” characterizations of good guy characters
Degradation
Group sex

I completely agree with the "dark" characterization of good guy characters. It genuinely makes me mad sometimes depending on the character.

Kissing, both in fiction and outside of it. I hate kissing people and I hate watching people kiss. Also can't stand when characters pat one another on the head. It's usually done by a boy to a girl and is super common in anime - drives me up the wall.

It's funny how soft fluffy gestures like that turn me off far quicker than any hardcore fetish material.

Kissing's so gross.

I hate watching people kiss in real life. In film it can be hot. But in real life, yeah, PDA on the train makes me want to lose my shit.

I like kissing fine in fanfic, but I do think it's hard to write in a way I'll find hot. There has to be an urgency to it, otherwise I'm just bored. Descriptions of the characters snogging for ages "like teenagers" are so off-putting to me.

hate it irl, it's just so slobbery and gross.

but i like it in fiction oddly. granted there are ways to film it where it just looks... bad, like a dude swallowing some poor girls face, and it can be written in clunky ways too. but for the most part i think i like the ~fantasy of it, but hate it irl because it's never that nice for me.

Agreed, kissing is the absolute worst. Always skim over it.

I don't mind kissing but I hate that patting on the head thing in fiction or in real life. Patting on the head is what you do to dogs, not people!

Dirty talk. I don't like smut much at all, but I HATE sex talk. It's always cringy, OOC, and awkward, 99% of the time.

one half of a pair being written as a blushing baby that needs to be coaxed through sex like they've gotten to adult-hood without knowing what genitalia is or what sex is in general. i enjoy first-times and one, or both, halves being inexperienced, but i hate how most fandoms go about writing it tbh. it's like fandom doesn't know a middle-ground between 'blushing virgin' and 'horny slut' exists(actually this goes for published lit too, i'm not safe from it there either, lol).

D/s that involves any kind of degradation or humiliation towards the sub like... it's an instant no for me. i just don't like it.

dirty talk in general just... doesn't ever work for me. i either find it unintentionally funny or so cringey it sucks all the sex-appeal out of the story for me.

Degrading dirty talk. I want joyful, playful sex talk.

Healthy sexuality turns me right off in fic.

I need there to be some element of wrongness in order to find smut hot.

A/B/O. Daddy kink. Anything involving asses. Anal sex is bad, rimming is worse.

Love triangles between one insipid girl and two unimpressive boys. Alpha male type heroes (this is more in romance novels) who are controlling and jealous and that's "hot" because they luuuuuuuuuuuuuuv the heroine so much, you see.

The sexually aggressive alpha male dom guy and naive virginal selfless doormat woman that appear in so many mainstream romantic and erotic stories.

Balls. Stop describing balls to me. I don't want to think about balls.

The weird lady cum scenario where the woman is described as gushing when orgasming in fiction. It's porny and not how our anatomy works. I expect some people will argue it's a subtle reference to squirting, which again... is mostly a porn thing.

Most of the "scene" Dom/sub stuff, honestly. Collars. Kneeling. The 'good boy,' 'pretty boy,' infantilizing stuff. It's not a hard squick, and I can ignore it if the rest of the dynamic is doing it for me, but it's all just kind of ugh.

Meh:
D/s is just not my thing. I don't understand that mindset so I don't find it particularly hot.
Extensive consent discussions. For some people, it adds to the hotness, I just find it mildly annoying because come on, it's fiction.
Daddy kink.

Squicks:
Humiliation. Anything with "biological" D/s roles like omegaverse. Impregnation, especially m-preg. "Cuntboys", transmen and generally vaginas and biologically female anatomy in gay porn/smut. Blood. Genderbending/sexswap.

I feel a bit uncomfortable that we've moved on from "are you down with shaving?" to "are you down with choking?"

Daddy kink and teacher/student... which is a great thing to dislike when you yourself are into middle-aged men/age gap couples. It's practically ubiquitous.

Hypermasculine alpha males and their violent handling of partners who are written to be more feminine. Doesn't matter whether M/M or M/F, it will turn me off every time.

If I get so much as a whiff of hatefucking or otherwise Enemies to Lovers dynamic, I hit "Back."
